APG Spell: Instant Enemy question

I want to know if this spell will make the target be affected by enhancements to my bow. For instance, if I use the spell on a human foe, I get to use my favored enemy bonus v/s giants against him as if he were a giant. Would the giant bane and hunting abilities on my bow also affect him, or just my standard bonus for favored enemy? So far I've been playing just adding my base favored enemy bonus and no weapon abilities against that enemy. I just wanted to know what others thought. Thanks in advance.

That's a tough one, your GM is going to have to make that call.

I think the "for all purposes" phrase refers to all the various uses of favored enemy and any effects that rely on favored enemy status (like Favored Defense), but not type-based effects that aren't tied to favored enemy (like bane).

So, Bane is out. How about Hunting? That is an ability tied directly to my favored enemies, but it is a weapon enhancement. For those who may be wondering, Hunting is a weapon ability that adds 4 points of damage to each attack against favored enemies. Thanks for the help Tom.

I'm not familiar with that magic weapon property, but if its description specifically mentions targeting a favored enemy, meaning a character without the favored enemy class ability would gain no use from it, then yes, I think it would trigger off of instant enemy.

Thanks again Tom. Anyone else have any thoughts on the matter?

Instant Enemy

With this spell you designate the target as your favored enemy for the remainder of its duration. Select one of your favoured enemy types. For the duration of the spell, you treat the target as if it were that type of favored enemy for all purposes.

The spell does say you treat the target as your favoured enemy type for all purposes, so if its treated as the same type of creature as your favoured enemy then bane should work as should hunting. Basically your just changing what the creature is for a short time.

I'll be discussing this more with my GM before next game. Whatever his ruling, my dwarven giant hunter ranger just got a lot nastier.

Sorry I would like to Necro this since it came up in a discussion recently.

I read that as for things like favoured defence not the bane magic effect of a weapon. I might be wrong but wanted to get some feedback.

My understanding is the same as yours. It counts it as a favored enemy, but does not in fact change the creatures type, just how your class abilities treat it. For bane the creature must in fact be that said type of creature. So yep, you've got the right of it.

Happy Gaming!
