It should be very easy to add especially "kingdom wide" changes, as these are just calculated as part of the "Kingdom" sheet.
Calculations are in the hidden columns "F to S". These calculate the "totals" per resource. These are then totalled per type (economy, loyalty, etc) in the "D4", "D6", "D8" and "D10" cells.
As the Overall sheet gets its information from the "Kingdom" sheet, no changes to that sheet should be necessary.
Building changes are far more work, as the building stats are in each of the individual city sheets (hidden in the columns to the right of the cells used to fill in the number of buildings.
I haven't made any recent updates to the "generic" sheet, as I have taken my campaign into a direction which required quite some alternative rules for a more "pastoral/wild" kingdom, requiring specific updates to the sheet.....

This is the guy that made the sheets. Do as he says.

Another question- I haven't changed anything (yet), just plugging in numbers to see how the sheet works. Am I correct that it does not calculate the BP cost of buildings? I see a "Treasury" box, but that doesn't seem to auto-calc when I increase the number of a building. And when I open up the hidden columns, I don't see anything about prices of buildings. Again, not complaining, I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything. Thanks.

The BP box has to be adjusted manually. The program only tells you the price of the buildings.

What's the latest version of the sheet, and is there a Google Docs version? :D
The version in the link is the latest version, and the file can be opened with Open Office(a free program that duplicates the Microsoft Office Suite). I can get you a link to the site if you need it. I have been using it for over a year now so I know it is safe.

I continue to fiddle with the sheet to make some changes, and the more I fiddle, the more I love this thing. Great job everyone who's had a hand in creating this Excel sheet.
Some things I've done:
• changed the Econ/Stab/Loy bonuses and gp values for a few buildings;
• added logging camps and mines to the kingdom page;
• changed the Econ/Stab/Loy bonuses for a few rulers;
• doubled the Consumption cost of kingdom hexes in the winter and added a seasonal bonus for Granaries. (This one is my favorite - I added a pull-down calendar to the Overall page, then an IF/THEN cell next to it that returns the appropriate season. In the Consumption line, I made the "Size" box an IF "winter" cell that multiples x2. I did the same thing to the Granaries in the city pages, so they return x2 IF "winter". Took me a while to figure it out, but that's why I like playing with Excel - I totally feel smarter for having been able to pull it off!)
NEW QUESTION:
We've already established that BP/Treasury does not auto-calc. How about Unrest? The main white Unrest cell is white/manual-fill. I kept looking at the gray "Unr incr." cell but it never changed; then I realized it only reflects Unrest caused by leadership vacancies. I guess with all the die rolling it'd be hard to automate. Still I'd love something that just showed me the total from buildings.

Another question (hope I'm not annoying you guys...)
As I said, I've modified a few building values. I realized, though, as we were playing that the little little yellow boxes that pop up as you select cells in the City worksheets are based on text, not the values in the building matrix. Where can I find the text those boxes draw on to edit them?
And what are they called in Excel parlance - call outs? pop ups?
Thanks

Just want to say thinks for this! I was beginning to work on one for my own use, then remembered to look on here first, and am glad I did - this is WAY better than anything I would have taken the time to do.
Majuba |
And what are they called in Excel parlance - call outs? pop ups?
I haven't looked at the sheet in a while, but you're probably referring to Comments (if these are fixed text that shows when you hover over the cell), or Data Validations (if it gives you a message based on what you have entered in the cell).

I can't seem to figure out where the events are located/hidden on the sheet. Not the brightest with excel, but it is a list. Just can't find where the "events" list is so I can edit it.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
BTW this sheet has been awesome, 26 turns into kingdom rule and still going strong with it!!!!!
Zoetrope |

As stated by Majuba, the pop-up text is the input message which can be found/edited in Data Validation under the Data toolbar.

There are hidden worksheets including the Drop Down lists. Right click on any one of the tabs and select Unhide to be shown a list of all the hidden sheets.
Similarly there is a lot of hidden data/calcs on some of the sheets, such as the city sheets. Again, just unhide them to see what's there.

Following on from Berhagen's original spreadsheet, I've made some modificaitons of my own, including:
- Random Event Generator
- Basic Weather Generator
- Additional Building/Resource Options
- Basic city map functionality
- Glorious Technicolor (not for the faint-hearted!)
If anyone wants the file, it can be downloaded from here.
Feel free to take or leave it as you please! Comments/suggestions welcome.
Cheers,

i needed a new kingdom tracker as the one i was using by r-kelleg stopped working for me :( one feature i liked on his was the PC/NPC chart, you could enter in pc's and npc's stats and then select them on the kingdom page and it would auto fill there stats after you selected the appropriate ability. is anyone skilled enough with excel to add in a feature like that into this excel sheet? i would really appreciate it as my players are just getting started and change roles often as they haven't settled in. I have no understanding how to code excel and my players got really sad when the sheets stopped working :(
if your not familiar with r-kellegs sheet you can view it here.

Trying to add a second district on to city 1. How do I do that?
Another district counts as another city for the purposes of pricing and everything else. This was said by James somewhere on the boards.
At the bottom of the excel sheet you should be able to right-click on a tab and create a new city. The new city for you will be the new district.RunebladeX |
starting to finally get used to your sheet berhagen.
i guess the pc sheet isn't a biggie, it was just a convenient feature. I've added a the PC chart to your excel though just for referance sake sake players can atleast have a list of NPC/pc stats and some descriptions of the characters. also like how i can change text color and background cell color without changing or erasing the code, one things the other sheet wouldn't let me do.
one thing i've noticed i keep forgetting to change is kingdom size. It seems control DC will only reflect the kingdom size from the overall page. even though there is kingdom size on the kingdom sheet and another size box in consumption it seems there not tied together and you have to change each individually. was this an over sight or intentional? seems it wouldn't be too hard to tie these all together so updating one updated them all, just a sugestion...

