I'm trying to get a different take on what people feel is "moral" and where it becomes more "moral" to force it on others. Something that a lot of people kind of bring up but don't really address -- at least not clearly.

I have to disagree with you on a small point here, Moff.

I don't think it is hard to figure out at all. :) The new poster entered the discussion without intending to discuss anything but rather with the intention of telling everyone how wrong they were.

Yeah. Thanks. I thought I'd try to get him to learn what a "conversation" or "discussion" actually looked like. You'd think I'd learn.

You haven't been hanging out in the Civil Religious Discussion for quite a while. You've been missed.

I kind of miss it too. Dirk Gently says he's going to be back on the boards starting soon (after a two-year hiatus), so we could probably start tag-teaming it again.

Where in the CRD is the conversation? I'd like to take a read.

Here you go.

I think I misunderstood what you asked...

Yeah, and that's why I haven't even poked my head in that thread in forever. It's just not worth it.

I swear to all that's holy, I can't even watch crime dramas anymore. I don't know if it was because I grew up addicted to Encyclopedia Brown, then The Hardy Boys, then Sherlock Holmes and Agatha Christie; but I figure EVERYTHING out before the shows from the slightest hint of a clue.

Either that or the writers are extremely lazy anymore.

Lazy writers, which is why when something is even halfway unique people love it, even if it is crap.

I miss Encyclopedia Brown.

Wow! Encyclopedia Brown is still being sold! I wonder if you can still get the Great Brain books.

Edit - Yep! You can still get them.

Edit II - And the Three Investigators as well.

I'm great, I just got back from a really fun game session where we killed a bunch of goblins in the bad part of town. We were also solicitied by a prostitute, and despite protests <line deleted> and that's how we ended up with a bunch of whetstones.

I had thought it might be the weather, as we have been experiencing somewhat warm days with gloriously cool nights. While I love the cooler temperatures, the fluctuation always seems to throw me off.

And all this talk of crackers has awakened a craving for some clam chowder. I think I might go fix myself some delicious soup.

After experiencing it first hand in Boston back in July '07, I can no longer eat any of it here in Ohio. Other than assuming it's a fresh catch of the day, the chowdah here doesn't come close to compare.

What is the book about? Sounds interesting.

~groans~ I do not remember. I know that I liked it enough to pull that quote and read it a second time. HOWEVER, you are talking about something that I read over 15 years ago. My suggestion is to see if the local library can do an inter-library loan to get it for you.

Edit - Here is the Amazon.com listing for the book.

Huh. That one will probably go on my list of books to read in the near future. Thanks.

Ditto. Tossed that onto my wish list as well.

Highly worth it. $9 a month, you get 1 DVD delivered and unlimited watching on your PC or Game Consule. Add in the fact that they have a LOT of TV shows up for instant viewing and it beats the cost of buying/renting anywhere else.
I must admit, due to my luddite ways, I originally loathed the idea of netflix. Now that the wife has gotten me hooked on the Tudors, I have to say I love it. Netflix forever, Blockbuster(Gulp!) never! Especially since they closed down the one near my house. I really need to set Blockbuster straight.

Are there any other luddite traditions crumbling at a forum near us?

~shrugs~ I will pick it up eventually, if only to add it to my collection. The article said that the storyline will only be about 15 hours long. In that case, I would have to wait until the price wend down. Way down. Besides, I will probably still be playing Fallout - New Vegas or Fable III.

Edit - Or one of the other games that I have in my collection that I have barely touched.

You can't get blood from a stone, man! He's not there to debate, he's there because he's pissed at organized religon for some past wrong. The thing is, I can see where he's coming from, and I've heard his points argued(albeit more courteously) before- some of it can be quite fascinating. But like I said, he's not there to debate. What keeps me sane with such posters in such topics is the old saying about the broken, stopped clock. A stopped one is right twice a day, and as since it can't be repaired, you should leave it alone. Because if you try to fix it, due to its irreprable nature, it will be wrong all the time and you'll be frustrated. Or something like that. I think it's a rhyme in another language, I have to look it up sometime.

I don't know about this one...Such writings have spoiled an entire genre/generation of readers by having them constantly wonder ahead or search for spoilers or conditioning them to look for errors. Particularly the Hardy Boys(I preferred Nancy Drew for some reason). Most things are written in a way that follow a natural, logical progression, it's not necessarily laziness, stupidity or intelligence. Sometimes you've just seen it all before and just know what's coming before it arrives. It is equal parts burden and joy.
