Acid and DR

Rules Questions

Does acid bypass damage reduction?
I cant find it in the rules. i was wandering becasue my players think that "acid splash" is the the "universal key" to everything. all they need to do is stand next to a door and acid splash it or the hinges or the lock to get past it.

I had a read on damage reduction and acid and acid splash.
but it says nothing. am i missing something?

Any energy damage, Acid included, bypasses DR.

However, only creatures have DR.

Objects (such as door locks) usually have hardness, which energy damage does NOT bypass.

Additionally, energy attacks only do half damage against objects(calculated before hardness), unless the GM decides they are particularly effective against the object being damaged (such as fire against ice, or sonic against glass). Since a wooden door has hardness 5, Acid splash (with a maximum of 3 damage without some sort of buff), will never cause damage, even if the GM rules that it deals full damage. A metal lock is hardness 10, which is even harder to break.

The Exchange

By the rules, any damage done to objects has to get by the hardness before applying to the item in question.

Edit: Bah, ninja'd by Ross. :-/
