Damn, I got ninja'd about 5× while trying to finish Alis' reply! *laughs*

Oh and you better not be meta-gaming mister. You do NOT want that little daydream Lureene was having earlier in OoC to actually become a reality. ;)

Awww...bummer...

So I figured out how 'Priyya' got the archer count wrong - without it being a result of mind-blowing sex with Mal - when two arrows were fired from the blind, I assumed it was 2 archers with 1 arrow each, not 1 archer firing 2 arrows. As we know, the only person LEGALLY allowed to fire multiple arrows is Priyya! :)

Male Sky Elf Game Master lv 20

Ah ok. Yeah I don't really do the cookie-cutter thing with enemies. Even those having the same hit dice and class levels might have different arrays of feats, etc. Helps to keep things interesting.

Male Sky Elf Game Master lv 20

Hey guys, I just came up with a new template on the wiki that greatly simplifies linking to spells. I'm thinking about moving some of the daily spell tracking lists and spellbooks over to take advantage of it:

Spell Linking Template

Basically all you do to make a link to the spell rules at d20pfsrd.com is type:

{{S|Spell Name}}

It will then produce a link showing the title of it exactly as you typed it. That means case-sensitivity doesn't matter, the script handles that on its own. :)

FWIW the reason I linked to d20pfsrd instead of the PRD is that the PRD stores its spells in 2 different locations depending on whether they are in the CRB or APG. I figured it's easier to just go to one place and use one script instead of needing different ones.

If you guys want to move your spellbooks over, you have authoring rights so feel free. To include your own tracking lists in the correct spot, simply add the following line at the bottom of your list:

[[Category:Tracking, Rumble]]

Alis' list will be moved here:
http://wiki.worldsunknown.com/wiki/Tracking,_Alis

The only bump is... the Spell Compendium spells aren't available on the d20pfsrd.

Male Sky Elf Game Master lv 20

For those it's pretty much the same as how you'd link them on the forums:

spell name

becomes...

[http://spell.on.some.other.site spell name]

That's assuming you even care about linking to them, of course. For Fly (Swift) I simply linked to the regular Fly spell and changed the display name like so:

{{S|fly|fly (swift)}}

That results in the following:

fly (swift)

If you can find a site that actually has all the SC spells listed, link me to it and I may be able to add support for it too. The only one I know of is imarvin's but his would be difficult since the links are by spell ID rather than name.

Male Sky Elf Game Master lv 20

Oh ho ho, I'm rolling now!

Just created another template that links to Wondrous Items on the PRD site (the WI list on d20pfsrd is JACKED).

Usage:

{{WI|Bag of Holding}} = Bag of Holding
{{WI|Bag of Holding|Purse of Holding}} = Purse of Holding

OMG, this is going to make maintaining a character's spellbook and inventory sooo much easier. I wish I'd thought of this at the start of Fallen for Alexis...

Aaand another for APG Wondrous Items:

{{WIapg|Apple of Eternal Sleep}} = Apple of Eternal Sleep

I'm curious about this PBP, as the DM has invited me to stop and say hi if i was interested. Well.. Hi =)

Hi Jason,

I remember you when you were in my old Ravenloft PbP. Your character Zirul was pretty wicked as I recall.

Anyway, the character I am running is Lureene Ourson, the ultra-hot half succubus wizardess. She has a long backstory tracing back to an old 3.5 game I was in. Her father was one of my old characters. I also have another character, but he is no longer in the group. Of course he did leave his mark on the group, he he.

If you are familiar with the Serpent’s Skull Adventure path, you know it starts with the PCs marooned on a jungle island. We actually have only been here a few days, and are still looking for a way off this island. (Well, most of us are anyway, he he.) So the actual AP stuff has just started.

If you are serious about joining us, I strongly recommend you check out Laithoron’s wiki site first, and then check out the tracking list under his profile. There is a LOT of backstory, stuff I even forget about, he he.

Also if you have access to Google chat, you can chat with both Michael and myself, and shoot questions at either of us.

Male Sky Elf Game Master lv 20

Hi Jason, thanks for dropping in!

