I'm fond of summon monster type spells paired with 1st-3rd level rod-quickened area buffs like bless or prayer.
Ah, but you said divinations.
Well, for that I don't have any divinations really on the divine list that I don't like.
Augury is great for things like---can we handle what's down these stairs, will everything go to pieces if we break this seal, is this war winnable? Etc.
Divination has an even broader area of application, and commune is just plain righteous. With commune, you can ask questions like---what kind of magic will I need to prepare if I go to the Halls of Doom? Is there presently a group of assasins after me? Who is plotting against me?...The list just goes on and on.

The problem with your little game is that there really aren't many combo's with divination.
True Strike and a poisoned arrow at extreme range, or throw a melée weapon 80' without penalty.
Arcane Eye in place of Scrying for teleportation set ups. They get no save and Detect Scrying won't alert them. Granted, you've got to be really close to set this up, but it can be great for spying around a dungeon.
Legend Lores used consecutively, like the game Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon. Use once on an item held by a subject and cascade into knowledge about a whole kingdoms histoy, all in one day!
Multiple castings of Contact Other Plane by NPC's. Just make the scrolls for it and have some low level apprentices cast it for you. Enough castings, by law of averages, should gaurentee you the right answers.
Telepathic Bond is really hard to detect normally. Cast it on some commoners and have them spy for you. Also a good replacement for Scry or Die tactics.
Moment of Prescience doesn't cost an immediate action to use, so if there were some way to cast this as an immediate action you could abuse the he'll out of it
That's really all I can think of..

That's partly the reason I'm asking. I love the idea of divination and how useful it is... (I understand that there should be some other mechanic your working with, like evocation or conjuration, or your wizard will suck, but) I'm just trying to boil up some ideas to inspire myself
The idea just has to use divination not be entirely divination!

Divination's role isn't so much to be a combination with other spells, but to give you an advantage in the war for information. It can tell you WHEN to fight, and WHERE, which is frequently more important than magic in the fight itself. It's really best combo'd with diplomacy (for gather information) and bluff (for making plausible and appropriate ruses for a given target). It's also terribly useful for making money---people pay big bucks in the real world for divination spells that don't even work :-)
Imagine how much they'd pay for ones that actually do sort-of work.

This is the opposite of it, I occasionally like to put disguises and illusions on creatures with gaze attacks and leave them moving about for those players who abuse trueseeing.
What's that mean? "people who abuse trueseeing"? Does it mean, "people who cast the spell and use it as intended"?

I assume he means the people who insist on having it up 24 hours a day. These are the same people who, if they were playing a paladin, would detect evil on every single NPC they even casually say hello to. If they were a rogue, they'd insist on taking 20 to search every single tile in the dungeon.

How dare they? What will they do next? Use commune or similar spells to gain answers to mysteries? There's no depravity too depraved for some players!
:P

I guess I don't see that as abuse.

I'm a fan of invisibility and non-detection. Divination spells like See Invis STILL need a caster level check to spot you.
Or, Arcane Mark and a lot of the Divination spells. Mark an object, and then give it away as a gift. A unique mark could be used as a 'well-known' location. I've done this to PCs a few times, and they are usually very slow to figure it out.

O i never thought of divining a mark you placed on an item someone important could want! lol i always just thought it was exclusively used for that one return or summoning spell, nice!

One gaming session of ours, long ago, went something like this:
Markus the Fighter: "Okay, what about that one?"
Wesley the Cleric: "Which one, the one over there?"
Markus: "Yeah."
Wesley: "Fine, I'll check."
*1 minute later*
Wesley: "Sorry."
Markus: "Damn. Okay, whatever. Uhmm.. oo, right there."
Wesley: "You're sure?"
Markus: "C'mon, just hurry up."
Wesley: "You ARE paying for this, right?"
Markus: "Yeah, yeah, whatever, just go."
Wesley: "Very well."
*1 minute later*
Wesley: "Nope."
Markus: "What, seriously? Are you sure?"
Wesley: "Sorry man, woe."
Markus: "Goddamnit!"
Alyssa the Paladin: "What are you two doing over here? We're supposed to be gathering information in this bar for - oh my word, you reek of incense. Are you.. are you using augury to find girls who'll actually spend the night with you?"
Markus: "No."
Wesley: "Yes, he is."
Markus: "... okay maybe."
Alyssa: "UGH, you guys are disgusting. I'm out of here. Meet up at the gates when you're done being pigs."
Markus: "..."
Wesley: "..."
Markus: ".... So, totally unrelated question: does augury work on palad-"
Wesley: "Don't even think about it."

Detect thoughts is a nice, low-level alternative to high power things like True Seeing, and useful against things like shadowdancers too.
And the 3.5 feat: sculpt spell allowed for some really interesting combos, like casting detect magic in a 120 ft line, easily out of range of that trapped statue.
