Re: the movie ninja assassin. Need help stating a weapon out

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

Sorry...deleted the original thread. Thank you lyingbastard for commenting. Can you repost your comment on this thread?

I did some research and found out the chain-knife used in the movie, "ninja assassin" is called either kyoketshu-sogei or kusari-gama. I would like to create that weapon for this new campaign I am going to be playin in. I need help with its stats, before I present to the GM.

I was thinking of the following:

Exotic 2 handed weapon, monk's would be proficient in it.

Damage: either 1d4 or 1d6

Damage type: S/B

Special: reach 10?, trip?, disarm?

Description: also called "chain-sickle", the kusari-gama is a kama with a chain attached to the handle and a weighted iron ball at the other end of the chain. It can be used close range or at a distance. Traditonal tactics entails swinging the weighted iron ball around target's legs or weapon, then rushing forward and attacking with sickle. One can also strike at a distance with the sickle but swinging blade end at target while holding onto the weighted iron ball.

I typed up the description pretty quickly, I'll revise it later so it is less wordy and more detailed.

Any positive/negative feedback would be appreciated.

I was thinking it's a perfectly reasonable weapon and a good addition.

1d4, (x3), reach 10', Slashing / Bludgeoning, trip, disarm, monk is a good stat line.

To use as a double weapon would require an exotic weapon proficiency - just like using a dwarven urgosh or Orc double-axe as a single weapon is one proficiency, using them as a double-weapon is an exotic. As a double weapon, I'd say 1d4 / 1d4.

LyingB: flurry of blows, but only if you are adjacent?

I don't have anything to add re: your rules, but could resist stopping by and saying how much I loved the cheese-fest that was Ninja Assassin, and it's star; Rain. I saw it twice. :)

Peace,

Hell yeah! Awesome movie!

The Kusari-Gama is in 3.5 Dungeon Master's Guide, page 145 table 5-3 Asian Weapons. Its a light weapon with a 10ft. reach that can be used to strike adjacent foes at no penalty and deals 1d6/X2 slashing.

I don't think it would need any arrengments, like the one done to the Spiked Chain, because its certainly weaker than the 3.5 spiked.

Thanks for the info!

Does it have trip and disarm as well?

You are welcome.

No, it doesn't.

Oriental Adventures (3.0) also had the Kusari Gama, essentially the same stats as DMG, but it DID allow tripping, but not disarming, IIRC. You also had to decide if you were using it as a reach or regular weapon at the start of each round, you were unable to trip @10', then 5'step and attack with the ball end. But it could be used as a double weapon, or with TWF.
