That maybe true up to a point. Cash had a lot longer to influence music. I think time will tell if he did or did not have a much wider range of influence on music since his legacy is just now in fruition and Elvis has been passed for a much longer time.

None of which matters to the question of who is or has been more influential so far. Some nobody that we have never heard of my take the music scene by storm next year revolutionizing all genres of music as we know them. But that doesn't matter. We really can't have a conversation beyond who has had more impact up to this time.

Influential artists off the top of my head: Coltrane, Miles Davis, Armstrong, Ella, Frank Sinatra...all seminal and a pleasure to listen to.

The recording / broadcasting room for the radio station I work for is basically a closet, off of another bigger room in the basement of the student center here at Syracuse University.
Today, I find out not an hour and a half before my show that a visiting musician, DJ Aoki, is using said larger room as his DRESSING ROOM, and I won't be able to get in until basically when my show starts. No prep work.
I've been able to bully the door-people into letting me into my own f&~*ing booth at quarter to eleven, but it'll still be a tight squeeze. God f&~*ing damn it.
How'd it turn out?

And no, I teach my kids to go for the groin. Like my daddy, God rest his soul, taught me "If a fight last longer than 30 seconds, you lost."<shudder> I had that lesson drilled into my head on a daily basis growing up. Seriously, my dad insisted on giving me lessons on how to fight. More specifically how to fight so the other guy never gets a chance to throw a punch. Something about if you're going to get into fights with the boys at school you're at least gonna learn how to do it right. :/
My sisters, bless them, can't throw a punch, change a tire, or swing a hammer, but for some reason dad thought it was vitally important that I learn all of these things. Parents are weird. :)
I got the whole "nonviolence is a virtue" lesson drilled into me. It never seemed to stick, though, and I had to make it up as I went along. I still prefer the 'grab other guy's neck and ram his face into your forehead' and 'fake a punch, then headbutt face/kick groin' moves myself.
