The Modern Path is pretty cool. It's D20 Modern Pathfinder. I'm working on a superhero supplement for it, and have a thread for it over in Pathfinder Homebrew (The writers are okay with me making a supplement. I checked with them.).

Have you ever worked on multiple projects at once? I've got a TMP superhero system and a standard Pathfinder Eberron-inspired campaign setting in the works right now.

Heh... you realize that by saying "Third party content is truly the best," you're also saying "Paizo products are inferior," right? No big deal if that's really what you mean, of course, but still... heh.

Anyway... I really DO love how many 3rd party publishers are supporting Pathfinder. It's really cool.

Unfortunately, one of the truths of working in a publishing company like Paizo is that you really don't have a lot of time to look through books beyond the ones you create. When I go home to relax, assuming I'm not doing freelance writing for Pathfinder stuff, and assuming I'm not running a game... I really don't have much time left over to read new game products or to keep up with 3rd party products. Especially since a significant portion of my non-professional gaming energies remains dedicated to Call of Cthulhu. And as a result of all of this... I just don't have the time to get involved in 3rd party products as I used to—back in the early days of 3rd edition, I was ALL OVER 3rd party products, though! It's good to hear and see a similar wealth of options exist for Pathfinder.

As for working on multiple projects at once... every single day. That's more or less standard operating procedure at Paizo. Right now, my primary project here at work is the Rise of the Runelords hardcover, but I'm also helping...

Which unannounced books are you outlining in the Campaign Setting and Players Companions lines? ;)

What is this box from Paizo and why does it keep making a buzzing sound?

10) I do like Sherlock Holmes, but I've actually never read any of the stories. I really REALLY enjoyed the latest incarnation with Robert Downey Jr. though, and I'm looking forward to the next one next month.

Have you seen the 2010 BBC show Sherlock? I just finished it last night and it's amazing. Looking forward to season 2 in 2012.

Have not.

My cable provider doesn't provide an HD BBC channel, and watching shows on it in low-res is infuriating, so I generally don't watch BBC at all. Which quite frustrates my desire to watch the latest season of Primeval.

Spoiled, are we?

What platform are you playing Skyrim on?

I'm considering getting it, but I play on the PC and I've heard rumors that the PC version is a wonky port of the console versions.

I believe it's the other way round, PC is stable and the consoles have the problems

edit:
and by stable I mean the less buggy of the bunch,
that and PC version is more mod-able then console versions.

I do indeed have Netflix. My disc queue is currently at 122 titles, while my instant queue is at a mere 102 titles. AKA: I've got a pretty full Netflix schedule as it stands.

THAT SAID... the episodes of Primeval currently available on Netflix are the previous seasons—I've seen those. I'm eager to see the new season and I hope it shows up on Netflix soon.

:( It's been four days. No feedback yet. That pretty much means there shall be none.

It's for my Eberron-esque campaign setting. They aren't true dragons (which this campaign setting does have), they are little ones with animal intelligence that can be easily domesticated and used as mounts. Why? I love dragon cavalry, and want it to be common in my campaign setting. D&D style true dragons don't lend themselves to mass cavalry at all, so I made a lesser breed that does.

Oh, wait. You prefer not to get into these sorts of things. Sorry. I just really want to share them. Though I admit Dragonette is a dumb name.

Crocosaurus all the way.

Just as I can't say what the next AP will be because it might change, I can't say what it won't be because it might change and we might go with what I thought it wouldn't be.

Not particularly... He kind of frightens me. He could rage at any moment.

The main reasons we use iconic characters are twofold:

1) They make it a lot easier to order art—rather than tell the artists every time what a wizard can and can't wear, it's easier to just show them.

2) As marketing, to help brand a product—when you see a Pathfinder iconic, you know it's something to do with Pathfinder or Golarion.

As such... the MAIN value of an iconic is their artwork. As simple stats, they aren't very useful at all—specific NPCs for the world are more interesting in that case. So if you're not producing art for the characters... I'd say focus on other parts of your campaign setting.

Eberron has some excellent iconics with little or no artwork, however. I was wondering if I should imitate this. I just may. It sounds fun. I liked a lot of the artless Eberron iconics.

James,

It's generally understood that most (though not all) regions of the inner sea have been loosely inspired by historical eras of various real-world nations, with a few fantasy themes thrown in for good measure. I love the result that is Avistan, but I was wondering if the same amount of thought has been put into Tian-Xia? So far, it's pretty clear that Mingkai is an analogue of Japan, and I get the impression that the Dragon Kingdoms is meant to be China (Warring States era?), but does it run deeper than that? Have they been inspired by specific time periods and legends, or is it going to be a generic, stylized east-Asian fantasy setting?

