I don't know the situation, but more than likely the little girl will be scared and unsettled with the change in her life. Acting unsure or nervous will be reflected tenfold by her.
Children need love, attention and structure. Don't make the mistake of thinking she is a very short adult. Children are their own species. She will be doing totally illogical things, but that is how she learns the logical things. Keep a patient mien and an open heart and you will do fine =)
Good luck my friend.
+1 to everything Patrick said. And never show fear. They can sense fear.
And if you don't know the answer to a question - lie! Kinda like when my wife got a really short hair cut and asked me what I thought.
Edit: Also - Keep them away from a TV, since TV rots brainnnnsss and therefore reduces my food supply.

Thanks all for the responses, still freaked the hell out though. Gah I must be one of the only gay men in the world who ended up with a child unintentionally. But family is family and it is my niece after all.

Count me amazed. We ended up with one of the most interesting Roleplaying situations from our last session that is being taken care of online now, and it came out of what appeared to be just a little throw away. I wonder how a party of mostly good aligned characters is going to react to one of their own being a murderer...
Be thankful that your group would realize the impact of this. The group I've taken a recent break with would rationalize it to 'death' that it wasn't 'murder'. Should call it Lawyers and Lollygaggers.

+2 with some extra sauce...
Be prepared to be stressed and amazed at the very same time. And tired. 2 year olds are the epitome of energizer bunnies. I miss my kids being little. Knowing what I do now I woulda been a much better parent.
And you will be 'wrong' at times, but children move past things much better than we adults do. Kids are sponges, and if you're full of love they will respond in kind. Just with extra hot sauce! So much energy. ;)

Lived through the storms, lost electrical, kids played Skipbo and Uno by flashlight with the wife. Power came back on a couple of hours later but my router decided to give up the ghost. I will try reseting it later and see what can be done. Tornado's passed south of us. Not sure if any actually touched down.

Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood morning Fawlty HOUSE!!!
Took a nice long leisurely shave with the straight razor today. Damn it feels so smooth. presses face against computer screen Come on. Feel.
Got a meeting at the second job tonight which means I'm probably going to miss the weekly game. It sucks, but thems the breaks. I'll be meeting my new boss tonight, so here's hoping I make a good first impression.
Also, picked up the next issue of Tales of the Dragon Guard yesterday. Damn but that comic is good. I may just get into french comics as a result of this...I did NOT expect it to be THIS good. An all-female, all-virgin army against the dragons and the effects they have on the world. And it's NOT cheesecakey. You'd think that would be a requirement for me(it usually is- I'm quite disappointed with the change in the Power Girl staff/storyline), but it's just a kickass story. ANd it's good to see some muscular women who are NOT supermodels for a change.
And..well..that's about it. Here's hoping the day is full of adventure!

You. When I was on the bike day before last, listening to the podcast, I thought, oh no, S----'s going to say it. Oh, he said it! And then saw the response last night. Hee.
Edit: Hmm...both are pretty dry...

Hand cramps everybody.
Well, RP essentially ended last night on a different note. We had bandit prisoners in the last session and they had two leaders we also captured. Apparently, the leaders were an item and very in love.
We interrogated them both but didn't let the others know that the other was still alive. The male leader swore a vendetta against us if we had hurt his girlfriend. We managed to get him to calm down after we let him know that she was still alive and that we didn't plan on harming either of them if they cooperated with us.
So one character, our sorceress Bella, let slip some of the illegal activities we'd done while trying to convince the girlfriend. Realizing what she'd done could endanger everyone, she attacked and killed the girlfriend and ended up having to RP through becoming a murderer.
Knowing the bandit leader will swear vendetta, and that he might know the location of our hidden base and reveal it to our enemies if we keep him alive and he escapes or we release him, my character has decided that he must die as well and is currently on his way to go and execute him. That was the last update...
...I am itching to see what happens.

Me too! Apparently everyone is content to let him walk out the door and do the deed. :-()
And hand cramps to you all!
Justin - where in MN are you? We seem to be getting a MN contingent here.