Like Eric said, he and I are both logged into Google Talk pretty much 24×7. If you wanted to hit me up on there with any questions, my account is the same as this message board alias. For my email address simply attach @gmail.com to the end. :)

I need to take care of a few things on my lunch break right now, but I'll try to type up a quick run-down of the campaign-to-date for you when I get back. If there's any questions you have, feel free to ask. I've tried to answer some preemptive ones on the wiki, so you might want to check out that expectations article just to get a feel for how we roll/role. :)

Back in a bit!

Dark Archive

Hey Eric! I really was just getting into the swing of things when that PbP died out. Really had fun with that character..

Okay Laith.. OH!! You're ElvenTailor on DA.. Been following you for a few months now lol (as Sechal)..

Anyway.. I actually don't know anything about the SS AP.. I did read your expectations, and I'm cool with all that.. Im just worried that, because I probably will be posting slower than everyone else, you may not want me =/

I can post a minimum of once a day, guaranteed, Im just not sure I can keep up with 20+ a day..

Also, in your expectations it said something about using 40 points for point-buy? Is that right? Also, where can I find character creation for your PBP?

Hey Jason,

Priyya (aka Justin) here... 40 points is correct. This is a high buy, gestalt game with a fair number of variations from the norm. Most, if not all of them, are enumerated in the wiki but I'm sure folks around here will be happy to provide answers... not me though. I'm a surly, rat-bastard who tries to be as unhelpful as possible. :p

What kind of character are you interested in playing? We are down an 'in-your-face-combo-platter-o'-pain' fighter type... not that that should guide your character creation decision. I'm just pointing out the largest 'gap' we have currently.

PS - Lureene only thinks she is ultra-hot. Secretly, everyone is really after Priyya due to her personal magnetism which is so great that even black holes say "GAWDDAMN that girl has PULL!"

PPS - This is a fair example of the level of cross-chat and banter that happens.

Male Sky Elf Game Master lv 20

Yep, DA:Elven Tailor is me alright, I knew your name sounded familiar from somewhere beyond just the forums. :D

So I just realized that the wiki article I have on character creation is actually for my last local game that I was running. ^_^; Sorry about that, I'll try to get everything linked together for you this afternoon so you have have a look over it.

Also, I'm happy to see that the expectations look ok to you. Like I may have mentioned on the wiki, they aren't rules so much as just a heads-up about how we play, a courtesy. As far as posting frequency goes, some days (like yesterday) can be really busy whereas other times the pace is a bit more subdued. If you are concerned about how frequently you can post, I just had an idea on that...

If you like, you could hop in immediate and run Malandraenas (a stoic, animalistic ranger/druid who is Princess Alis' body guard and has recently become Priyya's lover). If you tried your hand at running him for a week or two, that might give you a feel for how much time you have, and what sort of a character you might want to 'roll up'. It would mean that you could hop in right away while we work on writing your own character into the plot.

Either way is fine by me:

  • Run Mal for a short time while we work on your permanent character (they could perhaps join after the leave the island which would allow a lot more creative freedom on how they meet up).
  • Go straight to character creation and try to figure out how your guy/gal got stuck on a tropical island full of cannibals.
  • Some combination of the two.

Let me know what sounds good!

*gets busy writing up the character creation rules...

Laithoron wrote:

Hey, now, 'lover' is a strong term. There has been a smoldering interest between the two for months now and they finally decided to knock boots... and if Priyya has anything to say in the matter, they'll do it again. :D For a Paladin, she can be selectively trampy at times.

Dark Archive

I'll just jump straight into it and make a character.

I want to give ample warning however, on the 23rd, I'll be out of state for 2 weeks. If you have no compulsions against NPCing my character during that dime, I'd love to be a part of this PBP. I will try my best during those two weeks to try to get one post in, but that's very doubtful, to be honest.

My character choices usually lean toward the wizardly, but Im kinda interested in playing a brutish warrior type. Maybe there's a way to combine the two? Hmmm.. I'll think on it ;)

Heh, I don't think 'lover' is quite strong enough. The way you and Mal...ummm...coupled...made Fel's nose bleed, and he is half a continent away!

LOL! It was a bit of a sexual 'collision' - true enough.

