We use the "times symbol" mathematical character for things like x2 and x3 crit modifiers. Unfortunately, for some reason Microsoft Word and Excel can't handle that character (it shows up as an underscore, or a diamond, or something else). Our text editor handles it fine, our mail program handles it fine, browsers handle it fine, but Microsoft products choke on it, and importing the text from Word (like when we pull it into layout) carries over the wrong character.
So we put a [TS] in its place to represent "times symbol," and when the book is in layout (in Adobe InDesign/InCopy) we manually change it to the actual times symbol. Looks like we missed one.
