We at 4 Winds Fantasy Gaming are excited to announce one of our upcoming products, The Apothecary's Handbook, focusing on herbalism and basic pharmacology in a fantasy setting. We don't have a firm page count or release date yet, as this one is still in the early stages, but we anticipate a PDF at least 40 pages long, and it should be ready to go sometime this summer or early fall.
I talked more about it on our Facebook fanpage.

At the very least, we'll have it on our Lulu storefront as PoD in addition to the PDF. It just might end up being a print product, though...

So, this about ways to use those points put into "Profession: Herbalist" and "Healing" to treat wounds that would be a waste of channeling or CLW spells? That's pretty cool, and lets characters like Rangers do their share of helping with recovery - finding that kingsfoil to treat a nasty venomous wound, for example. I like it.

Not just the minor stuff that would be a waste of channeling or cure spells, but also for those instances when there is no cleric, paladin or druid around, only the half-orc ranger or the halfling sorceress, but both know a few things about herbal healing...

Wow, sounds great!

Some questions:
Will this book have information on poisons, even if that's just certain types of berry or flower?
Possibly, but more than likely it will be more of a warning ("Be careful with this plant - the leaves heal, but the berries are poisonous!") than information about making poisons. Poison stats will be included for those plants that are poisonous.
What about a rundown of necessary equipment?
Yes!
Will it have herbs and plants from all types of environments (desert, shore, mountain, etc.)?
Also yes!
Will it have prices?
And yes, yet again! :D

Very cool i really hope this book goes well. My one request is run the spectrum from one end to the other. Basic fairly mundane stuff, like asprin plants to ones that do real healing. Also I personally would love to see more everyday uses. Birth control for example, hang over cure etc.

Like Ragu, "It's in there!" (Am I dating myself with that old commercial reference? I may be. Damn.) We will definitely be running the full spectrum, from minor things like aloe to herbs that can do some serious healing, and I personally would not dream of putting out an herbalism book without birth control herbs.
Glad you're excited, DM! We are too.

Lots of answers
Great, thanks!
You mentioned tinctures, will there be all extracts, tisanes, decoctions and other variants?
As Dark Mistress suggested, I would like to see everyday stuff like an aphrodisiac. Also, could you have a couple fake snake oil/cure-all in there like the way they marketed Coke in the old days.
Oh and one odd request, a super laxative! lol
Twice now I have had people sneak into guarded locations by offering the guards drink and food laced with something that I had to make up on the fly. They ended up being one of those stories people love to laugh about later.

I am very much excited about this kind of project. Just like with the Luven's Shop, I loved all the non adventure stuff like clothes etc. Callous had a few more good examples too.
Though I will add, if you guys do this and do your normal bang up job on it. I fully expect to see a alchemist book next. :)

Well, we're not going to rule anything out, but we're going to have to see what the APG adds to the games before we start working on supplemental material for them, naturally.
I'm honestly pretty excited to see what's in store.

Well I was more talking general alchemy and not alchemist class alchemy. Yeah I know there is some overlap but the alchemist class is a lot more Dr Jekyll/Mr Hide. I was more asking for/wanting to see a book of more typical alchemy. Things that any PC could make with craft: alchemy skill. Basically the same as what it seems you guys are going to be doing with herblism with this product but for alchemy.
If you wanted to do something with the alchemist class I think it would be better to do a book like what Merrik suggest.

If the Apothecary's Handbook does well, then we will most certainly consider an Alchemist's Handbook as a follow up.

Sounds interesting. I'll look forward to it.

Not to thread jack but this seemed like the place to ask. With the link I went and read all the "blogs" or posting you guys have done on facebook and one caught my eye.
Albion Armitage’s Astounding Arsenal, this sounds like a follow up for Luven's shop. I have to say that intrigues me considering how good of a job you guys did on Luven's Shop.

Well, it sort of is and sort of isn't a follow-up to LLG&TS. Some of the equipment was stuff that didn't quite fit in that book. However, most of the is original and the majority of the book is actually an adventure module. We'll shed more light on it as it gets nearer release date.

I second this opinion. However, what I really want to see next from 4 Winds is a book similar to LLG&TS, but focused specifically on military issues (though, to be clear, NOT mass combat rules).
Such a book would cover things like siege weaponry (beyond the usual catapults, ballistae, trebuchet, et al), personnel/troops (how much they cost, what roles they fill, etc.), and other details of what you'd need to carry out military operations - maybe even extras like the psychological effects of war, etc.
Basically, something that covers the oft-overlooked details of military adventuring, the way the first book did for "normal" adventuring.

I can tell you that this won't be our next book. The next book is Strategists & Tacticians, which looks at new combat feats, class options and combat maneuvers, as well as combat-oriented prestige classes. Look for it in mid- to late-April.
However, a book of the sort you would like to see is not out of the question from us in the future. With our current planned schedule, it may not make out out this year, but could end up in next year's schedule.