I was kinda thinking Arcane Duelist Bard.. I'll think more on it.. I'm off to work now.. be back around midnight (it's almost 3pm now).

A Bard, eh? Why do I envision future duets with Alis then? Hmmmm...

Hmmm. Bards love them some CHA...
.
.
.

AlisK = CHA 20 (22)
Lure = CHA 21
Priya = CHA 20
Jason = CHA 20-ish

Let the Charismageddon BEGIN!

Male Sky Elf Game Master lv 20

Heh, if you go with a bard Jason, just make sure to make them a busty blonde so that Priyya is the only character who isn't one. ;D

Priyya's jet black mane of hair contrasts with the metallic sheen of the PGMP (Plasma Gun Man-Portable) resting heavily on her shoulder. Alis spies the massive black barrel pointing her way and even fancies that she can see one of Priyya's startling almond eyes through the business-end of the optically-enhanced reticle...

It's a good thing I'm not some top-heavy bimbo or this shoulder harness would never fit.

ffwwwaaaaddddDDDDAAAAADOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMM!!!!!!!

Only a smoking set of a designer heels remain as a wisp of blonde hair floats down.

</3

"Say Priyya, why did you just vaporize Tiniel like that? I know that you're a paladin and all, but killing other people's secret agents just because they 'may or may not have been assassins at some point' is kind of problematic... And did you really have to nuke her disguise pin too? Honestly..."

"This is a camera. I guess the flash malfunctioned. I've fixed it... hold still for just a second..."

:P

"Oh, well I'm good with gadgets! Here, let me take your picture first..."

>:D

"Princesses first... Better yet, stand over there with Lureene. I wanna get a picture of all 4 of you."

See, this is what you get for teasing the non-blonde, non-stacked, member of the party!

Seriously, I hope Jason is considering a male character. We've got enough estrogen floating around the hizzle, fo'shizzle!

Male Sky Elf Game Master lv 20

Yeah, we're pretty set on femme fatales at this point. Might be cool if we have someone who can take a hit in combat too...

Arcane Duelist Bard is just one class. Jason could definitely put the emphasis on 'duelist' with any of several combat classes to augment it. I guess it depends on how much spell-casting he wants to roll with. If the Bard levels meet his need, then he could go Bard 5 / 'pick a fighter type' 5.

That'd have some serious HP & beatdown potential.

FWIW, Jason, we often toss build ideas back and forth like this... just hashing out possible scenarios. I'm not trying to influence your build, just considering things.

Currently, (Laith and Lureene feel free to chime in) here is how the duties bust out usually...

  • Alis (leader) is Knowledge maven / spy / trap mistress / combo spellcaster / sneaky fighter / and part-time generalist

  • Lureene is the wizard / summoner (usually for some combat or recon)/ and part-time generalist

  • Priyya is Healbot / distance death (pretty good with a bow) / and a thinner-skinned second melee fighter

Tactically, Alis oscillates looking for advantageous places to step in, Lureene hangs back (generally), and Priyya is either in the middle or the front depending on how much healing vs combat is required.

We are currently rolling with a stack of NPCs who complicate the mix... but that is a snapshot of it.

Oh, Bard 5 / Barbarian 5? A skald or poet-warrior of sorts?

Male Sky Elf Game Master lv 20

Alrighty, I finished a first draft of a page containing the character creation rules specific to this campaign:
http://wiki.worldsunknown.com/wiki/Character_Creation,_Rumble

Eric, Justin: Give me a heads-up if I've neglected anything.
Jason: Let me know if anything in there is unclear or undefined.

Going to work on writing up a 'short' synopsis of what's happened to date. Wish me luck... I'll need it.

