Scarab Sages

does the Dance of Joy

And it's already been renewed for a second season before the first even airs.

EDIT: Apparently it hasn't been officially renewed yet, but they've had strong discussions on it.

Silver Crusade

It looks incredibly faithful. As in much of it looks taken word for word from the first issue of the comic. There were some details and scenes they added, but it looks like it's going to mesh.

Hot damn, this is going to be a rough series to watch.

I wonder who'll play Michonne. Is Gina Torres to much to hope for?

Awesome promotional/behind the scenes video. >>LINKY<<

As appealing as that is, I suspect they'll be going for someone younger.

But man that is appealing.

FYI the first episode has been leaked online. I won`t say where you can find it here mainly because of legal issues but those of you on facebook send me a message I suppose I could give you the details.

Silver Crusade

Does anything eagerly awaited by geek culture actually manage to avoid getting leaked any more these days? Damn!

I'm eager to hear the reactions, at least.

Scarab Sages

GO HORDE GO!

Dark Archive

Watching it now. So far so good. Loving it.

*Grumble Grumble* I need a bigger DVR. *Grumble Grumble*

Liberty's Edge

I think the casting captured thier looks more or less, with the exception of Shane.

It's been leaked online. I'm personally waiting to watch it because I want my viewing of what I expect to be a great show to count towards it's ratings. And honestly, I likely wouldn't watch it if I had already seen the pirated copy.

Watch it on 2 TVs, once for me! I don't have cable and I'll be playing pathfinder. :)

BTW, The pilot episode was made of awesome!

I'm so happy I could cry.

Please tell me I wasn't the only one thinking Kevin Bacon zombie.

ALSO

Bike zombie scene and the concurrent scene... <3

It looks like the big changes from the comic kick in next episode. I hope it still follows the general flow of the comic though, with the same major characters coming in(Tyreese, etc.)

Yes! I wasn't thinking that, exactly, but I knew he looked like somebody.

The changes so far have been good. Not 'better' than the comics, but good.

I loved the depth in Morgan and Duane's story. Pretty emotional scenes.

Over all a lot... darker(?) than I was expecting for a TV series, but I loved it.

From the looks of things and the talk going about, it's looking like the whole first season(which is going to be a bit short, IIRC) is going to be an expansion of the first story arc.

If they maintain this level of quality, I'm totally down with that. It does make me a little worried about how long it'll take until they get to certain arcs and characters I'm furiously curious about making the transition to live action TV.

So far, most of the talk I've heard form people locally has revolved around the

Spoiler:
bike zombie/zombie wife scene and especially "THAT POOR HORSE!"

Some folks are glad the latter happened in the first episode. Otherwise they would have been distracted by constantly wondering when it would inevitably happen. :D

Also, heard at least one guy complain, "Why did they paint "DON'T DEAD OPEN INSIDE" on the doors? That doesn't make sense." :\

On Shane:

Spoiler:
Man, they really want to make him unlikable to the audience in this version, huh? Those first few minutes after the title sequence and everyone in the room has a dislike for 'im.

Sovereign Court

Yep, I enjoyed the hell of the first episode. It's got me waiting in anticipation for the next 5 and keeping my fingers crossed AMC doesn't pull a Fox of this series.

Spoiler:
I am wondering if they will have Carl shoot Shane as in the comic or if it will get tweaked.

Any word on who could be in the running for Tyreese, Axel, Michonne (please Gina Torres, please) and the Governor? I realize these are most a way off in the series (most likely) but curiosity is getting the better of me.

The Exchange

Mikaze wrote:

I was just talking to a friend about that last night. He liked the show but hasn't read the comics.

Haven't heard anything. I'm hoping for Gina too, but we'll see.

I'm also wondering how they will handle Rick's 'disability' when it comes up. Seems that could be rather tricky to do believably.

Dark Archive

There's a lot of things I'm wondering if they'll show. Lets face it the comic really wasn't PG-13 or prepared for tv. But I'm loving the series in both TV and comic.

I really liked the comic series at first, but after a while it seemed like it was less about survival and human nature in the face of catastrophe and more about how awful and depressing the writers could make Rick's life. I mean, past a certain point (the end of the jail arc) I just couldn't take any more and stopped reading.

As much as I hope they don't introduce the Governor, I'm certain they will, because he's a popular character and an effective villain. I just don't want this series to become a long, painful slog through suffering and misery.

