LOL! Sounds like gold to me! If you are interested, DM4hire, the 2nd post of this thread has a link to the word doc. Feel free to do some editing if you want, and post the results here. This offer stands for anyone who has any ideas for improving the doc.
Glad you like the titles. I'll take a look at editing, but can't promise anything at the moment as life is a little hectic. However, if you don't mind I'd like to toy around with porting the doc over to Publisher and trying to cut the page count down a tad and give it more of a book layout.

I don't mind at all, but you should wait for the 3rd print, because it will contain the artwork, and I'm reformatting the descriptions of all the weapons, armor, and equipment to the PF format (Slot; Price; Weight; Construction Requirement & Cost). I should be done by the end of February ...

Dark Archive

Will do then. Looking forward to seeing it.

dm4hire wrote:

Thanks! I hate to keep mucking with it when I know that a few people are wanting to do some reformatting with it, but I want the finished product to be as awesome as I (and all of you who have been helping) can make it.

3rd time's a charm, they say, so the 3rd print, which will include art and changed names to avoid lawsuits, in addition to the revamped equipment chapter, will be the final draft. Any changes I make later will be released as errata rather than a whole new core doc., and if I change the name of the game, it will be a simple matter for you to find/replace for your own copy. Thanks again for your help with the titles, I'm pretty sure that I'm going to be using one of your suggestions, or at least something close to. Huzzah!

I like a combination of the following:

Bright Flash, Smoke and Ash
or Something Happened on the Way to the Bomb

It would be a fitting tribute to Dr. Strangelove (Kubrick). Throw that with a dystopian Farside theme and art appropos and you might have some gold here. I'd love to know if dm4hire would love to tackle some editing to inject such contents to interlace into your texts.

Heheheheh. I like this. It reminds me of the wierdness that was gamma world.

I once had a player playing a mutant tree run from a flock of birds. When asked why he ran, he said " My mother was killed by a giant mutant woodpecker. I can still remember the laugh. (he then proceeded to do the Woody Woodpecker laugh)."

Glad you're liking it. It's really growing on me too. :D

Okay, I have two more to throw out there:

Rack and Ruin

Ruins and Wastelands (kind of in the vein of Dungeons & Dragons or Tunnels & Trolls)

I've decided the title will be Ruins & Wastelands: After the Cataclysm. I like the way it flows. If something better comes up (and I know better in this case is subjective :P), I'll change it and release a 4th print, but the 3rd print will bear this title.

Thanks to all of you for wracking your brains with me in trying to come up with a cool title. I will be using some of your suggestions for supplements to be released in the future ("Bright Flash, Smoke & Ash, or Something Happened on the Way to the Bomb" will be the title of a supplement for sure, maybe an alternate setting that takes place right after the Apocalypse, a la Mad Max movies, or maybe a more humorous approach to the game for those who want more of a beer-n-pretzels game).

ERRATA: I've combed through and edited the Psionics chapter for odd errors caused by find/replacing words like spell, etc., removed any references to rules or elements that don't belong (such as psions, prohibited disciplines, etc.), and added notes to powers that reference magic or supernatural elements stating something to the effect of "this power or these elements exist only if the GM includes magic, etc.".

I'm also going through carefully and changing all IP of WotC.

Dark Archive

Sounds good, looking forward to seeing the next version.

UPDATE: I'm almost done with the 3rd and final print of Ruins & Wastelands: After the Cataclysm RPG. I've reformatted (sp?) all equipment, cyberware, robots, and vehicles to conform with the formats for magic items in PFCRB (slot, price, weight, description, construction requirements, etc.).

I still have to finish a few illustrations, and change monster names. I could use some help on the latter task, so if anyone has any suggestions for renaming the monsters in the Bestiary chapter, please post them here. Thanks!

Any particular beasties in specific that you need renamed?

And I'm also looking forward to the art you'll be including. :)

Everything except mugger bugs and ruds (I made those up). The rest have all appeared in previous editions of GW.

I'm glad you like the art, Urizen! There will be a total of 13 color illustrations by myself, plus a few black-and-white public domain images.

Which reminds me...I saw somewhere else where someone came up with a d20 for Resident Evil. Curious to see it to see if anything interests you?

Thanks, bud, I'll check it out! :)

UPDATE: Finished renaming all monsters whose names were IP of WotC. All that remains to do is:

1) Replace the timeline from Dragon magazine with a better one;

2) Insert artwork (almost finished, just need to color two more illustrations);

3) Convert finished product to google doc and post link. I'll post the link for the finished doc in a new thread titled "PF Gamma World final print pdf link" under conversions, and also in a thread on the homebrew board titled "Ruins & Wastelands: After the Apocalypse (a post-apocalyptic PF RPG)".

I anticipate finishing and posting before the end of February.

The next project I'll be working on is an introductory adventure for R&W called "The Perilous Patrons of Win-Zor Inn", for 1st-level PCs (completion of adventure should bring PCs to 3rd - 5th level, depending on which XP column is used). This will be an exploration adventure set in the West End of "Lun-Dun", in what was once a Windsor Inn (multi-story hotel), currently inhabited by a clan of mutant cannibals and various other monsters. Not sure when this will be done, but I'm estimating that it will take at least a month based on my current pace.

I also have a few adventure titles which could be developed into actual adventures:

"The Horrors of He-Throw" (exploration of Heathrow airport in "Lun-Dun");

"Overlords of the Underground" (exploration of "Lun-Dun" Underground, where the Robotocracy holds sway);

and "Twilight of the Gods" (a big adventure/campaign supplement detailing the Gods of the Silver Dome, pure strain humans who masquerade as gods using high-tech and enslave/exploit all the other settlements of Eukay).

