I had never read a FR novel, and only relatively recently decided to educate myself to a part of gamer culture by reading the Drizzt graphic novels. Before the AP fiction, I kind of knew who EC was, and had maybe read a short story. I was utterly ignorant of DG. I've got to say, I've been really pleased with their contributions to the Pf Journal, and so am full of anticipation for the the novels. (Kemp: I'd seen the Shadow books, but he's also brand new to me as a writer.)

Kemp is relatively new. WOTC has no best selling authors to call their own. For the most part, their big sellers are TSR authors/designers. What makes him a big deal is he's a WOTC original.
The irony is, this mirrors exactly what TSR did to Salvatore when TSR was desperate for money. Salvatore wanted to write something else, TSR more or less gave him a hard time, Salvatore walked.
Kemp wants to do other stuff (hello star wars) and WOTC gave him a hard time, Kemp walked.
Obviously Salvatore came back, because WOTC bought TSR and they handle him with the respect/courteous due to him. But it's still amuses me that WOTC is walking the same tight rope.
Elaine and the Realms parted ways.
Ed Greenwood (Realms) has nothing coming out.
Tracy Hickman and Margarette Weis (Dragonlance) have nothing coming out.

I thought Hickman/Weiss had their own new thing going? Can't remember the name of it now, but looked very vikingish.
They opened up their own RPG studio to publish 3.x Dragonlance (since WOTC wasn't doing it) and got licenses to several tv properties (all of which failed as RPGs.)
Regardless, all that time they continued doing Dragonlance novels.
There hasn't been a peep about them doing any new novels since the last trilogy they wrote. Same with Ed.
