Hey guys, my Summoner 3 in my home game leveled up last week, and I decided to take a level of Fighter to grab the weapon and armor proficiencies and the good fortitude save. My Summoner usually uses a Composite Longbow while his Eidolon and the other party members trash our enemies up close.
What would be a good combat feat to take? I'm used to playing a fighter(archer), but I don't know what feat to take when I'm only getting a few combat ones.
Thanks in advance!

If you're usually using a bow, I wouldn't bother dipping into fighter since that's going to hold up your Eidolon's advancement. A chain shirt should be fine for archery, and it sounds like you've already got proficiency in the bow somehow (Elf maybe?).
I'd just go with the standard archer stuff: Point-Blank Shot, Precise Shot, Rapid Shot, Deadly Aim, Manyshot, Pinpoint Targeting, Improved Precise Shot, etc.
Arcane Strike is a pretty good damage kicker, but I'd wait until 5th to pick it up.
Another route you could go is the Dodge, Mobility, Shot on the Run path. If you go that route, take Vital Strike instead of Rapid Shot and Manyshot.

Our GM's pretty sneaky, so I'm currently trying out a +1 Breastplate we found a bit ago. I figure I should be ready for anything from him :P
Unfortunately, no, I had to pick up the fighter level to get the proficiency for the bow as well. The -4 non-proficiency, stacked with the -2 for lack of strength (we found it at a +4), and usually taking -4 for shooting into melee... all made using it pretty useless, and my scimitar wasn't much better. I know a Summoner's not a Fighter, and shouldn't have the high attack bonuses, but I wanted to be SOME help in a fight other than summon/buff.

Eh, I think I might take the Precise Shot line :/ Though I'm still not dead-set, we're playing tonight and I've already gone through last week's session without my Fighter feat lol

Ewww. 25% Arcane Spell Failure. I guess you aren't casting in combat huh? It doesn't affect the Summon Monster since that's a spell-like ability, but it hurts everything else.

Honestly, I'd have just gone with a morningstar and a light crossbow, but if you're going the Fighter/Summoner route, I'd see if your DM would let the Boon Companion feat from Seekers of Secrets work with your eidolon. It's intended to work with animal companions and familiars, but I don't see it as much of a stretch to include eidolons as well.

I'm also looking at the summoner and thinking of playing an archer summoner. If I might ask, what's your eidolon like? That's a big part of what I'm looking at-- deciding between having a quadruped that'll become a mount, or a biped bodyguard type...
I'm also wondering about feats. Point Blank Shot, Precise Shot, all those are all nice. Vital Strike and Arcane Strike could also be quite useful. And if I go the mounted route, I'll definitely pick up those feats.

I'm a mounted Summoner. My first feat was Arcane Strike, my second was Mounted Combat. It doesn't take a whole lot to make a pretty monster melee Summoner. Actually, if done right, you can be just as good as a Paladin, Cavalier, or a Fighter in combat. After a while though, you'll notice that the Paladin gets some major healing, the Cavalier gets better at charging, and the Fighter gets better at damage.
For a ranged route, I'd go with a more subtle route. After PBshot and Precise Shot, for 5th level, go with Weapon Focus then Arcane Strike. Your Eidolon should be whatever matches your character. But most important is if you go the mounted route, take Mounted Combat for yourself and take Combat Reflexes/Bodyguard for your Eidolon. This will either give you a bonus to defense or your mount a free dodge.
