I bought two pairs of *pre-owned* Army-issue combat boots (with kevlar toes and shanks, waterproof leather, and aluminum-reinforced soles) about five years ago for $20.00 each. Other than a pair of running shoes, I own no others. Gotta love Army surplus stores.

+1!

I just got done starting a load in the dishwasher, and we're doing some laundry. I hope it warms the house up a bit. We didn't get much snow but our wind chill is below zero. The house furnace is running more than not, and I'm not looking forward to this utility bill.

I'd never read Northanger Abbey before. I really, really, really don't care for Pride and Prejudice. Love the story. Never met a movie of it I didn't at least kind of like. But the book rambled so badly I finally had to resort to audiobook to finish it. But I decided to give Miss Austen another chance and this one I can't seem to put down. It's really good, and full of biting wit. :)

Damn skippy! Each of the three pairs of work shoes I rotate through were expensive, but worth it. I got them at a store call the Bostonian. That chain has some of the best customer service I've ever experienced, and the shoes I buy from them are comfortable, look good, and always last. Hell, the first pair I ever bought from them lasted 10 years!

Scarab Sages

Also, morning folks. Hope most of you have a great day - except for the ones who want more snow.

We didn't get any more snow, but the freezing rain was horrendous. I had salted last night, but I had to redouble the effort when I saw my dog slip down the patio steps. :( Also had to spend my time this morning making sure that the defrost was on full blast and scrape off the ice so she wouldn't have any delay going into work this morning.

Drive safely folks! There'll be amateurs out there. A plethora.

Well, I finally got the complete "Classic Dungeon Set" from Dwarvenforge. I had to spend 1k in total on the set but at least I have it now. Now onto the Cavern or medieval house set within a few months...... maybe (o hell who am I kidding my self control is to poor not too).

Never good when people start sublimating real-life issues at the table. I hope she is able to get everything back on track. Have you spoken to her about this?

Well we got 4 or so inches of snow yesterday, and then sent that storm to combine with the other one that is going to bury all of you east coasters. :) Unfortunately we had to have a plumber in to fix the Bathtub faucet yesterday. One of these days I real need to get the plumbing replaced in the house.

Silver Crusade

We're up in the air on our flight home for today. Naturally, I'm sure we could endure getting stuck an extra day or two in Florida. But the fear is that we could wind up stuck in the Atlanta airport instead for our layover.

So far our airline hasn't put Rochester on the list of airports without weather advisories, even though every other airline has. They're supposed to get 18 inches of snow tonight. Our flight is supposed to land at about 12:30 am. No pilot is going to land a plane at midnight in a blizzard.

I argued with someone at the airline last night trying to get my flight changed at no charge, and they wouldn't do it. Hopefully they update their list sometime today before we head out. If we're stuck in Atlanta, I'm going to be pissed.

Silver Crusade

Anyway, we had a nice day yesterday. We went to the Dali museum, which I highly recommend, although admission is a bit expensive. We also went back to the coast, watched the sun set, etc.

Various forms of freezing precipitation let me go back to bed this morning. YES!

CH: Going back to FL is definitely on my list. Glad you had such a great time.

Cold without snow is just lame.

Saturday it was 65 degrees plus. Today? Negative 8. We were supposed to get all this snow, too. Did we? Maybe a half inch.

Negative 8 is cold. "Feels like" is even colder.

Spoiler:
Negative 30

Had an ultrasound this morning on baby Charlie:

We're at 36.2 weeks and they estimate his weight to be 9 lb 4 oz, give or take 1/2 lb to 1 lb. So, either way, he's already over 8 lbs, with a few more weeks to go.

Every time I mention this my wife just whimpers a bit. Not sure why.... :)

I have recently gotten into dragonfirelaser design's wooden tile series- just one set of their monster tiles COMPLETELY transformed my game, I am getting their spell tents(which are still 3.5 version, but that's okay, some tape and paper[or hell, just an index card] will help me convert what needs to be converted to Pathfinder), and after they arrive I am getting their terrain sets, and then I'll be completely set. I'll put pictures up on my flickr or whatever the hell it is I use for pictures.

Illness is pretty common out here -- and I blame the change in temperature. I grew up in Chicago area and was hardly ever sick. Here? I will typically get sick twice a year. Generally speaking, though, it's a nice place to live.

People visiting us ask us how they should pack. It's not too uncommon for it to snow as late as June and as early as August. At the same time, it's not too uncommon to find people playing football in shorts and t-shirts on Christmas.

I'm definitely convinced now to play a beguiler whisper gnome, but I feel the need to dip one level into Fighter to pick up a spare feat and the armor / weapon proficiencies. We're using the Flaw variant in UA to pick up more feats, so if I'm statting this bad boy at CL 8, that'll give me six to grab.

Combat Expertise and Improved Feint seems a must. Combat Casting? I recall Jess mentioning Arcane Thesis, but what spell would that be tied into? That would leave a slot remaining for a Metamagic Feat (aside from the free Silent Spell you're given), I suppose. And something else to spend on. Hm....

Looking like I'm picking up the Extra Silence to get a 4/day spell-like ability and if I'm going to Feint, it wouldn't hurt to get a Skill Focus (Bluff) going.

This only works if you're going into shadowcraft mage:

take arcane thesis (silent image) and heighten spell. Then you can turn that one spell into any shadow evocation or conjuration spells at any level, and you can arcane thesis it. :D

Disclaimer: I haven't looked at 3.5 in over 2 years, and I played the character that was going for this over 3 years ago. I usually don't do this sort of thing, but the DM kept complaining about how monks were too strong and he took away some of their abilities, while he talked about how weak all casters were. I...got a little annoyed...
