Hi Treppa. Are you preparing for any more concerts?

No, and I'm really jealous that you are rehearsing an opera. I'm relieved at the same time because I don't have any musical commitments. It's a nice break.

The community college is staging "Guys and Dolls," which I've played pit for before. I'm considering doing that, but I'm in kind of an energy well right now.

Well, we're heading into summer which is always a slow time for musicians. Sometimes the break is welcome :)

Nah, I just wanted to see what was going on. Plus I wanted to try out my new Groucho Marx mask.

Argh! Why must the boss order all NEW products and then take off to Charleston the day they arrive? I hate inputting new products into the system. And like 11 boxes of them to boot.

I feel your pain. That's exactly what we've been doing during our store switch. There are five boxes waiting for me now, but they each have lots of different products. *sigh*

goooooood afternoon fawlty towers!!!!

Still a little loopy after last night's impromptu bbq at my friend's house(where I used to live) since I mistook sake for plum wine and got myself and the missus all good and socially lubricated. It was fun to sit around and hang out with the gang again, including the new addition who is taking my place(and a nice bit of crumpet to boot!! Did I mention she loves Green Lantern?!?!! It's like I never left, except they all like HER breasts...but perhaps I've said too much. ;-) ). It was a wonderful evening, just on this side of magical.

Work today is work, in contrast. Lots of paperwork was waiting for me, and I'm taking a quick breather now while I prepare to run group. Here's hoping I have time to work on the Paladins today....

The really weird thing about those big comfy chairs is that when paired with a book, they have the ability to alter space-time relationship.

One time I was at a BN that had a starbucks inside of it with a comfy chair just outside of the starbucks area. I got my tea, and sat down with one of the 4th ed novels(trying to give it a chance). The next thing I know, a rather stern security guard is waking me up, informing me that the store is closing. I was mortified.

They just got done with the last one, and in all the time that FAWTL has been going (in one form or another) they've only done MB once. I wouldn't expect invitations for MB2 to go out right away, so perhaps just put that on the back burner until everyone decides that they're gonna actually have a MB2.

What's considered downtown Brooklyn? I never got to spend much time in Brooklyn, but Williamsburg seemed attractive.

Well folks, time for this DM to head home. A storm's a comin' and I don't want to miss the view from my 9th floor apartment(I may in fact head up to the 20th to enjoy it even more)!!!!

And to answer your question Doc, Downtown Brooklyn would be...checks map below Williamsburg if you follow the coast, heading in the direction of the Manhattan Bridge, but inland a good amount more. Basically if you're not in Fort Greene, Brooklyn Heights(*chortle and scoff*), or Cobble Hill, you're in Downtown.

Nope. TAD:

How do you know that it's nothing like PaizoCon? Have you been to PaizoCon to compare? None of the folks who were at Myrtle Beach has even been to PaizoCon (until later on this month) to even make the comparison themselves.

I'm not saying that you're not a fully capable person and I'm not implying that you cannot travel alone. But I am aware that at your current status, someone has custodial rights over you and that covers a lot of territory that some of us are unwilling to take upon the risk in the situation that something accidentally occurs. From what I understand, you don't have a credit card to your name. You don't have a driver's license. I could go on. I don't want to be the one explaining to your mother what happened if something did happen.

Seriously, I think the actual outlet to hang out would be PaizoCon. It's more organized and there'd be a lot more people and familiar faces that will be there that hang out in this thread, Facebook, and all parts of the board(s). It would be easier for your mother to accompany you to Seattle, and then step back into the shadows to do your own thing ... If we end up coming across as over-reacting, you can prove us wrong there and we can rethink the whole issue.

Don't think it's an us vs. you thing. It isn't the case. It really is a liability issue due to an unfamiliarity of the responsibility with regard to an adult under custodial purview. Anyone can make assurances, but they don't mean a thing if something accidentally occurs out of control and could be held liable because you are not considered a fully emancipated and legally self-responsible adult in the eyes of the law.

What would you do if you were in my shoes? Are you familiar with Ohio's laws? South Carolina's? I sure don't know about Arizona's .... except for that whole brouhaha about the crack-down on immigration that's in the news lately. :p

Otherwise, we're cool, TAD. Chill and peace, bro.

I have spent a big chunk of the day working on a Champions Campaign. I plan on having it make a sharp turn toward an Age of Apocalypse setting. The problem is that I am the only one with the rules and I think I have only one or two of my gaming group that has ever even played any edition of Champions. :(

Have you considered Mutants and Masterminds? It has some advantages over the Hero system, especially for those unfamiliar to Hero. It is d20 based, so the play rules are easier to pick up. Building characters requires less math. The numer 12 is not a central part of combat. You don't have to keep track of endurance. It has mechanics for doing cool bits that are not on your character sheet. The game has a reasonably cheap players book. And it is only 2nd edition and none of the core rulebooks has been proven to be so thick it will stop light caliber bullets (I've seen the picture).
The down side- it doesn't use hit poits which can be weird for some.

Now that Green Ronin has picked up the DC license, they're going to follow up with a 3rd edition to M&M this fall. Just an obligatory FYI.

I heard that rumour, but didn't know it was confirmed.

Still not bullet-proof though.

I have played M&M and I just didn't like the system that well although I had fun the time we played it. Bob, the baby splugorth, was my character. It is also wide open in a way that characters can be easily broken from what I've seen. Or, more to the point, they can be badly broken in ways that I might not pick up as a GM.

I have always been fond of the Champions game and have been wanting to play a game of it for a long while. Also, I am familiar enough with all the aspects of the system that I can put checks on people attempting to break characters. The newer edition also makes it easier in my opinion to watch for such things. Plus, with all the available suppoert out there, I can have instant access to countless villains for the party to face without putting much effort into it. Conversion from 5th tol 6th is very easy for NPCs because point counting does not matter. All that I have to do is compare combat values and look for special tricks to make sure they are appropriate. If there is an ability that is too powerful for the party, I can just not use it.

@ CJ

Sixth edition removed the figured characteristics based off other characteristics:

SPD is no longer based off Dex.
OCV/DCV is no longer based off Dex
ECV has been changed to MCV and is no longer based off Ego.
PD/ED are no longer based off Con (and Bod? I don't remember)
Com was dropped.
Etc.

The removal of figured characteristics speeds up character creation a lot because if you decide to rejuggle your stats to find a few points you do not have to recalculate (and thus redivide) all your stats.