Everything is linked to the number of hexes on the Kingdom sheet, so that's the only number you need to update. The values for Size and Control DC on the Overall sheet are calculated automatically.
If you've manually entered numbers in the Overall sheet, then you'll have wiped out the formulae there (especially if you downloaded my v3 mod, where I forgot to lock the cells on the Overall sheet!! Oh, and you'd need to press F9 on the sheet to update it, for reasons I can explain if you want...).

This wouldn't work anyway, as the calculations are linked to the city sheets already in existence. Adding a new city this way does not incorporate it into the calculations - you'd have to use/modify the city tabs which are already present, or update the formula.

WHOA! thanks that's exactly what i did, the cells were not locked and I erased a bunch of formula. luckily i copied the original and used the copy as a staring point, and I had the original intact.
i lost my custom colors but now that i know a bit about how to lock it i can redo it later. thanks a ton! also when saving a kingdom i notice it saves it as a FILE and i have to choose a program to open it with no matter what type i save it as. Is it suppose to do this? it opens and functions ok i just thought it odd it doesn't save it as the same microsoft excel worksheet as the original. Is there a way i can save it as the original "microsoft excel work sheet"?

Hmmm - not sure what's happening here. If you open the Excel file, modify it, then just save it (or save it as another name) there should be no problem doing that. Should be a .xlsx file which is Excel 2007 format - maybe you have an older vesion of Excel, but then it wouldn't necessarily work....?

I was poking around 'under the hood' and ran into a bunch of hidden cells on each of the City Sheets that seem to have a missed Page reference...Cells AW42:BF42. Is there something I'm missing?
I see what you mean. You'll notice that the first five cities of the v3 mod have been added to and this error doesn't exist. The remaining hidden cities, six onward, haven't been updated (missing the Optional Buildings section) because it's a simple copy-and-paste job to update them.
The error is not a problem, though, just a relic of the original sheet and doesn't create a calc problem (tho will check again to make sure and tidy it up a bit). It's located where the Magic Item slots are, which aren't used for anything other than data entry.

thats what i did. i modified the sheet, hence entered in some of the data for the kingdom then just saved it as say "PC's kingdom". but in the folder i have the sheet saved it's showing as file type:data with the windows data file thumbnail and i have to choose "select the program that created it" or search the web for the program. the original shows as Microsoft excel worksheet file and has the excel thumbnail. Im using the newest version of openoffice.org calc. i tried saving as the default file type and saved as a few different file types and it still does this.
also on feedback. i've noticed something that could be a minor function problem and maybe cause issues. For the ruler even if your not a count or king you can still select 2 or 3 kingdom stats to modify. also it lets you choose say economy 3 times and calcs it in! lol

Yes, this part requires a certain honesty on the part of the user! :)

well if anyone else is using openoffice calc to run the data sheet i figured out how to get it to save in the correct format.
the first time you save your changes and "save as" make sure to check the box that says "Automatic filename extension" and save as a ODF spreadsheet. once i did that everything was ok.
ZoeTrope- your document made me want to change a few things to tailor to my needs so i went and did some learning up on writing some excel. I have gotten it to where i can now add PC's and NPC's on an added in sheet with all there stats. It then enables my players to select there leaders via a drop down which automatically searches for the appropriate stat of the highest value and enters it in :D I dont think it will work in microsoft excel however as i don't think openoffice is backwards compatible.

Glad you managed to solve the OpenOffice problem!
I've taken on board your suggestion and modified the workbook to incorporate this flexibility using PC/NPC stats stored in a separate sheet. In my game, the PC's are pretty fixed in their roles but I guess the NPC's can change, plus any PC's which cop it may force a re-shuffle of the roles depending on the new characters. Means you only have to enter the stats once and then can quickly pick-and-choose roles.
I haven't fully tested it out yet, so will make it available in due course (unless someone desperately wants it!).
RunebladeX |
zeotrope- i tried out the new version, it sure does have a lot of add ons! problem im having with the file is it takes forever to load up and sometimes even crashes. it fails saving often as well. im not sure why it's doing this, i know it bigger but its not THAT big. the most i like is the the grey out boxes of where you dont need to enter data, the optional resources, and the city maps and how you chose not to code anything to the city maps, fixing the city errors was nice too. i dont think i will use the random weather or event generator but i could see how some people would like the features. the way it loads on my computer though i dont see it being practical for me :(
Zoetrope |

Sorry to hear that - it's probably down to OpenOffice and/or your PC, as it works fine in Excel.
As I did with the original sheet, take from it what you find useful, modify what you need to and ditch the rest! :) After all, each of us plays the game differently and it seems from your earlier posts you've already made it your own, which is great.
As always, any suggestions for additions/changes, let me know!

Bump.
Someone told me they were probably "Comments." That's certainly how they look and act, but when I Command-Click them, it allows me to add another Comment. If they were actually Comments, I shouldn't be able to add another one (Excel Help says one Comment per cell). And it lets me add a new Comment but not edit the existing one.
So what are these things and how do I edit them to match my house-rule values?
Thanks!

This was answered earlier on in the thread - they're Input Messages related to the Data > Data Tools > Data Validation option (MS Excel 2007). Similar in some ways to comments, which is what I thought they were too, initially.

For me it's right in the center of the page inside a peach colored rectangle and a little icon looking like a harddrive w/ a green arrow over it.

PS; I'm not being sarcastic. Sometimes these sorts of pages are very busy and confusing.
Just checked the download and this is correct, the button appears just below the filename in the middle of the page.