BTW, to expand upon the party roles Justin has already brought up, it might be useful to have an at-a-glance view of everyone's character classes and spellcasting:

  • Alis: Bard (Sea Singer) 4, Rogue 2, Sacred Consort 2, Sorcerer (Arcane) 2
    Spellcasting: Sacred Consort 2, Sorcerer/Diviner 4
  • Lureene: Rogue 1, Summoner 2, Tiefling Paragon 3, Wizard 4
    Spellcasting: Wizard/Enchanter 5
  • Malandraenas: Barbarian 1, Druid (Lion Shaman) 5, Ranger 4
    Spellcasting: Druid 5
Note: Mal is currently being NPC'd as he was played by Ben, the player who departed.
  • Priyya: Cleric 5, Monk (Zen Archer) 2, Paladin (Warrior of the Holy Light) 3
    Spellcasting: Cleric 5

Male Sky Elf Game Master lv 20

Our group of intrepid heroes all met in the inter-dimensional tavern known as Limbo where Lureene was hiding out from an ex-employer by working as a waitress. She and Alis, the Princess of Greengold, Kyonin, met up when the young bard literally kicked in the front door of the tavern. Along with her twin sister, Princess Alexis, and their retainer, Nelliel (aka Miss Nell), the twins were staying in Cassomir, Golarion pending the departure of an expedition to Arcadia for which Alexis was going to be a chief researcher for the Pathfinders.

After some eventful shopping trips, Lord Laithoron, an exclusive elven tailor living in Cassomir, suggested that the young princess might do well to use up some of her boundless energy by competing in a Dungeon Crawl Challenge being hosted in the town of Kassen not far away. Alis (having a not-so-secret crush on Laithoron) immediately agreed and sought to recruit a band of adventurers so they could all have a bit of fun before Alexis had to set sail.

In addition to her sister, and an old friend of their late parents (Morgaard), she managed to talk the cleric Priyya, and the sailor Felmor into joining her. She also promised to Lureene that the young succubus could join her on her own expedition to the Mwangi Expanse which was leaving the following month.

After surviving the dungeon crawl challenge, they returned to Cassomir and prepared to attend a going away party for Alexis at the estate of their Aunt Corrina, the ruling Countess of Cassomir. Felmor had been knighted by the princesses for his bravery, and a romance had developed between himself and Priyya. However, due to Alis tinkering with the Limbo Tavern's transdimensional portal one too many times, Reality™ got turned inside out and a new universe was spawned!

In this new reality, the sisters were the joint rulers of Silverwake,Ilmarond on the world of Elsemar. Rather than having returned to Cassomir, they found themselves in Caen Carrinac, Estoria which was still ruled by their Aunt Corrina.

Rather than embarking on an expedition to Arcadia for the Pathfinders, Alexis was headed to Wildethar for the Academy of Starsha. Alis' own expedition, to explore the Mwangi Expanse instead was bound for The Buahons.

Yet even those fates were bound to be altered. Waiting outside of the Silver Hart Inn and Tavern, waiting on the Princesses was Corporal Malandraenas, a marine from an elite special forces unit headed up by Alexis and Alis' older step sister, the true Princess of Ilmarond, Larathiel (Alexis and Alis were adopted into the elven royal family after the death of their parents when they were still young).

The grim, towering warrior had been assigned to Alis as her new bodyguard as she would be heading not to The Buahons on a colonial expedition, but rather to Port Eldarion, Dafar to defuse a potentially volatile political situation. Resigned to her fate, Princess Alis bid Alexis farewell and assembled her entourage from Felmor, Lureene, Malandraenas, and Priyya.

Over the course of the next two months, the five journeyed overland to the metropolis known as Malatesta. They were aided in this journey by the enigmatic gypsy princess Yvonne d'Calla and her caravan company The Golden Drakes. Along the way, there were assassination attempts on Alis which were just part of an even larger plot by a group of diabolists known as The Cabal of the Ruby Coil to take over trade in Elsmyr Dale. Here, an assassin by the name of Chivane had coerced the local criminal elements (the Tar Dogs gang) to incite a civil war by spreading rumors that Alis was an envoy sent from Estoria to make a secret deal with the rulership of the City of Dunwaar that would sell out the populace's independence.

The plot was defused, the assassin and her bonded devil, Lucia, slain, and the Tar Dogs were overwhelmingly defeated.

As a result of assassination and kidnapping attempts, Alis and her companions' arrival in Malatesta was long overdue. Upon arrival, Princess Larathiel had unwelcome news. The situation in Dafar had worsened. Lady Gweniel Taurion, the Governor of Dafar, had been slain in massive riots that had broken out in Port Eldarion. As the most capable diplomat in the area with the authority to sort the situation out, King Aramandil (Larathiel's father and the twins' adopted father), had declared martial law and decreed Alis take over as Governor.

