Crimson good on you for putting a time in to help kids have some fun and learn a lot of good things that will help set them up for a well balanced and productive life.
Sadly, to buy some of the popcorn and have it sent all the way to this side of the world would end up nettig UPS more money in postage than the kids would get!
Whilst this preculdes me from buying, I'd at least urge some of the other more local posters to help out by 'doing it for the kids' and helping make a difference.
I similarly volunteer my time on this side of the world with a similar organisation, except we sell biscuits.
On a tangent, I get where XP and other posters are coming from and I even agree with some of their points, however I would like them to reconsider making the kids fundraising forum a platform for that broader debate.
It's the kids that lose in the end.
Lets rise above all that and show that we can have free debate AND keep it classy.

Their policies aside, I’ve just never been much of a fan of caramel covered stale popcorn. Conversely a girl scout could show up at my door with a swastika tattooed on her forehead, and after telling me that every cent of their sales would go towards funding terrorism, I would still be tempted to buy a box of tagalongs.
My gods are those cookies good.

Everyone has a right to support or not support any organization the choose for whatever reason, but I have to think that its possible to research some of these issues on our own, outside of this thread. It would be nice to just let someone have their thread and leave it at that, and maybe if you want to discuss the positions of a certain organization, a whole other thread might be in order.

The idea of turning a thread into a soap box where only one side of an issue gets discussed seems very counter-productive to m.
I'd rather not have these threads get turned into advertising space.Matthew Morris RPG Superstar 2009 Top 32, 2010 Top 8 |

For the last two years I have had threads. My kids have had a few sales online from such. I have never cross posted. I have until now had no complaints or controversy.

Yes those cookies are quite addictive. The Boyscout Popcorn is as well. now while the prices have not gone down, and I feel some are higher then they should be; they are no longer in the cans but rather in foil wrapped packages which prevent any staleness and keep in that yummy fresh goodness. They also hold more popcorn in these new containers, so you get more for your money.

End of the day...
Boy Scouts does some really good work and helping underprivledged kids attend camp, or supporting and teaching lots of life skills to boys makes this a good cause. Lets not let perfect get in the way of good.
Buy some popcorn from CJ's kids (who will benefit, and who did not put into place any of these policies that you agree, or do not agree with).
Just buy some popcorn.
ETA: I think you will have to wait until next year now... Right CJ?

Despite the unnecessary moderation, I agree another thread would be better for a discussion of the politics of the BSA.
Popcorn on the other hand, is fair game, and everyone knows that Girl Scout cookies > Boy Scout popcorn. What does this teach us? CJ should have had girls. :)
Well my wife wants more children so maybe in 8 years or so you may get a thread asking for GS cookie sales as well. :)
I do not feel the moderation was hard or even unnecessary. I see trolls just trolling for attention. A organization with religious background, being overtly religious is sort of a given to me. When folks rage against said organization following its charter is when I scratch my head in disbelief and wonder why such enmity. I suppose we all just want the world to follow our expectations and some of us are unable to grips with that.
C'est la vie

Yes and once again please keep in mind that you can send some to Troops over seas, who are not all there because they want to be, doing a job I am sure most of them would rather not be doing.
EDIT: you can buy all year long on the website.
November is just the main sales month where they go door to door.
Same with GS cookies by the way. I am sure you can order them online all year long.

If someone is asking a person to support an organization, what's wrong with asking some questions to determine if that's the type of organization you would even want to support. If something has changed and the BSA is no longer denying membership to gay and atheist boys and their parents, I would be more than happy to buy some popcorn. If, OTOH, they still continue to have those discriminatory policies I will not.

Homie, you know exactly what the BSA's policies are. You're just being evil and you know it.

Hate to say it Xp, but I have to agree. Probably because my first inclination was to post something similiar, but my asshattery filter* kicked in.
* Yes, I have one. It's small and feeble, but I'm trying to nourish it. :)

It never ceases to amaze me just how quickly the Girls manage to offload their supplies. We get about 1600 packets between around 40 girls and I always have that moment of apprehension - however before I know it the supplies are exhausted.
The Girls have a good time being out and about raising funds, the biscuits are delicious and well priced, and everyone wins (well some wasitlines might lose...but thats it!)

I've removed a lot of political discussion, and personal sniping, that did not need to be in this thread. If you want to continue pressing the issue, there's a thread for that now.
You don't want to buy popcorn, then don't. I think its safe to say that the issue has been raised.

In retrospect, I did just kinda "fancy" up some asshattery. I will continue in the BSA policy thread. Apologies to CJ.
