I've heard that a lot from the circles I frequent who's familiar with both.

Any specific reason?

I have never been to Origins, but GenCon is just so huge and there is so much to do that you are always finding new things to do or try I used to go all the time when it was in Milwaukee). Although GenCon is a little overwhelming the first time you go. It dos really help to hang out with someone who has been there before.

Depending on expenses, my lady has a cousin that's due to get married in October in San Diego. I've already pre-warned her that there'll be some people I'd like to get a bite to eat with if we do end up going.
Regardless of online perception, I'm actually very easy to deal with in person.

WAY more games, tho harder to get at some tables. WAY more vendors, with WAY more merch. WAY more support from the gaming industry. You can't be bored. The venue is more active too, with lots of local stuff nearby.
The prices of the two are similar. More bang for the buck at GenCon. The guys I went with had been to Origins before, and commented on how it had shrunk over the years. It was fun, but GenCon was WOW.

And before I depart for the night, I would leave you this for your ammusment.
Shackles of Willing Submission
These delicate silver shackles are joined together with a slender chain 3 foot long.
The shackles can only be placed on a willing subject, once placed about the subjects wrist it causes the wearer to become very obediant. All verbal request are treated as a Suggestion, no save is allowed. Note that ALL verbal request, by ANYONE who speaks to the wearer are affected.
Cost: Priceless. ;)
Remember these?

What Justin said, but I get the impression that it's more 'wargaming' (i.e. Battletech) versus 'role playing' at Origins.

Doesn't one of your relatives' laptops need a "reconfiguration"? That'll lead to it. *cough*

I want to be ... Captain Adventure! /throws_on_cape_fastened_by_safetypin
That and I'd probably die of alcohol poisoning if I hung out with N'wah. But the evening would be glorious! :P
Finally, I think my girl would have serious issues if I went to Seattle ... and she did not ... and she's has 0% gamer in her ... and would be bored to tears. Which makes it difficult for me.
So I'd have a better chance of heading out your way again. And besides, you guys were great hosts to me. I know Woody, Taig, Sharoth, and Shiny were willing to let me crash back at their awesome suite on a bed for free and I'm sure it'd been ten times more comfortable for me than the couch ... and that you guys are both smokers ... but I had a great time couch surfing those four overnights with you guys. Again, thanks for having me. =)
+1
Mine barely makes it through our local comiccon. I couldn't imagine what it would be like at paizocon.
So much blood.......

I'm totally playing a paladin if and when we play in person again. :)
I guess Moorluck's revenge plan has been a"bate"d since he won't be at PaizoCon.
Which reminds me ... when yesterday was the first time I've played Pathfinder again since Myrtle Beach, I happen to come across this character's sheet inside the core book. He took an awful turn toward death that evening, I recall. :P

I kid, but it has been slow.
I'm hanging in there. There's a lot of weird and tragic stuff happening to friends and family around me, but hopefully I'll be working again next month. Of course I may just be setting myself up for disappointment by being insufficiently cynical. ;)

Married life is no different. I guess we're a bit more tight with our money. We looked at our long-term future and decided being in debt is a bad idea. Only $8-ish grand more to go!! But other than that, when we did the wedding , it was more of a formality.
Health....is okay. I have a doctor appointment on February 8th. They want to look at my brain and see if it's healthy (No Aberzombie) enough for me to run some tests.