Given the trials that they had already faced, Alis employed a ruse to throw off any other assassins or spies. She disguised two secret agents loyal to Ilmarond, Arion and Tiniel, as Malandraenas and herself. Yvonne agreed to be disguised at Priyya, with other members of her group adopting the personae of the other members of Alis' retinue. The princess and her friends then disguised themselves as a merchant family. The imposters were the ones to sail with a slower military convoy while Alis and company snuck out of the city quietly on the swift merchant vessel The White Pearl. With any luck, they would arrive in Port Eldarion well ahead of the military convoy.

It was aboard this ship that the heroes met many interesting characters including the enigmatic and powerful wizardess Ieana; Aerys, a heart-broken lady sailor whom Priyya befriended and cured of her alcoholism; First Mate Alton Devers, whom Mal befriended and later romanced Aerys; Gelik, a lecher and a comedian who was on the thin ice with the Academy of Starsha and befriended Alis; Ishirou, a salty old seadog who trained Alton and Mal in unarmed combat; Jask, a former court scribe from Dafar framed for treason by his superiors; and Sasha, a scatter-brained and blood-thirsty huntress that Lureene befriended only to later learn that she was the great grand-daughter of the assassin Chivane!

After a great deal of time bonding at sea, the party arrived in the infamous city known as Light's End. There they survived an unholy war led by a cult dedicated to the Demon King, Raukán Zaal who sought to eliminate Sasha and her friends. The cultist (known as the Sacral Umbra), mistook Sasha for her cousin Sorsha, a member of the Ruby Coil and the Order of the Wasp — their arch rivals. Ironically, the party had to side with the same assassins who had previously tried to kill them in order to ensure their mutual survival against the dark cultists!

After surviving that calamity, the White Pearl set sail thru the treacherous straight south of Light's End where Scylla and Charybdis attack their convoy. The Pearl lost nearly half her crew, to Scylla's rapacious tentacles, while the other three ships in the convoy met their doom at the end of Charybdis' claws. Only the combined efforts of Alis' sea singer abilities coupled with Mal and Ieana's control over the wind saw the clipper ship thru, yet the brave second mate Ishirou was lost to a great wave Scylla summoned in her last attempt to sink the retreating vessel.

Once new sailors had been taken on and repairs were effected, the White Pearl began the final leg of the voyage to Dafar. Yet Captain Kovack threw a party announcing that after everything that had happened, he had decided to retire and would be naming First Mate Alton Devers as the new captain. Kovack, having finally found a good woman in Ieana, had decided to settle down.

Yet that night, Ieana, who had been manipulating the captain for her own secret ends, poisoned the crew and altered the ships heading putting her on a collision course for the haunted island known as Reaver's Shiv! Alton and Aerys managed to break free of the control and a fight ensued between Captain Kovack and his First Mate during which Alton was wounded.

Too little, too late.

The White Pearl crashed headlong into the accursed island killing nearly everyone aboard. Ieana and Kovack escaped just before the crash via the wizardess' magic, and only Alton's heroics managed to save the party and the other passengers from drowning. The next morning, the heroes awoke to find themselves being attacked by sea scorpions, one of which had removed the hairpin maintaining Lureene's disguise. The princess' ruse was uncovered, yet the greater concern was not hurt feelings but rather survival.

Sadly, Alton, who had rescued everyone, was slain by a giant sea scorpion during his final trip to the wreck while attempting to salvage supplies. Not long thereafter, while Alis, Lureene, Mal and Priyya began to track Ieana and Kovack across the island, giant cannibals sacked the campsite where Aerys, Gelik, Jask, and Sasha were staying. Everyone but Sasha (who was out hunting) was captured.

Now, the party stands in the sacred grove of the dryad druidess, Aycenia, where Alis has just completed a Tarot reading that hints at Ieana's true purpose: to ensorcell the Red Mountain Devil, a fearsome fiend worshiped by the cannibals, and gain access to whatever secret it guards!

