Okay, so James told us that Paizo will not keep psionics in its present form, nor the classes that we know, such as psion or soulknife. We know that Paizo's "mind magic", for the lack of better name, will use same basic mechanics as the rest of the casters, "Vancian system", again for the lack of better name.
So, my question to you all is - what do you think, how will this new "magic" work? Will we have disciplines again, like in 2nd Ed. or something completely different? Will the classes use spontaneous casting or prepared? Or some form of powers similar to Force from Star Wars? How many different classes? Surely we will get "mind magic" versions of wizard, sorcerer and eldritch knight?
What about crystals? Replaced by ioun stones?
So, what do you think?

If this happens, then the whole thing would feel too much like the "same old". There is no real point to making a new system if the new system is going to be exactly like the old system. For me, "mind magic" would have to be very different from existing magic in order to have a purpose.

Okay, but different in what way?

I guess/hope they will give them only a very few spells, like 2-3, that get better and have a steady progression. Maybe with points you can use on it, with a pool per day.
Like telikenis that gets longer, more ennemies, more uses, bigger DC etc.
Teleport, Srcy and similiar spells would make good spells for this.
Feats or other minor spells would modify the effects too perhaps.
But well, I trust in Paizo, and this subject isn't really that important, there are a lot of ther stuff we will see way before mind mages.

Disciplines will be like School Specialization, pseudo prohibitions only.
Spontaneous casting without components.
Prolly a Sorcerer-like version (a huge error imo, should be more like a cleric) and a bard-like version (but more focused on combat and self-buffing), some PrC too. Imo two classes and a PrC make too much stuff for something optional, but it is how the rpg industry seems to work.
Crystals, psionic tattoos and that kind of stuff will be gone, or become normal items.

I was quite fond of the power point system, but if it must be a Vancian system, then perhaps something like this might work:
Spell progression as a Bard (different spells though), and gain a pool of 'psionic reserve points' which can be spent to apply metamagic effects to the spells without increasing the casting time or slot used, up to a maximum effective spell level of half your class level.

I'd like to see Psionic powers broken into two types; swift actions and meditations. Swift actions include stuff like "protection from arrows" and "hold person", meditations would typically take ten minutes to an hour to perform and include stuff like object reading and astral projection. I'd make Psions the undisputed masters of telepathy and be strong in "mind over body" and clairsentience, but have no teleportation and no blasting (if there's a big enough demand for it, energy blasting can be shunted off to a prestige class).
Obviously, because they are swift actions, Psion swift powers would, otherwise be weaker than core magic. Again, while both psionics and arcane magic are both Vancian, the key difference in how they feel would be the trade off between swift actions and power.
There would be no crystals, no psicrystals, no tattoos, no disciplines, etc. Like sorcerers, psions can't change powers day by day.
