The oracle said LONG ago that Belkar would be dying permanently by the end of the year. That may have been 10+ years ago in real time, but in OOTS time, it's only been a few months, so they're still in the same year.

IIRC it was worded as "drawing his last breath." Not as "dying" ;-)

I now yearn to live an Isekai in the OotS world and come back to RL centuries later.

OK, "post-knell clarity" was worth a laugh.

I also kind of like the college dorm vibe (I think) Sabine has going on.

Grand Lodge

Well, she did have the co-ed outfit that one time.

This and Roy/Durkon's time in the afterlife suggests that just because Belkar will be moving on, we will still see some story involving him.

I thought Belkar would survive this...but *shrugs*

Almost makes one forget that he is a murderous psycho.

Grand Lodge

Yeah, this isn't him being redeemed, this is him recognizing how he screwed himself out of what he wanted. His selfishness is just spinning out how he could have used Elan to beat their father.

I love the unexpectedness of this scene change. I thought we'd never see Nale again.

I remain unconvinced he's not changed. But then again I always felt Nale could be redeemed. Kind of.

It would be interesting to see him get resurrected somehow and find out how much the "post-knell clarity" actually changes him once alive again.

I'm also kind of surprised that she really does seem to care about him - even once he's dead and damned.

To quote Elan, IIRC: "Dun-dun-DUN!"

I love these guys. Also Supervisor jump scare +20 for intimidate! :D

This got chewed over here a few years ago, but are the Directors' colors related to divine quiddities (since demon lords/archdevils/whatever the D&D Horsemen equivalent is are demigod-equivalent)?

I remember that their names are related to their alignments, but I don't remember anything about their colors being related to their names, alignments, or particular brand of evil outsider.

Lee - Lawful Evil, Devil, yellow
Nero - Neutral Evil, Yugoloth (aka Daemon), purple
Cedrik - Chaotic Evil, Demon, orange

And speaking of colors, Nero's and Cedrik's speech bubble colors are switched in the final panel.

Sensitive Discussion

The evilness continues and Nale is still not doing the best at reading the room.

Some nice irony in the last panel.

"I appreciate you not fully shattering my window."

"What can I say? I pride myself on my restraint."

"Some negotiations do call for more of a soft touch."

I love these guys. Lee, Nero, and Cedrik are just plain AWESOME. :) They honestly need their own series.

Liberty's Edge

I like Nale having enough guts to tell them to get stuffed.

Me too! I like it for two reasons. One, it shows his rejection for any authority except his own; and two, it shows that he still makes bad decisions.

I love defiance in front of overwhelming odds. Even in evil characters.

It's my inner Gorumite showing.

Many deities, depending on the individual Gorumite's preference.

And in the Core 20, Arazni.

No wonder I don't know this. I find myself drifting away from Pathfinder's official lore.

Well, now that the setting has been detailed in so many books, they are going full throttle on its renewal, especially in the Inner Sea Region, but not only, through War of Immortals and the coming Hellfire Crisis event, which will deal with the Cheliax-Andoran open war.

So, yes, that makes lots of changes in little time.

1319: Deep Seated Feelings

Never let it be said that the Directors lack insight into the sapient mind.

Asmodeus: "'Scuse me, gotta steal this-" *yoink*

Seriously, this thing is so utterly brilliant that it demands justification for how nobody's caught on the con. I suspect the devils "leak" ways to sabotage it, or pay to "delay" it in the form of memories that might hint as to its actual purpose.

Yes, it looks like the Directors are being a bit... short-sighted in their desire for vengeance.

They should probably (re-)read the Evil Overlord List/Handbook/Instruction Manual.

Are you referring to the fact that they said the OotS planet is only the second planet the gods created? I wonder where they learned even that.

That does explain why they prevented Vaarsuvius from stopping Roy from destroying Girard's gate, though.

Ironically, they learned it from Sabine, who learned it from Nale, who learned it from Lord Shojo in Azure City while impersonating Elan.

Pages 378-380, if you want to look it up.

Silver Crusade

Honestly, I'm kinda disappointed that the directors are so out of the loop, and their plan is so mundane. Sure, destroying the world sounds sinister, but we already have the gods ready to do that before the Snarl gets loose if the last Gate falls.

This adds another side to the conflict, by getting Nale back into it (however they manage to send him back to the land of the living), but the reason behind it is pretty weak.

Oh dang, the OotS wiki says those comics were published in November 2006. over EIGHTEEN years ago! Jeez, this comic (and most of its readers, probably) are so old.

Anyway, I didn't remember that tidbit, so thanks.

Fromper wrote:

I can see your point, but it's also possible that they're not revealing their whole plan or at least their true motivations.

Also, I'm trying to decide if Nale will actually go through with it. And if he won't, would the Directors suspect that they won't?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Honestly, I feel like the Directors are holding back information, if only because they don't want Sabine and/or Nale to know.

But I mean I get the idea they want revenge.

They do not want only the world destroyed. They want the Snarl to ERASE all the souls.

Whereas the gods count on collecting their worshippers' souls by destroying the world beforehand.

1321 - Subject to Change

So, uh, yeah, those people who thought it was too petty are right - the IFCC is planning on metaphysical revenge.

Honestly, it's a really good thing what set them off was anger at the Evil Gods, because I can see several deities from Pathfinder alone who'd be into this. Urgathoa would probably be actively working on some of the designs, and she would not need to lie about her ideal Evil Paradise.

The don't worry, just chill. Afterlife looks nice.
