Looking for DM for player advanced game

Gamer Connection

Hey all I am looking for a willing DM to run a PBP campaign for me.

I have a character Idea for a game, the problem is it won't work if I just throw it into a premade campaign setting.

My basic concept is a wizard -> Sandshaper prestige class that is trying to resurrect the ancient kingdoms of the sandshapers in a egypt/middle eastern setting. There would of course be plenty of time for side quests and I wouldn't want my character to have a "plot shield" so that he couldn't die. But my goal for the campaign would be for him to end up emperor of the desert with an entire people to rule/subjugate depending on how the campaign went or something grandiose like that.

Bump :/ no one is even slightly interested?

Maybe you should consider the 4E setting Dark Sun. It's a remake of a 2E one I think but I hear good things. A desert themed character would fit well.

The setting would be entirely up to the DM that chose to run it, as long as it took place at least part and/or most of the time in the desert. I would prefer 3.5 or pathfinder setting just because I do not have (or have access to) the 4th E books.

One of my PbP died on me, so if you are willing, I can see what I can come up with.

Awesome, you are my new hero! Seriously, you have just made my day.

So how do you want to do this, starting levels and such? would you like me to send my preliminary character idea over to you? Just tell me what you want/need to know.

Well, let me ask you what level do you want to start at? And also are you ok with 3.5 or Pathfinder? I need to see what desert stuff I have to look at, and then I will probably pick a setting, like, well I need to look what I have.

Go ahead and shoot me a character concept and please include as much BG stuff as you think I need, then that should be enough to get the ball rolling.

All right this may be a long one.

here is my more in depth character concept first:

I don't know if you are familiar with the Sandstorm book but this is where the Sandshaper prestige class comes from. I imagine something similar to an ancient Egyptian civilization with pyramids and huge cities that has all but died out (or perhaps has all died out?) the ruins of their civilization would dot the land and be hidden beneath the shifting sands of the desert revealed only rarely by the winds and sandstorms to perhaps give up a rare artifact of the once great empire.

now for the character itself I have a few origin ideas, you could pick the one that you find most agreeable/fun, I will now present them in no particular order.

1. My character was a minor prince in the great empire who was killed and entombed with a prophecy stating that he would live again at a time of the empires greatest need, apparently something went wrong however since the empire is now nothing but dust and he awoke in the ruins of a temple crypt in the middle of a half buried city hundreds of years later...

2. My character was a member of a small nomadic tribe (of a couple hundred people or so) that (though they do not know it) is the last remnant of the once mighty sandshapers. While out gathering food and supplies one day he is caught in a sandstorm and just when he thinks he is going to die he is visited by one of the old gods in a vision and told that he will strike out from his people and grow strong to create a new sandshaper empire that will once again stretch across the wastes...

if you don't like either of these or you like one but want to change it to suit whatever idea you have let me know and ill think up something else.

As for character level I usually have the most fun starting off at first level and developing the character from there through the story. 3.5 or pathfinder would be most agreeable I really dont have a preference tho pathfinder is a little bit more streamlined and hit point friendly.

I will post a detailed background for the character once I get some feedback from you from this post

Well, looking at both concepts, if you start out with option one, you are by yourself, and basically have no support. Very challenging, but risky. Option two is easier for you because you have some NPCs who could be helpful for you, I could go either way with this. If you want to start at level 1 that is fine, although I may give you extar gear to compensate for your lack of support.

I will check out the Sand shaper PrC and see about coming up with a map of some kind, either in the ruins, or wilderness as the case may be.

personally I think that the first one would be the most fun to start out with, the role playing for finding out that a few hundred years have past and my people are no more could be quite entertaining.

however the second would be easier to lead into. Like I said the choice is yours unless you would like me to choose

It is your call, depends on what you want to do.

The Post Monster strikes again.

Get into the habit of copying (cntrl-c) any large post you make on these forums before posting it, it will save you a lot of pain and misery if you learn to do this early. Doubly so when creating your characters stat block on here.

If you have firefox get an add-on called Lazarus. You'll never lose a post again.

Race: Human Lv1 Ranger (yes that is supposed to be lv1 Ranger, im multiclassing to wizard at second level) Lawful Neutral (but he follows his own set of laws not "societies"

Alternate Class feature:
Arcane Hunter pg 32 complete mage = Rangers learn to track and hunt creatures of a certain type when choosing a favored enemy. Some rangers concern themselves less with what a creature is, and more with what it does. These rangers learn to identify signs of the arcane and make it their business to combat those who use arcane magic in opposition to their goals.
Class: Ranger.
Level: 1st.
Special Requirement: Knowledge (arcana) 1 rank.
Replaces: At 1st level, you do not select a favored enemy. At 5th, 10th, 15th, and 20th level, you can choose favored enemies as normal.
Benefit: At 1st level, you gain favored enemy (arcanists). This feature works just like the favored enemy ability. The bonuses granted apply to any character capable of casting arcane spells or using invocations (but not other spell-like abilities).

