Question about creating Intelligent magic items

Rules Questions

I wizard with craft magic item and inhave never done this before
Our rogue requested a crown that can cast 1st lvl spells on herself, basically sheild and true strike
her reason is she needs help when fighting the BBEG with high AC and high to hit

base cost is 500
plus 1200 to cast 1st lvl spells 3 x a day
I assume this means the same spells, not pick any you want at the time
so to be able to add a 2nd spell I would have to add the ability again
but at what cost?
Another 1200 or double that?
The rules are not clear in that section regarding items with multiple abilities

or would it be better to make 2 separate item each with a different ability

also items have alignment too
do I pick the alignment or is it random?

If she has 2 intelligent items, will they " get along"
or is that up to the DM?

Alright... *stretches and pulls some books out*

You want to make an intelligent item to cast shield and true strike on the wearer.

First, make sure it's ok with your DM. A lot of them won't allow players to make intelligent magic items. If your dm is ok with it, then we're looking at page 533 and on.

First off, alignment. The alignment of the intelligent item will be the same as the crafter. Which means you. If your friends have a different alignment than you, you probably shouldn't make intelligent items for them.

If someone whose alignment doesn't correspond to that of the item tries to even pick it up, they gain one negative level until they put the item down.

So check the alignment of the item, compare it to the items alignment using table 15-21 on page 533 to see if they match.

Ability scores:

Keeping these at 10 leaves you without a price adjustment.

Languages: Just common

Senses and Communication:
Leaving the item at empathy means no price modification there.

Intelligent item powers:

You've got a bit of an issue here. Having the intelligent item cast true strike means that the item gains the benefit of true strike. You'll need to make sure with your dm that your intelligent item can cast target:you spells on the wearer, but if (s)he's allowing intelligent items it shouldn't be a problem.

Since you need two 1st lvl spells, you're looking at:
1200 for shield with a +1 ego modifier

and

1200 for true strike with a +1 ego modifier

Special Purpose Items:

You don't have to give the item a special purpose. Might be fun to put in a special purpose just to mess with your friend.

Dedicated powers:

Probably won't come into play here.

Item Ego:

You've got +2 from the spells, and a base item cost of 1200+1200+500=2900, which means one more +1 ego.

Total of +3 ego.

Any time the wearer performs an action that goes against the item's alignment, (s)he must make a will save DC 3 or be under the control of the item as per page 535.

Also, intelligent items don't like to share a person. If a person has more than one intelligent item, the items will constantly try to get the wielder to destroy or leave the other items even if they share an alignment and were made by the same person. So it's not generally a good idea to stock up on intelligent items :D

The only thing I'm finding absent is the caster level stuff. As per the book, "The caster level for these effects is equal to the item's caster level."

Which is either the caster level to create, or the caster level required for the abilities. So, either way you're looking at a low, low caster level, CL 1st *though you'd actually need to have the craft wondrous items feat, so your actual level would be higher*

The drawback here is that shield would only last for a minute per use.

So, recap, item costs 2900 gold. The item has 10's for stats, and can only communicate through emotions and urges. It is only aware for 30 ft around itself. It has an ego of 3. Its alignment is always the same as the creator, which means your alignment, and bestows a negative level on folks without a corresponding alignment. It can cast shield 3/day. It can cast true strike 3/day.*assuming your dm allows it to affect the wearer* It's caster level is one, which means it'll be super easy to suppress this item with a dispel magic.