TL;DR: Hey, YOU try summing up 4300 posts in the space of 2 hours, dammit! :P

Oh cool! I didn't think you meant actual "gestalt" rules when you said gestalt, I thought you were merely describing what you called 40 points for point-buy...

One thing I noticed.. Half-Orc isn't on your "races" list......... >.>

I'm kinda thinking Arcane Duelist (bard)/Barbarian (or Fighter).. or Alchemist/Fighter.. or Inquisitor/Fighter.. Or maybe even Ranger/Barbarian..

Oh, I don't know right now. It's 2am, and I need sleep. You need muscle, right? And it looks like spellcasting is covered, so I'll try not to go with anything greater than a bard progression.. That list is just a list of ideas for everyone to chew on and discuss.. I could really use some direction at the moment =)

Just an opinion here...

I think that as long as you have a chunk of levels in Fighter, Barbarian, or Ranger then your other class can be whatever amuses you. Since you mentioned Bard early on, I'm assuming you'd like to play that more than Alchemist, Inquisitor, or two fighter classes.

I don't know anything about this Adventure Path so I don't know if Ranger is strictly necessary after we get off this island. Hopefully Laith can provide some guidance about that. :)

Based on your interest in the bard, I'd be inclined to go with AD Bard/Fighter (for the three combat feats you get at 5th Fighter which will nicely round out the Arcane Duelist angle) or the AD Bard/Ranger (for the variety of abilities and to augment your casting a bit more since you like wielding magic). If you like the edge Rage provides, I can see why you'd go that route.

Male Sky Elf Game Master lv 20

Being as the setting is Heroes of Worlds Unknown, half-orcs are generally not a race that I'm inclined to allow due to how it is that goblinoids come into existence on Elsemar.

For this campaign in particular, it really wouldn't fly: the party's patron is an elvish princess. She already has a hard enough time dealing with the full-blooded elves she rules over due to her mixed heritage. Willingly abiding the company of a goblinoid would be a deal-breaker. (It's less of a deal for Alexis since she is on the opposite side of the world and goblins aren't corrupted elves like orcs are.) Even Mal is pushing the limits on how savage a companion she's able to tolerate.

In terms of direction, I really don't want to have to NPC Mal for the long haul. Due to in-character differences between Alis and him, it's likely that she'll reassign him to more proactive duties once we reach Port Eldarion.

Being as much of the campaign takes place in the wilderness, a character with wilderness survival skills would certainly have many opportunities to use such abilities. Also a character who has some staying power in combat, enough tactical awareness to not rush headlong into ambushes, and a willingness to fight as part of a team would be ideal.

Mind you, if playing a woodsy character isn't your cup-o-tea, don't sweat it too much. Right now, I'm thinking one of Alis' next levels will be in Fighter (to represent this whole rough situation toughening her up). So we will end up with someone skilled in survival, etc. she just won't be as elite at it as a character custom-built for it.

Out of all your proposed builds, the ones I like best are Inquisitor/Fighter and Ranger/Barbarian. Here's why:

  • Inquisitor/Warrior: There are already two elvish secret agents en route to Port Eldarion: Arion (male) and Tiniel (female). An Inquisitor/Fighter or Inquisitor/Ranger would make for a perfect secret agent. If you've ever seen Brotherhood of the Wolf, think of the lead character, the Knight. Your character could either be one of them or another agent sent from either Ilmarond or Estoria to help root out the conspiracies brewing in Dafar.
  • Barbarian/Ranger: Dafar is a protectorate of Ilmarond. A 'barbarian' character could be either a human or half-elven native of Dafar who sees the best way of helping his people achieve independence is either pledging his strength to a new governor committed to helping Dafar achieve independence, or eliminating one who seeks to keep them subjugated.
  • Any class with access to Stealth, Perception, and Acrobatics would be able to mesh well with a party like this — one that is better suited for infiltration than frontal assaults.

If you like, I am very open to the idea of your character being of noble birth. Whether that means they are scion of a tribal leader from the Zuktol Wildlands, a knight (in title, not necessarily in shining armor), or maybe an ambitious young noble hoping to use the situation to prove his worth to king and country, wealthy characters hailing from privilege aren't something I'm squeamish about like a lot of GMs I've known.