Well, it's not like the Zombie Apocalypse will be green fields and fuzzy bunnies. As harsh as the end of the prison arc was, it just reinforced that this is a bad time and bad things happen to everybody (As if it wasn't apparent before that).

At this point the only character I feel is 'off limits' is Carl, because I think eventually we will see the comics become more his story than that of anyone else. In some ways, I think it already is.

Liberty's Edge

Any idea where I can see this online? To be clear I am not looking for pirated anything. I do not have cable (or even a TV!) but am used to being able to watch what i want the next day on the site of whoever made what i want to see. Apparently this is not an option with AMC. :(

Anyway, with this as my limitation how can I see it without waiting for the DVD release?

Thanks in advance!

I bought it off Amazon's Video on Demand service. I stream it to my plasma TV using a Roku, but there's no reason you couldn't watch it on your PC.

The Exchange

Unfortunately, it looks like AMC doesn't stream their shows like many other networks do.

You can purchase episodes on itunes, Amazon and such. Link here.

Okay, true, and I could have handled most of it, but

Spoiler:
the brutal, needless murder of Lori and her newborn
was just way too much for me. It crossed the line from survival horror to snuff at that moment.

we trick or treated that night and when we finally got my daughter to bed, i was exhausted.
god bless tivo.
i'll be watching it later tonight.

Liberty's Edge

I am liking it a lit so far.

Looks like it has a lot of potential.

I heard the second season renewal thing to not sure if that is official either.

Sean

Also totally liked the premiere - haven't read any of the comics though, so just taking it all on face value.

This is incorrect. You can find the video for the first episode on AMC's site here. Enjoy.

No, not incorrect. That wasn't there when I made the post, and the description says AMC.com 'is only streaming the premiere episode'. So, this is not a solution for folks who don't have AMC or can not watch it when it airs on Sunday night.

You said AMC does not stream their shows. Obviously, they do. Regardless, the episode in question is up now, so folks like Sigil can check it out.

Sovereign Court

Awesome, just one little nitpick,

Spoiler:
wouldn't a rotten corpse inside a tank especially in the heat of Atlanta cause the air inside the tank to be litterally unbearable, I'm not talking uncomfortable I'm talking about suffocation causing noxiousness?

Anyway, aside from that, it's looking to be an amazing show.

Good Lord, troll much? They generally don't, what's obvious is that this is an exception.

Yeesh you two, okay obviously Rauol is being a bit nit picky, but don't get all heated and call him a troll. Rauol, you can point out that the pilot is available, but clearly you are both right because while they may stream some shows, and I appreciate you linking it, they clearly don't stream all their shows because the website clearly says that after this first episode, you'll have to watch it on TV, and for the record they weren't streaming it right away because I tried to find this as well and at the time I searched it wasn't there.

This is a fun thread for an awesome new show starting up, can we not turn it into a contest over who can be the most "right"?

No worries. On with the thread, please.

It's all smurfy. I was done anyway.

I saw Bear McCreary has a blog post up about the first episode.

Sovereign Court

well episode one ended with a small departure from the normal comic, but still seemed to be following very closely. Episode two though, man, you really can't get farther from the original story. People just knew they worked by smell, they didn't have to figure that out? I mean I still enjoyed it, and I understand that maybe the comic is a bit slow for television as it had a lot more interesting dialog, also not wanting the comic readers to know exactly whats going to happen next. Still, the basic plot is still there, just a bit more actiony (yes I'm making up words, if truthiness can make it's way into the oxford-english dictionary then I can make up actiony).

Oh and what's with all the new characters I don't remember from the comic, and where's the little girl who the boy is friends with?

Still hope they don't change the ending from the first volume of the walking dead.

and anyone else find it weird that they can show people dismembering a corpse, but not show them puke on television.

The Exchange

I didn't think last night's episode was as good as the premier. It was good, just seems odd to take an entire episode and devote it to a couple of pretty minor plot points. The story as a whole barely moved forward at all and that seems to be the last thing you would want to do with such an incredibly short 'season'. Hell, it's more of a mini-series really.

One of the reasons Sons of Anarchy works so well is that, because it has 13 episode seasons, they cram a lot of story and action in every episode. It's always moving forward. Last night's Walking Dead had lots of action, but the story just kind of sat there in idle.
