First, InvisibleCastle.com basically sucks compared to what we have here on Paizo. Making 1 or 2 die rolls on it isn't so bad, but when I've got huge blocks of rolls to make, it's just not feasible whereas that all works just fine here. Also, their registration page isn't sending out activation links, so there's no way I could make use of premium features anyhow.

Second, since we all seem to agree that posting on one site is easier than posting on two, I'm trying to solicit coders to make a dice roller that is up to our needs. I got lots of attitude on the Simple Machine forums, but I like MyBB better anyway, so right now I'm going to try those waters and see if I'm any more successful.

If you guys could have a look at the requirements doc I've posted and see if I'm forgetting anything (particularly in the cheat-prevention department), I'd be appreciative.

As a quick update, here's what's going on...

In addition to my social life having become a LOT busier lately, GMing duties for the Tuesday night crew have been passed back to me now that my friend Nathan has successfully finished running the 1st chapter of Skull & Shackles. While that normally wouldn't be enough to cause me to stop posting, there are some other Rumble-related options I've been weighing.

First off, since the party is about to be split here for [potentially] several months of real time, I realized that I need a better way to keep track of multiple storylines. Even just having the PCs ranging about Port Eldarion in separate groups underscored this (segues are more of a pain in the ass than you might think).

Compounding this is the fact that I tend to get writer's block when my favorite NPCs are off-screen for too long — kinda ruins the storytelling aspect for me.

Anyway, so what I've been contemplating [read: researching, installing, configuring, etc.] is running Rumble in forums that I admin myself. As you may know, I was checking out some freeform PbPs lately that some friends are in and the basic setup they use is to start a new thread for each individual scene with forums dedicated to major separate locales. To keep certain groups from getting too far ahead of others, a timeline thread (similar to our Table of Contents lists) is kept showing the dates and times.

As of right now, I've done a good bit of work setting up and customizing a MyBB installation for this purpose. It supports quick switching between character accounts, RSS, custom BBCodes, spoilers, and a few other features that are missing here on Paizo such as greater liberty in editing our posts and custom avatars.

Link: forum.worldsunknown.com

The one notable feature that's missing, is a top-notch dice roller like we have here on Paizo. Of course, there's no reason we couldn't continue to make rolls here and then simply cross-link them to the relevant post.

I still have a good bit of work left to do ironing out some plot details and maps for the next chapter, but I'd like to hear what you guys think. My thought was that (to start) we might cross-post to both sites so that we can see what kinks arise that need ironing-out. Then, after we feel confident, we might switch over for everything but rolls or whatever else we think works well.

Right now, I still have yet to setup an SMTP server for the forums to send passwords, etc. but I can always send you such details over chat or by email if you want to test things out for yourselves. In the meanwhile, let me know what you think.
Well I hadn't considered it as such, but I've definitely been busy enough to the point where we may as well be.
