Would Paizo consider acquiring rights to other settings?

I don't speak acronym too well, so could someone explain AoW & ST?

Age of Wyrms and Savage Tide, the other pre-Golarion adventure paths that Paizo published after Shackled City.

Cool. Thanks! Again pardon my ignorance.

I meant more along the lines of the core of Drizzt's story and popularity stems from the group of people he adventures with, a group that's all but basically dead.

Drizzt's an elf... which means he's around for a long time. Outside of the Mithral Hall series he has no consistent set of companions.

I guess I thought anybody cruising these boards for a longer time would have come across these acronyms, so I did not bother to explain. Seems I was mistaken...

It's not that big of a deal, honestly. I just am not good at acronyms. :-)

I think if the current map of Golarion were strapped on to the western end of Oerik, w/ the Flanaess of course being the eastern end, this could work quite nicely, actually. This would be the proverbial dream come true for me--Paizo acquiring the rights to Greyhawk.

I think I am going to do this with Mystara.

While it's a cool idea, it would never happen. Paizo would have to buy Greyhawk from WOTC, not get a license if they wanted to attach it to Golarion. The reason being is if they ever lost the license, like Margrette Weis Productions lost the license to Dragonlance, Paizo would never be able to print anything about Grey in Pathfinder again.

Understood completely. What I am really dreaming about is Paizo acquiring (i.e., buying) Greyhawk; not licensing it from WOTC.

I like Riyria

One of the mistakes that ultimately led to the failure of TSR was their proliferation of campaign settings—their customers self-identified as a Realms player or a Greyhawk player, or whatever, and would only consider material specifically branded to them. Towards the end, they had more than half a dozen campaign settings to support, and that meant that more and more of the books they were publishing were appealing to a smaller and smaller subset of their customers, which meant it was harder for them to make any money on any given book.

This is a large part of why we created a campaign setting that itself supports many flavors and styles of play. If we want to do a vampire-themed adventure, for example, we can do that within our current setting, and without automatically excluding half our customers.

There will not be a proliferation of campaign settings here at Paizo.

Beautifully put, Vic!

Couldn't agree more. The beauty of Golarion is that it is almost infinitely adaptable. Don't like Gothic horror settings? Make Ustalav just another kingdom. Want more traditional nations? Model Andoran on Furyondy or Cormyr, rather than post-Revolution USA. Don't like gunpowder tech? Remove it.

Most of Pathfinder crunch is generic - it just happens to be set on Golarion. I'm quite successfully converting my old Greyhawk campaign over to Golarion. It's easy. Seriously! :)

I love the idea of new planets, continents, etc - but stick with the one setting. We don't need a whole stack of them! :)