From the article in KQ and the latest AP, there looks to be as much diversity in Tian Xia as there is in the Inner Sea. Hongal, for example seems to be Mongolian influenced.

The same amount of thought has indeed been put into Tian Xia. You'll see soon enough once the Dragon Empires Gazetteer comes out... but just off the top of my head, we have regions in Tian Xia that were inspired by...

Japan
China
Korea
Vietnam
Tibet
Himalayas
Mongolia
Hong Kong
Cambodia
Indonesia
Gobi Desert

I'm sure I'm forgetting a few.

Well, I figured that in a continent this large, a degree of cultural diversity is a given (I mean this is Paizo we're talking about), but does it go beyond simple cultural analogues? In the Inner Sea, for example, it seems that Andoran, Galt, and even Taldor have different elements of France injected into them. Cultures that have been around for a thousand years or more naturally go through a lot of changes in custom and style, and I guess I was wondering if there had been a specific time period in mind for the basis for any of these? Would Mingkai, for example, be based off of the Edo Period, the earlier Asuka period, or some other specific era in Japanese history? Would the Dragon Kingdoms have a pervasive Han feel to them, or would it be more akin to the exaggerated grandeur of the early Qin dynasty (like in Hero!)? It's just that when dealing with cultures sufficiently alien to our own, all of the exoticism tends to bleed together, and these kinds of details seem to have been largely overlooked in other oriental settings.

The same design philosophy we brought to Avistan and Garund was used for Tian Xia, so the type of cultural touchstones and our use of them in the Inner Sea should be a pretty good indicator of how we approached the Dragon Empires.

If you take a look at every fictional country or for that matter world every created, even non-human or mechanical ones, it's very likely that virtually every one you look at can be seen as some form of cultural analogue. Paizo's just giving full disclosure on the ones they're using.

James, when will Paizo address the Padishah Empire of Kelesh in Cassmarion? And what is the proper protocol for the empire? Is it Padishah, or Kelesh empire?

Although I understand the Far East is of more interest to most gamers, I am much more interested in the great empire in the middle of Golarion. Perhaps it's like Taldor, and it's falling apart from the inside. Perhaps it's stronger than anything else we've seen on Golarion.

I wrote up a personality for a Paladin I'm making. I wanted you to take a look, because I tried to make her a significant departure from the typical Paladin while still being Lawful Good and adhering to the code of conduct. How well did I do it?

The Pally:
She's a human in her mid-twenties, with snow white hair and violet eyes. She's of slightly shorter than average height with slightly largish ears, and typically dresses in dark blue, dark purple, or black, as she absolutely loves dark colors. She loves sexy clothing, and wears all sorts of such outfits when not dressed in her (sensible and practical) battle armor.

Personality wise, she likes to be edgy. She enjoys loud music, good food and drink, and the company of pretty girls (she's 100% homosexual). She loves pointing out when people are being idiots, practical jokes, and bawdy humor. She's mouthy, witty, sexy, slightly roguish, and vulgar.

She believes that partying, fornication, vulgarity, witty remarks, and the like are not immoral in any way, and therefore feels no guilt in taking part in it. She's be a bit roguish, but she doesn't do anything that's illegal. She may enjoy being edgy, but she believes heavily in the rule of law, and she follows the law to the letter, even when she disagrees with it. To her, laws are necessary to preserve freedom, as without laws the strong will prey upon the weak invariably, but she also believes that the law should allow as much personal freedom as possible while protecting people from harm. She adheres closely to the Paladin code of conduct, avoiding lying, cheating, taking advantage of people, and the like. She's also smart enough to know when not to be vulgar or mouthy, and shows proper etiquette when it's called for. She's deeply committed to the cause of good, and has a special hatred of corrupt government officials, slavery, and sexual assault. She hates corrupt officials and slavers on general principle, and has had some... personal experience with sexual assault (her sister, not her).

She wears black lacquered full plate armor with a deep purple sash around her waist (which is actually a belt of mighty constitution), and her favored weapon is a scythe.

What do you think? Do you like her? Do you think she could be an iconic for my Eberron-esque campaign setting, or is she too different from the average Paladin?

Lots of folks want to see us do something with the good outsiders. Many folks here at Paizo want do do a book like that. What it would be called, and if/when we eventually do a book like that are still unknown.

I do know it won't be set up in the same format as the Books of the Damned. At the very least it'll have a different series title.

That depends entirely on the GM. In my games, no, channeled energy looks SIGNIFICANTLY different based on your deity. A worshiper of Pazuzu might spew out a cloud of flesh-eating birds when he channels negative energy, while a cleric of Sarenrae might cause a burning halo to manifest over the heads of the targets she chooses that then shoots divine power down into their heads.