Favored Class: Wizard
Specialist school: Evocation
Prohibited schools: Illusion, Transmutation

Feats:
Improved Initiative= +4 to initiative
Sand Skimmer= You treat shallow sand as normal terrain and deep sand as shallow sand. Sand crust does not break beneath your feet, allowing you to move atop it as if it were normal terrain. (I don't know if you use difficult terrain n such, if you don't really pay attention to it then this feat will be changing as there really wouldn't be much use for it)

Background:
Icarus Ras'Drexel was one of may sons of the God King of the Sandshaper Empire. As such there was much competition between them to see who would be next in line to be King, it was not uncommon for one to simply disappear. Growing up Icarus had the finest tutors in arcane theory, archery, swordsmanship, and any number of other interests that he had. He wanted for nothing and excelled at much.
He was not as ambitious as some of his brothers and as such was often left to do his own thing, at a young age he joined the military and quickly rose through the ranks While part of its ranks he received basic survival training as well as tracking training (improved initiative, sand skimmer, track, wild empathy) he also joined a group that specialized in taking out enemy mages for a while and learned a bit from them (arcane hunter). After he became an officer he lead a series of battles that quickly expanded the empire and became quite well renown, rumors began to spread of a prophecy that he would one day become king of the entire empire as well as the most powerful Sandshaper the world has ever seen. His brothers thinking that this was a bid for the throne threw a huge banquet for him when he returned from his campaign, planning to have him killed during the revelry. The plot was carried out and as the body was being taken to be deposed of a small coalition of men loyal to Icarus ambushed the assassins and stole the body secreting it away to the catacombs of a hidden temple casting spells to preserve the body so that it could be resurrected. Later as they were going through the rituals to revive him they were attacked by more of his brothers men who had found their hiding place. in the ensuing battle all Icarus' men were killed and the catacombs were collapsed leaving Icarus buried and forgotten the spells that were woven about him unfinished.
Now, hundreds of years later, the Sandshaper empire nothing but small nomadic bands that wander about telling tails of a once great empire and ruins dotting the landscape or buried under the sand occasionally appearing long enough to give up an ancient relic of a bygone era, the ancient spells woven around Icarus' preserved corpse react to... something, bright lights flash and magic flows. suddenly the roof blows off the catacomb allowing light in for the first time in centuries, and Icarus sits up blinking in the sudden light...

I think that was a bit longer the second time then the first, If you have some questions or want to change something just let me know.

Oh and thanks for the advice about the posts :)

Ok thanks for the update on the BG. This gives me a lot to work with, he he. Go ahead and generate your character now, PF 28 point buy, and you will get 3rd level gear, including magic items. Consider this parting gifts for the prodigal son, he he.

BTW when you wake up, your primary issues will be hunger and thirst, so keep that in mind, he he.

Please post your final character on this thread, and once I generate a catacomb for you to explore, I will post a thread in the IC forum.

Alright sounds like a plan, I will probably have the character up some time today, probably this after noon, I have most of the character made just need to plug in skills and stats + equipment

here is the character, just peruse his profile and equipment and what not
I figure most of the equipment is either things that he had on him to start with (i.e. necklace of fireballs, weapons) or found in the room that he was in (i.e. replenishing skin, filter masks, Ironthorn extract)

The equipment listed under sandstorm is of course from that book and the stuff under PHB is from the pathfinder book

Thanks for the character info, Dementia.

A couple of requests, could you please include your background for Icarus, and Spoiler it, same for your Sandstorm equipment. It will make it easier for me to track info from your char profile.

Ok, everything else looks good, I will say the equipment was buried with you, and you are able to equip yourself immediately on awakening. Let me finish my brainstorming session, and I will post the IC thread probably around Sunday or Monday at the latest.

Feel free to post here with your character goals or any other tidbits you have. Remember, it is just you driving this so the more you can give me the better it will be. Of course that doesn't mean things won't be twisted, DM's perogative, he he.

Looks like a pretty cool game idea. Good luck you two.

As long as I'm here I should probably tell Eric...:
That I posted in my Campaign Invitation thread with links he'll want

I dont know if you noticed but I haven't filled in languages yet

I know so far that I will include Draconic, Ignan, Auran, and Terran but I need my "default" language as well. I was wondering since normally humans speak common as default what I should put there since there would be some sort of linguistic drift over a few hundred years...

And gods, what gods are we going to be running in this campaign?

Write in Ancient Common as your default tongue, since you have not run into any modern folks yet, you will find out just how easy it will be to communicate, or not, he he.

Dementia Walker wrote:

Use the Golarion and also the Sandstorm gods for now.

As for goals I just awoke from being dead for a few centuries, I imagine it may take me a little bit to figure that out and come to terms with it.

my last memories are of being ambushed at the banquet so I imagine my first goals will be be to get revenge on my brothers, then once I find that that isnt possible it will be to

1 survive
2 find a human settlement and find out the state of the world
2.5 discover how I fit into it
3 gain some funds
4 gather a power base (a few allies and what not)
5 gain magical/physical power

there will be more as I discover what is going on and how this setting is going to play

I have updated him the rest of the way with background, languages and religions (Abadar, is pretty much perfect for him lol god of cities, taming the wilderness, money, and upperclass? if he controlled magic too it would be a match made in heaven)

DW, I have not forgotten you, I will start a new thread in the IC forum on Monday. Just get ready to have some fun, he he.

just let me know when you post it
