"Yes, either that brave Gerant or we lower someone down on a rope to take a look, either is good. I guess it depends what Sheridan has in mind too?"
"Well, our friend the Archon here has a few minutes left before he has to leave, and has the distinct advantage that death just means an early ticket home for him. Why don't we send him down first? He's no dolphin, but he can swim as well as any of you and can teleport back up if he finds anything."
Is this another fully submerged level, or is there an air level above the water this time?

"Great. Any ideas on how to make us more effective in underwater combat? Failing that, anyway we can bypass having to get in the water all together?"
There are two ways that I can think of. The first is we caste a bunch of FLYs and just fly pass them. Second, we cast a bunch of Freedom of Movements and take the fight to them. I prefer the second method because there is no guarantee of a place to land if we fly. Also, the next chute could be underwater and I rather be able to fight. I think either method requires us to rest so the casters can prep the spells.

"I can turn into something that can swim again, but I've got nothing that will help anyone else unless you want to try climbing over the top of the room or being enlarged and just wading. I can definitely summon something to give us some support, though. Speaking of which..."

And you just rested like a hour ago in game time LoL...that's teh problem with not having a ticking clock.
Do we actually need to rest? I'm only down by a single first level spell, and unless I missed something major Delwyn is only down by two spells and no one is injured.
Gerant Altidor
|
The only reason to rest is to so that Delwyn can memorize Freedom of Movement for everyone. If we're not resting, then we have to figure out a way to either fight effectively under water or find a patch of dry land to engage the enemy. If I recall correctly, our last encounter in water didn't go well...
Sheridan, I might have asked this before, but can Gannertung fight amphibious? Can you perhaps summon some creatures to either aid us in water or at least distract the enemy long enough so we can get out of the aquatic environment?
Gerant Altidor
|
"Well then, let's go!"
Gerant pulls out a grappling hook and secures it on the chute, then slowly lowers the rope down into the water.
"If we have to swim, we should at least try not to alert the beasts."
Is everyone still with us? Delwyn hasn't post in a while and the cavalier never made an appearance.

I'm still here, life is taking my time.
"So we have flight for up to maybe 3, depending on the weight Gannertung can hold, more water, and several potential enemies. If they are like those from last time, we will need to coordinate now our tactics. Is anyone able to create the eye that scouts ahead, a spell of some kind?"
Jequine
|
"Or we lower the bait and let them come to us, meet them on dry land. My preference definitely, let them climb up the shute to us."
Still here, but not tooo active as jequine's skills don't seem so useful at the moment.
Gerant Altidor

"I say we scout it out first. Once we ascertain the enemy's #s and ID, we can plan accordingly. If they have the ability to climb up the chute, then I think luring them would be a good idea."
Anyone have a spell that can do the trick? If not we can lower the person with the properly knowledge down...
Valanos

Valanos can't do anything regarding swimming and recon as well as the others.
"Send the summoned creatures as scouts, I believe we can still breathe water so let us make haste. If scouts are found, have them lead them up the pipe, creating a fatal funnel, we kill them at our leisure."
| Xaldinaar the Ancient |
After summoning the elemental it takes off into the water, the medium elemental is actually tough enough to take out the seal-like creatures it encounters, and returns, reporting a tunnel (chute) in the opposite corner.
too anti-climatic? Just try to get to the real encounters, this one is another easy one, that's just a stepping stone. Resource used, so let's let that one resource be all that's needed for this encounter.
| Xaldinaar the Ancient |
1d20 ⇒ 20
1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Everyone may roll for initiative but don't post actions yet. You hear the sound of ripping flesh and Jequine grunt in surprise...
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12 Claw vs. Flat-footed.
1d20 + 10 ⇒ (12) + 10 = 22 Claw vs. Flat-footed.
DMG for attack #2, 2d4 + 5 ⇒ (3, 4) + 5 = 12
Initiative 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (12) + 2 = 14
| Xaldinaar the Ancient |
Jequine scrambles back up the chute as fast as she can, "Some nasty bug, flying thing just clawed me, get ready I'm coming up, it'll probably follow me!!!"
Climb 1d20+10 to go up the chute
Jequine withdraws, but nothing follows, judging by the size of the paw that smacked you it's too big.

"OK guys, over to you, if that things not coming after me, you can be sure its waiting for the next one to go down. Do you think you would be OK going down to take it on, we can lower you with a rope to make sure you don't fall. Or I can let you us my ring, it will let you fall without injury, but I will need it back." She stems the flow of blood from the stipes of raw flesh as it escaped the wounds on her face, she looks away from the party as she does this, not wanting them to see the disfigurement. She feels the wounds and continues, "Probably a really big thing down there, no idea how many there might be!"
@Geraint - 12 HP down, will wait for you channel later to recover, hopefully.

"What is the drop in the chute? Can we maybe jab at the bug with a spear or something? Going down seems a bit reckless; it's certainly a last resort if nothing else works."
Can we toss down a dagger, then caste an area effect spell on it (while it's in the air, close to the bugs) like fireball? Just a thought.
| Xaldinaar the Ancient |
As you stand discussing the situation, you hear a roar, and spikes fly up through the chute missing you all, but causing quite a ruckus as they ricochet up the tube. Bug is probably the wrong description.

Initiative 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8
Know: Arcana 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
"Manticore! It's a big lion-ish flying thing. And spikes, obviously, although I don't remember where they come from."
He pauses for a moment and thinks, then whispers:
"You know, magical beasts are almost always intelligent enough to at least speak, we might be able to negotiate with it. We have killed a lot of things on the way here that we could easily turn over to it as food."

Sheridan's actually a terrible choice due to his intense gullibility, but for that same reason he's also perfectly willing to go.
When no one else expresses an interest, Sheridan says "Well, I'm certainly willing to give it a go!" He looks around for confirmation, and if no one objects will prepare to be lowered down by Gannertung.