Anyhoo, those are just a bit of brainstorming, you don't have to feel obligated to pay them any mind if they don't appeal to you. :)

Dark Archive

So many options to chose from. I know I want Fighter. I'm just having trouble with my second class. I know it's going to be hard to stay away from full spellcasting, and I like the idea of casting in armour. Which leaves me the following options for my second class (and I apologise for not making a decision quicker):

Bard
Cleric*
Druid*
Ranger
Alchemist
Inquisitor
Oracle*
Summoner

I excluded Paladin because I just don't play paladins.

* - full casting class

Male Sky Elf Game Master lv 20

Out of the list of those casting classes, Bard, Cleric, Oracle, and Summoner are the ones most similar to what we already have in the party (Alis is a bard and a diviner, Priyya a cleric, Lureene a summoner).

Fighter/Ranger: Could certainly clean up in a fight, but fact that BAB, Fort, and HD overlap would rob you of some of the benefits of having a Gestalt. Perhaps increasing the ranger's casting to druid spells at a bard's progression would make up for it.

Fighter/Druid: Full BAB + Full Casting, and lots of handy abilities and movement options for in the Jungle. Just have to mind the armor restrictions and pickup Stealth from somewhere (probably a trait).

Fighter/Alchemist: Don't really anything about the Alchemist at all so I can't really comment.

Fighter/Inquisitor: Roughly 2/3 of the AP as printed is outdoors, but with the amount of homebrew content I've added, I'd say it's closer to a 50/50 split. An inquisitor would certainly have more to do during portions where politics and intrigue are center stage plus they still have survival etc.

Hey Jason,

Just wanted to throw in my 2 cents here. I think the Inquisitor is a very powerful class, and would work well paired with Fighter. I play with an inquisitor in a Legacy of Fire game who is 6th level, and he is very powerful, not to mention a total badass, he he.

I like Laith's idea of an elvish agent sent by Larathiel to assist Alis. If he was a full blooded elf, having to work with a half breed in order to engender tolerance between elves and humans. It would even be better if he did have noble blood, after all Alis is an eligible princess, he he. (OK 'Lis, not the whip....I'll be good from now on...)

The forces of evil are on the move, and we all need to be on the same team, he he.

Just a suggestion, you can do whatever you want. I would probably stay away from tiefling builds as well...it was a nightmare to convert L over IIRC.

Heh, yeah no more tea-flings. God, what a damn PITA! :P

With all that in mind, I'm thinking either Fighter/Druid or Fighter/Inquisitor. If F/D, I'll be focusing on being a melee druid, not so much concerned with spellcasting, as much as wildshaping into a beast and mauling faces.. using spells as buffs mostly.

Inquisitor? I have no idea what to expect with that class, though the concept does sound incredibly intriguing.

What do you recommend as far as those two go?

Male Sky Elf Game Master lv 20

Ben's original build of Malandraenas was a melee-focused Fighter/Druid with one level of barbarian for the fast movement. When he departed a couple weeks ago, I replaced the Fighter levels with Ranger levels and all he lost as a +1 bonus on saves against death spells while gaining sneak attack (non-casting Ranger variant), fave enemy/terrain, etc.

Malandraenas: [ Original | Rebuild ]

It's definitely a solid choice for combat, but I got the impression he was bored during a lot of the RP-heavy more political segments of the game.

A thought occurs to me actually...

If those are your two strongest preferences, we could do what I originally did for Eric. At the start of the game, Eric had Lureene as his main character and Felmor as a back-up/alt. The idea was that he would/could switch between them if desired at a base camp.

If you wanted, you could take control of Mal as the face-ripper (perhaps rebuilding him a bit to suit your tastes), and then stat out a Fighter/Inquisitor. Then you'd have the ability to alternately do both. In fact, here one the island, we've got a major fight coming up probably this weekend. It would be pretty random to have a new character show up in the next 2-3 hours, so maybe you could run Mal for this fight, sort of like trying on a pair of shoes in the store and walking up and down the aisle to see how they feel.

