Craft or Profession?

Rules Questions

Silver Crusade

I'm sure there are kind of grey areas as to what falls where, and rather than just opening a thread exclusively for my question, let's keep a thread going where anyone can ask questions regarding these two skills.

For my own, I'm curious if the job 'Cartographer' falls into Craft or Profession.

Profession. For the same reasons as Profession: Scribe. I guess you could say you aren't making a new object, just changing an existing one. The difference between a map/document and a blank sheet of parchment is largely cosmetic, right? :-)

OTOH, never understood why it's Profession: Cook, rather than Craft: Cooking. Perhaps the start and end products are not sufficiently different ('most' foods are edible at both ends of the process, though taste and nutrient absorption may vary) to merit being a craft.

I think the rules mentioned that Craft skills were to produce things that you'd sell using RP (or keep), while Profession skills were to work, earning wages by doing your job, and not bringing into RP the exact items you made and sold.

I still don't like the fact that Profession is a skill altogether, but that's just me.

My thoughts here.
