Nevermind... found it.

PCGen

I've never really had a problem using this software, but for some reason I can't for the life of me figure out how to select a favored class. Can anyone enlighten me?

I assume you are talking about the Pathfinder RPG game mode. So, to select a favored class, go to the "Feats & Abilities" tab and select the "Racial Abilities" subtab. If your character has at least one class level added you should see an entry "Favored Class (0/1)" (probably) in the right hand pane. Click it, and the left hand pane will fill with the available selections. After you have selected a favored class in this way, a new item will appear on the right, named "Favored Class Bonuses (0/x)", if the character has at least one level in the class you selected previously. If you click that, the left pane will fill with the available options (might be a big list if you have the APG active, otherwise just two). You can then select from that list until you have made all the selections available to you.

Upcoming versions will not only tell you an the summary tab which of your character choices are still open on, but also where to find them.

Hope that helps,
Stefan.

Get Herolab. It cost money, but you dont have to be a junior programmer to use it. My only gripe with it is that it does not display all the math I want. Also it is very effective at running your character. Status effects and whatnot are one click away.

Scarab Sages

Since we're talking about PCGen, I have a question. I love the program, though I agree that the flexibility/power of PCGen comes with a price of complexity. It seems to me that this is necessary--just like more complex game rules can handle a greater variety of situations.

Anyway, my question is: Is there an easy way to add traits? Feats show up in the List Editors. I've manually modified the data files before to add traits, but that's just a hassle. And now that I have installed another new version of PCGen, I don't feel like doing it again. Am I missing something?

Also, does anyone have any alternate character sheets for the PFS rules that can be used with PCGen? Something a little more eye-pleasing, even? Believe me, I'm a function over form guy, but I can appreciate beauty. As long as someone else creates it.

Developers of PCGen--you rock! Thanks for all the work you put into this tool. It may not do everything I want just the way I want, but neither does a paper character sheet, and it's light-years more awesome than anything I could ever hope to make.

My only problem with the program (not the programmers behind it!) is that it is assumed I am a lieing piece of scum pirate, and it's not actually my software once I buy it. It has to call home and get permission for me to use it, and if I switch computers, or upgrade, it has to call home again and again. Which is fine so long as the company exists and is run by the current owners, but as soon as they go out of business or are bought by someone else, the program dies.

I still own software I bought in 1985, and it still installs and works (granted under dosbox, but it still works). I don't pirate, I don't steal. I've had it up to my eyeballs with being inconvenienced and being treated like a lieing piece of terrorst scum because of what OTHER people do. Software assumes I'm a pirate, I get x-rayed or groped at the airport because I'm obviously a terrorist. I go to court, I have to prove I'm innocent, the police don't have to prove I'm guilty (tickets). I've had it.

I'd rather deal with a GUI that works, but isn't super streamlined. At least I can reinstall (or even rewrite parts of it) 10 years from now if I want to.

Currently, the only way to add traits is to manually add files / edit current trait files. However, in Release 6.0, which will probably be July/August 2011, the LST Editor, and the UI will be completely redone. Details HERE.

As far as alternate character sheets, I have a definitely function over form sheet HERE. If you want a copy of the raw html so you can create it for your own characters, let me know by sending an email to

Spoiler:
papa_drb@yahoo.com
and I'll send you a copy.

Liberty's Edge

I know I'm reviving a dead thread here, but does anyone happen to have an idea on how to give an Eidolon to a PC, in PCGen of course. I looked at the Summoner's level progression and figured BONUS:VAR|EIDOLONLEVEL|CL and BONUS:VAR|MASTERLEVEL|CL would do it, but apparently I'm missing something. Essentially, I'm looking for a way to make a Grant Eidolon template to simply give a PC an Eidolon of an equivalent level Summoned.

Am I missing the DEFINE statements for the variables above?

Hana I hope this question makes sense :)

Create Summoner PC, save the PC, go Inventory / Resources / Eidolon.
PCGen will open a new tab with Eidolon.

I haven't messed with PCGen in a long time. Since it's free and uses Pathfinder out of the box I'll give it another try.

Anybody know of a good free virtual tabletop?

I'd also like to thank the PCGen crew for donating their time, skills and effort on developing FREE software.

I already knew how to create a Summoner PC, what I was asking for was a way to give an Eidolon to a PC as a template.

But, I figured it out :)

Rogue + Eidolon pair? Stating up as we speak!

OK, for the life of me, I've downloaded the latest APG data set, and installed it via the tools->install data.

It's still red, and I can select it, but I can't load it. How do you load the APG dataset?

Just figured this out..

I had to unload all the datasets from the default Paizo set, unselect the character trait web enhancement (loaded by default), reload the Core book and then I could select the APG and move it over. Then I had to unload all and load all.

There are two different datasets with traits. They are not compatible and as such you need to remove (and unload) traits before loading APG.

I realize I'm reviving a WAY dead thread here, but I was using PCGen yesterday and exported a csheet_fantasy_combined.htm which, number one, didn't even format correctly into either IE or Firefox, and number two, used to have rage and fatigued buttons built into the html. Those are now gone, and the sheet is a shambles of unimportant information. Any ideas about the resurrection of the rage and fatigued buttons? Or is it because of the Pathfinder sources that this output doesn't work? If Papadrb's in the house, any info you could give would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Only Elvis has left the building, Papa-DRB has not! :-)

I looked at the html for this sheet, and just by the comments and the date of the last update, it appears not be useable with the Pathfinder list files. I will post this over on the main PCGen @ Yahoo and see if the Output Sheet guru's have a better or different answer.

MendedWall12,

Got the same answer over on the main boards. OS-61 bug has been opened for this issue.