Jason,

That depends on what sort of background you are going to go with. If you are going to be the 'secret agent' sent from Ilmarond, then the F/I build makes perfect sense.

If you are a local Darfurian elf, then the F/D build would be ideal.

Both builds are good ones, I personally think the F/I is slightly better though. At this point, I would decide what BG you want to play with, and then your class choices fit tight in.

I did the same thing with Lureene, her class build is kinda funky, but it is all explained by her BG and her adventures to this point.

Laith's idea of the main/backup character sounds like a great one...

A fight soon...who knew? he he.

Spellcasting Update:
So remember back when we talked about adding some of the house rules from Justin's game like a high casting stat granting bonus spells to spells known and bonus 0th level spells?

Well when I was putting together the character building article last night, I realized I never actually put those on-the-books. I've corrected the oversight. This helps to give the spontaneous casters back a bit of the thunder they lost due to the 'spontaneous preparation' method we use.

The updated rules can be found here:

I'll go with the F/I.. as for background, what races would be best for this?

Male Sky Elf Game Master lv 20

Here are some racial possibilities:

    .
    .
    .
  • Elf: Ilmarond is a kingdom ruled by the Sky Elves, but the other High Elves (moon, sun, and sylvan) are also well-represented there. Note that Sun elves are the standard elves from the CRB, all of the other sub-races have subtle differences such as ability scores or replacing elven magic with favored terrain (forest, mountain, hills, and aquatic would all be appropriate for Ilmarond).
  • Half-Elf: The city of Silverwake, Ilmarond is ruled by Alis and Alexis (currently overseen by a regent in their absence). In an attempt to avoid the stagnation that comes with an insular foreign policy, and to atone for sins of ages past, this city is an attempt at improving racial relations with human and half-elves. While it is not the capital of Ilmarond, it has become its chief trade city with humans. A half-elf hailing from here might admire the fact that the twins are trying to raise their people up in the face of racial purists. (Note that the country of Aramol is pretty much wholly populated by half-elves, King Aramandil is actually named after their first sovereign, King Aram Alquaromdil.)
  • Human: While Alis and Alexis' father was an elven Duke from Ilmarond, their mother was a powerful Countess from Estoria. As such the twins hold titles in that country as well. It could be that your inquisitor was sent as an independent agent by their aunt, Corrina Rowan.
  • Dwarf: Morgaard Hellhammer was an old friend and retainer of Duke Kirmoon, the twin's father. The dwarves of Ortalok enjoy a prosperous trade relationship with both Estoria and Ilmarond. While Morgaard, after the Dungeon Crawl, had to admit to himself that he was starting to get a bit too old to keep up with Alis and needed to look after his own daughter, that's not to say that he might not have mentioned them to other kin. Once word arrived about what happened in Dafar, he would have surely expressed his anxiety about the situation. Given Ortalok's political and economic ties to Ilmarond and Silverwake, they too could have a vested interest in how affairs play out in Dafar.

By default, my choice usually would go toward dwarf first, followed by human, then half elf, and elf last.

I often play humans, so ill cross that off.. And I rarely like playing pure elves, unless I'm playing a wizard, so ill cross that off too..

Dwarf is heartier, but half-elf is more adaptable.. oh the choices... I really like the background of both though.. a lot..

I'm going to go with Dwarf (with Relentles replacing Stability) Fighter/Inquisitor.. I'll have to work out a background, and I'll stat him up tonight.

Cool, sounds good! If you want to control Mal in the upcoming hijinx, just let me know! :)

Well, since Priyya is already trying to kill Alis and Lureene anyway, I guess it can't get much worse... http://www.motifake.com/59972

Now that I'm back home, I'll get to work on my Dwarf Fighter/Inquisitor. I realize I'm going to need to select a deity and a domain.. So, I may need suggestions for those. Also, if it'd be better for you, I can always hold my character back until after the 'hijinx'. I have a stigma against playing someone else's character, so I'm not very comfortable with that (sorry). I have Gods & Magic, so I'll look through the dwarven pantheon, unless you have an alternate pantheon I need to look at (which I'll peruse the wiki for promptly).
And lastly (but not leastly): Thank you all for having me aboard =D
