Elisile Starbrow |
Elisile is a little surprised that there are no (obvious) gaurdians in this room. She takes the time to look and listen.
Perception: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (15) + 18 = 33
Demiarchos should probably make a perception check then too.
Aubrey the Demented/Malformed |
Demiarchos' Perception 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (6) + 12 = 18
"This room contains something... strange. Prepare for battle!" growls Demiarchos.
Roll initiative. And please place yourselves on the map. You are either in the room (probably the bottom half) or in the corridor outside - please do what seems most appropriate based on the above posts. None of you can see invisible so you will all be automatically surprised, unless you can hit the Perception DC of 48.
For the DM:
Hound 2 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23
Hound 3 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (3) + 9 = 12
Sefayll Valerian |
Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (5) + 3 = 8
She's behind the rest of the group, most likely, so it will depend on where they are placed.
Upon hearing that there is a foe in the next room, Sefayll will begin to focus on her helm to try to pick up its thoughts. Flavor text for her initial action, at least until we know what we are facing

Camlo 33
Thing 1 28
Thing 2 23
Hudak 21
Alwyn 19
Illes 16
Demiarchos 14
Thing 3
Elisile 11
Sefyall 8
Abruptly, three vaguely quadrupedal creatures materialise in the room. Their bodies are lean, almost skeletal. Fangs pack their jaws, with strange prehensile lolling out tongues that drip green ichor. As they move it seems as if they are shifting between realities, space bending to accommodate their whims. Huge soulless eyes like smoky glass orbs glare out, warping the fabric of the universe and tearing the bodies of its hapless mundane inhabitants.
In the surprise round they unleash a gaze attack. T1 and T3 attack Hudak, T2 attacks Demiarchos. The damage is subject to DR if you have it, though it bypasses DR/magic and slashing. Also a Fort save DC 18 negates the damage and you are immune to that thing's gaze attack for 24 hours.
T1 5d6 ⇒ (2, 2, 4, 2, 2) = 12
T2 5d6 ⇒ (4, 6, 4, 4, 6) = 24
T3 5d6 ⇒ (4, 3, 4, 2, 4) = 17
Knowledge (The Planes) DC 17:
Camlo.
Sefayll Valerian |
Knowledge (planes): 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (7) + 15 = 22
"Those appear to be hounds of Tindalos. They are not normally found in this reality. Their presence is an indication of the power of the spellcaster we seek."
Sefayll Valerian |
"These creatures can teleport and shift between planes, but with some restrictions. It appears that the room was designed to constrain them. They may have been imprisoned here long ago. Or perhaps the room was designed for this purpose by a previous caster."
Elisile Starbrow |
So Hudak failed both saves and Demiarchos saved; I think we are up to Thing 1 and Thing 2 (they sound so cuddly and loveable).
I quite like this image of a Hound of Tindalos: http://img09.deviantart.net/514b/i/2016/050/9/3/the_hounds_of_tindalos_by_n ottsuo-d9sed54.jpg

Perception checks
T1 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (2) + 18 = 20
T2 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (17) + 18 = 35
T3 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (4) + 18 = 22
I think Camlo's move is 7 squares and therefore counts as a double-move at full speed. That imposes a -5 mod to Stealth checks.
The creatures' otherworldly gaze begins rearranging Hudak's anatomy. Blood spurts from tortured tissues. As one continues to stare, tearing the Shoanti warrior apart, another begins to warp time itself.
OK, Hudak takes 29 slashing damage in the surprise round. Thing 1 then gazes at him again. Same thing, 5d6 ⇒ (5, 4, 5, 4, 3) = 21 damage, DC 18 Fort save negates.
Thing 2 casts Slow. It knows Camlo is there, so Concentration check 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (16) + 13 = 29 v DC 21. Given line of sight, that'll potentially hit everyone except Sef, as Thing 2 doesn't have line of sight to her. That's a Will save, DC 16, or you are Slowed for ten rounds.
Hudak.
Illes Elandru |
2 people marked this as a favorite. |
Will: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15 Sslllooowwwweeedd.
Mothman's Hound of Tindalos image
Other url wasn't working for me. Perfect image though.

Alwyn Agnarrson |
Yeah, I meant AW10. Alwyn casts Blade barrier in a 10' radius circle anchored in the AT-AU 9-10 intersection. They take 11d6 ⇒ (4, 4, 3, 3, 3, 1, 5, 5, 5, 4, 1) = 38 points of damage; Reflex 22 negates. It hits Thing 1 and Thing 3; if they end up inside the ring of blades it should give us time to deal with Thing 2. And it gives cover and thus stops their creepy gaze attack!

Illes Elandru |
Illes begins casting in slow motion until something pops and his body syncs back up to normal time. The others around him, however, take on the jerky high speed signs of his spells.
Standard: Haste, Everyone except Hudak.
That dispels slow and just puts Illes back to normal speed.
If that allows him to continue his turn with a Move action-
Move Action: Inspire Courage +4/+4
Elisile Starbrow |
From the spell description: "When making a full attack action, a hasted creature may make one extra attack with one natural or manufactured weapon" - so Demiarchos is good to go!
Alwyn Agnarrson |
Attack 1: 1d20 + 20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 20 + 1 = 41 damage: 2d6 + 12 + 2d6 ⇒ (2, 5) + 12 + (3, 1) = 23
Attack 2: 1d20 + 20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 20 + 1 = 28 damage: 2d6 + 12 + 2d6 ⇒ (2, 1) + 12 + (1, 6) = 22
Full attack on Thing 2! The second 2d6 in each damage sequence is fire damage. Attack rolls include }Haste bonus.

I have precise shot, so I can fire into melee, but is it even feasible for Elisile to target Thing 2 from her current position behind Demiarchos? If not, she will do something else ...
Elisile Starbrow |
Alright, I'm going to assume that Elisile can fire past Demiarchos, but the Hound of Tindalos will get a +4 bonus to AC due to cover from Demiarchos. I will NOT factor that into my dice rolls, so Aubrey feel free to adjust the Hound's AC accordingly.
Full attack with Shocking Bow on Thing 2, with effects of Inspire Courage, Haste, Cat's Grace, Point Blank Shot, Precise Shot and Gravity Bow.
Attack 1: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (3) + 21 = 24 damage: 2d6 + 7 + 1d6 ⇒ (1, 4) + 7 + (5) = 17 (last 1d6 is electrical).
Attack 2 (haste): 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (18) + 21 = 39 damage: 2d6 + 7 + 1d6 ⇒ (5, 4) + 7 + (6) = 22 (last 1d6 is electrical).
Attack 3: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (19) + 16 = 35 damage: 2d6 + 7 + 1d6 ⇒ (6, 4) + 7 + (5) = 22 (last 1d6 is electrical).
Elisile takes aim at the wounded hound through the narrow gap between Demiarchos' bulk and the wall and let's fire with three rapid arrows.
