Hey James, hope you're doing well!
1) I know that it's a long shot, but working at Paizo is still a dream for me. I have heard that most Paizo staff members have English degrees. For someone who is already almost done with a degree other than English, what can I do to make myself an attractive job candidate?
2) I am curious as to why most adventure writing is done as freelance work. Is there not really a position for "adventure writer" in the publishing business? Or is it something else?
Thanks for any answers/advice you can provide!

How does the Blood of Dragons class ability from the Dragon Disciple prestige class interact with the Eldritch Heritage (draconic) line of feats?
Sounds like a good question for the rules forum and a FAQ. My guess would be they might overlap; they're two similar feats meant to allow a specific character role but aren't really intended to work together at the same time.

1) Keep an eye on our site for job announcements, first of all. If you're looking to join the design/development/editorial team, start building up your credits and begin writing and designing for the game; take part in RPG Superstar and the open call for PFS scenarios; come to Gen Con and/or PaizoCon if you can and attend the various seminars where we talk about how to write for Paizo, and do lots of work if you can for other publishers.
2) There isn't a position for "adventure writer" at Paizo, no. The closest position to that at Paizo would be "developer," which often requires rewriting (sometimes extensively so) of projects to fit with the company's needs. We don't publish enough adventures to justify an "adventure writer" full-time position, basically.

Greyhawk / Demonomicon of Iggwilv question from Dragon:
Where can I find some good info on Lord Drax's Fiend Sage in Rel Astra? I remember some of the Demonomicons were letters between him and Iggwilv but I want info on the Fiend Sage, personally.
Thanks for your recollections!
I believe we statted up the fiend sage in one of the later volumes of Dungeon, but suddenly I can't remember which one! I'm pretty sure it was Sean who statted him up.

Oh! I'd probably put them out in front of my window at work or in my back yard. Neither of which are entirely mine to decorate, but when a T-rex is involved, you don't need to ask permission because everyone wants one, as far as I can tell.
I can safely say I've yet to meet someone who hasn't liked them. :3

So, I recently discovered that I can make giants into lycanthropes. What do you think is the best animal and giant to make use of this terrifyingly awesome discovery?
Thank you for making me want to stat up a Wererabbit Rune Giant. Nothing says, "I'm terrifying!" like a Gargantuan anthropomorphic bunny with a massive nine-ringed broadsword wearing pants the same color as Caucasian flesh.
At least when they make my masterpiece into a Pathfinder Battles miniature no one will be able to snicker that my wererabbit is wearing no pants.

Quick series of questions, JJ. Looking for advice, not rulings, but I'll post them under FAQ if you think I should on account of the Tidiness of Paizo's House Act. ;P
There's a clause in the Baleful Polymorph spell that a creature with the shapechanger subtype can escape from Baleful Polymorph as a standard action. Considering that if you fail a Will save against the spell, you lose your Supernatural abilities (aka Change Shape), can you still perform this? I'm sort of leaning towards a 'Yes' considering that Baleful Polymorph doesn't change your creature type, and therefore you're still a shapechanger; the spell doesn't seem to care if you still have change shape or not.
If the above is correct, is it safe to assume that your mind would return to normal as well if you failed a Will save?
Finally, I'm working on an RP cost for the kitsune race (it doesn't have one in the ARG) and I'm trying to decide whether or not the kitsune should be paying for the shapechanger subtype or not, considering that it apparently can save you from most polymorph effects. Thoughts?

Would the class be proficient in no shields or just the buckler or small shields and lighter?
Sorry, no book this time:P
I must admit I would be disappointed by a swashbuckler who couldn't use a buckler. That particular shield is the reason for the name after-all.
No snark intended, I've just always liked that particular fighting style.

As stated in the rules for baleful polymorph, you can escape from the spell if you're a shapechanger. That includes physically and mentally.
The shapechanger subtype is such a minor element in the grand scheme of power that it's safe to ignore it for RP costs.

