What are your Words of Power?

Round 2: Words of Power Discussion

Scarab Sages

Post your potential Words of Power here.

10th Level Sorcerer (Fey Bloodline):

Spell: Davor's Doom Missiles

*Note: I AM using Word Burning in the way I think most people WILL use it.

Word Burning: Using a 5th level spell slot for 16 points, and creating a 4th level spell (29 points total)

Words Used: Ice Blast (9), Mass Range (2), Lightning Blast (9), Fire Blast (8)

So, using a combined 4th and 5th level spell slot, my Sorcerer does 10d6 Cold damage, 10d6 Lightning damage, 10d6 Fire damage, and possible entanglement (though the fire damage would probably negate the entanglement as per the wording). 30d6 seems like quite a bit of damage, but I can also deal the damage to up to 10 enemies in medium range, within 30' of each other, and have no chance of hitting my allies. We're talking an average of 105 damage, 52 if they make the reflex save, which for a mass number of enemies, of about equal CR, isn't too bad. With a good roll, the fight would be over, but that's what I would expect a combined 4th+5th level spell to do.

Liberty's Edge

I haven't played any words yet, but I like how your math adds up, it makes sense and the word looks cool, but... what did you make the "visiual" effects of the spell in general look like? I'm curious.

Shadow Lodge

Hellfire Combustion

School Necromancy & Evocation [fire]; Level Sorcerer/Wizard 9
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S, M (drop of caster's blood and ash)
Range close (25 ft. + 5 ft./2 levels)
Effect ray
Duration instantaneous
Saving Throw Fortitude; Spell Resistance Yes
Words of Power Single, Horror, Cinder Storm; Cost 31

A hazy blackish-red ray springs from your pointed finger. You must make a successful ranged touch attack to hit. Any creature struck by this ray takes 10 points of damage per caster level plus 1d6 points of fire damage per caster level. A creature or object that makes a successful Fortitude save is partially affected, taking 3d6 damage +1 per level of the caster plus 1d6 points of fire damage per two caster levels. Only the first creature or object struck can be affected; that is, the ray affects only one target per casting.

Dark Archive

Flame Guardian's Eruption
School abjuration, conjuration (summoning), evocation [fire], transmutation; Level Sorcerer/Wizard 4 (Word Burning with a 5th level spell)
Casting Time 1 standard action
Components V, S, M (a small red stone)
Range 100 ft. +10 ft./level
Duration instantaneous/1 round per level
Saving Throw Reflex Half; Spell Resistance yes
Words of Power Medium Burst, Fire Blast, Servitor IV, Perfect Form, Force Block; Cost 29

Forming the words of power cause a fire red circle to appear slightly above the ground, it is only there for a brief moment as the words are spoken. The circle has a 20 ft. radius, and at the end of the casting erupts into a burst of fire, dealing 1d6 fire damage per caster level to all within it. Immediately after the burst, the fire and red circle condense back together without dissipating, forming a medium fire elemental. The elemental has the following bonuses; +4 enhancement bonus to Strength, Dexterity, and Constitution, and a +1 enhancement bonus to AC. The medium fire elemental remains for 1 round per level. The fire elemental must begin in an unoccupied square, and must be within the 20 ft. radius of the initial affect of this spell. The fire elemental functions as any other summoned creature for the duration of this spell.

Hmmmm... so far, I could see getting used to using this system, especially for NPC's! In fact, this system would suite one NPC I've been using already, and much better explain how he does what he does!
I definitely like this combination though! I basically do a fireball that results with buffed up medium fire elemental to help guard me! XD
SWEET FLAMMING GLORY!!!

Several problems with that spell:

You can't have more than four words. A servitor spell prohibits any effect words added from affecting anything but the summoned creature.

bah! >.>;

just make a feat for it?! LOL!

Figures I'd miss something! Yay sleep deprived! XD

and that's only two problems, because if you cut out the fire blast, and make it a medium range spell, instead of medium burst, it'd be solved, much cheaper, and far less cool... :( lol

So, if there was a feat that allowed a fifth word to be used in a wordcaster spell, that would solve one issue. And with a feat like Word Burning already on the playtest, I don't foresee such a suggested feat being an issue with the set up so far.

So, looking at some of the boost options for some of the words, perhaps the spell would need to be boosted for one or more of the words for such a combination?

Where does it say you can't have more than 4 words?
