Basically, I'm wondering if certain effect words will be treated as equivalent to their normal spell counterparts for the purposes for item crafting and recharging staves. It would be a major point against wordcasters if they needed to take the Versatile Wordcaster feat in order to use staves at all and avoid +5 penalties when crafting magical items.
For example, I would think Fire Blast would be equivalent to Fireball for the purposes of crafting a Helm of Brilliance. I would also think that having Fire Blast on your spell list would allow you to recharge a staff of fire as if you had Fireball.

I wondered about that too, if you can use the words to craft, it´s complicated since you can´t use spell trigger items, a wizard can´t create scrolls...
If you can´t use the words to craft magic items... well it´s a serious disadvantage.
Since it isn´t mentioned in the pdf that it doesn´t work I guess we will have to wait for an official clarification.

Re: Staves, I don´t see the big deal, I would presume a Word Caster would PREFER to have a Word Casting Stave. And if they have to take Versatile Caster Feat, I don´t see the big deal, Casters´ Feat choice is already pretty relaxed.
This does bring up something else: What about Spell Immunity? If somebody has Spell Immunity vs. X spell which you essentially replicate, what happens? If you EXACTLY replicate the effect? If you have the same but additional effects? If you have a sub-set of the effects?
Would there be a ¨Word Immunity¨ Word (and/or regular Spell) to block specific Words?

Well, I think 'normal' staves would be pretty useful for a Wordcaster because it would be a way for them to access some of the more complex spells that can't be duplicated via wordcasting (without using a wand).
For example, I know wordcasters don't have their full lists of illusion effects right now, but assuming their illusions are still somewhat limited in the end a Staff of Illusion would give them spells like Mirror Image, Rainbow Pattern, and Blink.
Hmmm, Spell Immunity...that's a good question about how that would work.