Hi mr Jacobs:
1. When will came the Bestiary 3 Pawns for sale?
2. there will be Carrion Crown Pawns (yes/no/why/when)?
3. why the pawns for AP dont shows up at the same time that the adventure start showing up?
1) Not sure.
2) Can't say.
3) Because we don't have all the art for a pawn set when the first adventure comes out... we can't release a pawn set until we have all the art for an AP, and that happens at the end, not the beginning.

Okay, then by my count that puts the kitsune squarely at 11 RP. Thanks JJ!

I have trouble with the following clause in the polymorph rules:
"While under the effects of a polymorph spell, you lose all extraordinary and supernatural abilities that depend on your original form (such as keen senses, scent, and darkvision)"
If form means "physical makeup" then I would have thought that all Ex abilities were based on form and all Su weren't, just from my understanding of what Ex and Su means. We don't generally get *explanations* for abilities so I'm not entirely sure how to go beyond this simple classification.
What's your view?
Richard

So, I'm building a new character. He's a deformed tiefling witch who has two left... well, everything. The most obvious one is that both of his arms end in a left hand, but both of his dewclaws point to the right, his right wing is curved the wrong way, and both of his eyes are on the left side of his face.
Would this affect gameplay at all? For RP purposes, he wears a mask and full-body cloak to hide his deformities. He also likes to make bets to the general idea of "which hand am I holding up?". Or as he would say it, "Which hand is meself raising?"
And just for fun, I reflect all of this onto whatever familiar he has.

James,
I was wondering, do different religions have different titles they call their priests? Is it Father, Sister, Rabbi, or something like that? More specifically, what would the crew of a ship call a priest of Besmara crew member?
Thank You
They do, but that's not something we've really codified yet.

My view is that it's something you and the GM need to decide the details of when it happens. In order to keep the polymorph spells from being impossibly long and instantly outdated once we publish a new monster with a new ability, we HAVE to keep the wording vague.
Original form means your biological organs, though, be they extraordinary organs or supernatural ones. Not all supernatural abilities come from organs.

How much will my players hate me for the existence of were-deinonychuses/were-velociraptors? (Note that some of my players have played in Savage Tide and thus experienced Ripclaw, and may therefore be biased in favor of their own survival.)
Is it worth it?
I don't know your players, so I can't say, but if MY players were to hate my inclusion of a were-dinosaur of any type... that'd be how I learned I was playing with the wrong players.

Blasted 1-hour edit limit.
How come there aren't any CR 20 Proteans?
Also, are there any law/chaos versions of tieflings and aasimars? Something like Planetouched descended from inevitables or proteans.
Because we haven't invented them yet.
No law/chaos versions of tieflings and aasimars. At least, none yet, and no plans for the future.

I'd chat with your GM, but two things that come to mind...
1) I'm not sure how depth perception would work with vertically aligned eyes.
2) You'll probably never be able to wear magic gloves, goggles, or boots.

And second... commissioning art from awesome artists is what I already do when I write art orders for our products. So I'm already doing that. ;-P

Exactly the same: you need two view points to make a triangle with the object in order to estimate the depth. there's nothing special about them being horizontal.
Else, for starters, you'd get confused lying on your side :)Voyd211 |
Okay, this query has kind of a wordy leadup, so just bear with me.
Say you have an incredibly powerful LE spellcaster. He's got 20 levels of cleric under his belt, but he's on his deathbed from the simple matter of old age. With his last dregs of power, he calls up a contract devil.
My question: Can he contract the infernal slave for someone else? Like, say, his son or grandson? If so, would the spellcaster's soul be the only payment? It'd be kind of interesting to see a pit fiend bound by duty to protect a baby or something.
And yes, before anyone asks, this question was inspired by Kuroshitsuji/Black Butler.

Ohh other thing, does the Int and Cha damage from contact other plane count as ability damage or some other kind of semi-permanent decrease? Also is there any way to remove the affliction earlier then normal?
It's none of the above; it's a decrease to 8, not damage or drain, and as such effects that restore and heal damage and drain can't help you. Wish and miracle can certainly fix it, and I'd probably allow greater restoration to fix it as well.