I welcome collaberation, contributions of fluff/crunch/artwork, advise, etc.

Mike, I'm sure you meant After the Cataclysm, right?

UPDATE: It's taking me a little longer than I anticipated to finish the final draft of the core doc, but it shouldn't be much longer. I'm just finishing up some details of the Eukay campaign setting: Cryptic Alliances and geographic features (a brief note on the forests, mountains, and bodies of water), and then I'll post the link. Cheers!

Keep it up, Mike!

P.S. SGG's going to announce the kickstarter launch of their P20 Modern project this morning PST.

This is so. Very. Cool! Awesome job. Gamma World was my favorite game back in the day, and it looks like you've done a great job with this conversion. My group is so going to have this inflicted on them at some point. I'll let you know how it works out.

I wish there was some way you could get hold of an advance copy of WotC's 4th Ed version of Gamma World they are putting out later this year. Then you could make absolutely sure you were not using any terms or names that are their property. I just worry about things like place names and terms, like Cryptic Alliance, being open content.

One Blew Up the Cuckoo's Nest (HAHA)

Nuclear Warfare for Dummies vol2, Surviving in the Aftermath

So Long and Thanks for All the Mutations.

Sorry...I'm in a silly mood.

Sweet, please do! I've corrected alot of typos, changed formats, etc., so look for the 3rd print, coming very soon (within the month).

I worry a little about it too, but I've changed everything I could think of (from the 2nd draft for the 3rd) that might get me in trouble. I never considered the term "Cryptic Alliance" might be IP, but perhaps I should change that, too. As for place names, I won't be mentioning Meriga or any of the place names therein, but I did make mention of a "Merika", and I copped "Lantik Zea". Maybe I should also change those? My original setting of Eukay is 100% from scratch. Otherwise, I think I've mostly covered my bases, as the 3rd print will soon reveal ...

Here is a partial list (will run up to 50).

The idea is that you can roll the die and count only odd rolls for artifact gear (secured base, vehicle, etc) or even for PA junk/gear and weapons. Or just do a straight roll for total randomness. Also there are three degrees for each entry - mind you there was little consideration for exact coin count and power levels (don't believe that for GW), but you can assign the loot as minor, moderate or major finds. That or you can go totally insane and roll:
1-4 Minor
5-7 Moderate
8 Major

Some entries (as they go higher) contain the lower powered items.

Let me know if you like it and I will add the rest.

Minor/Moderate/Major loot finds
1) Small Metal case containing:1-3 MP5K Mags (empty) & 1 MP5/MP5K 30 rnd mag (empty) / Plasteel case with 1-2 boxes of 9mm ammo / MP5K (no clips) with retractable stock (+1.3 lbs), stock extended with 2 hands adds +1 to hit.

2) Duralloy Shortsword with leather grip / Small wooden crate with 1-6 molotov cocktails / Plasteel Pole with multiple blades and knifes attached to end (treat as mstwrk Halberd)

3) Set of steel Handcuffs with keys / Lockpick set / Gun Suppressor (1-4 pistol/5-6 rifle) (roll type - 9mm, 10mm, .45 cal, 5.56mm, 7.62, or other)

4) Wooden knife holder with shoulder strap - case with slots for various knives/daggers. Holds 2 throwing daggers and 1 large dagger for melee / Portable mini-food processor, uses long life chem. cell to power / Pouch with 1-6 aqua purifier tabs (purifies up to 30 gallons of water per tab – removes all toxins and impurities but has no effect on radiation)

5) Partially Depleted portable medi-hub: 1-2 doses of anti-tox, 1-2 doses of sporekill, 1-10 uses of bandages & simple drugs (each as medikit) / as prev + 1-2 doses of neutrad, 1-2 doses of bio-cort/ as prev + 1 canister of plastiflesh (20 uses, 1 use per wound, x2 healing rate for 3 days) . Total up weight +1 lb for storage hub

6) Pipe with rakox hide handle with crete block at end (treat as footman’s mace) / Long pipe/zip rifle (12 gauge), treat as single shot Mossberg 20 ft range increment, with pouch of (1-12) 12g shotgun shells / PA made pipe/gren rifle, loads and fires one 40mm gren at a time (treat as M79 with 50 ft range increment, -1 to hit). Has a 10% chance of jamming per shot, if it does then it has another 10% chance of detonating in launcher (x2 damage, no save)

7) Small synthle-hide recovery kit with: 1-2 portable glow lamps / as prev + 2-4 nanobeacon bracelets or badges (chips can be removed) and 2 nanobeacon scanners (100 mile range) / as prev + 2-4 handheld unicoms

8) Sack containing dried meats and fruits, 2-8 days worth of food / 1 – 8 bottles of Vitalife or Burp-ola Cola, gives +1 to Initiative for 1 hour after drunk (per bottle max +2 initiative), once the super-energy high passes the user suffers a -2 to initiative (per bottle drunk) for 1 hour after. Highly addictive / Hvy Crossbow with mounted x 1.5 standard scope (treat weapon as mstwrk) and hip quiver holding 2d10 match quality steel bolts (+1 to damage)

9) Duralloy Weapon case (secured) for mini-grenade launcher and grens, currently contains: 1-2 frag mini-grens and 1-2 tear gas min-grens. These grens can only be used in a mini-gren launcher unless modified / as prev + 1-2 sonic mini-grens / as prev + mini-gren launcher.

10) Plasteel sharpened pole (with vent-holes), treat as Spear with a -1 to hit but causes Bleed:2 rounds (1pt for 2 rounds after hit, hits do not stack but add to the duration of bleed - max 2 rounds) / Fire Ax (treat as mstwrk weapon) / 1-2 Nailbombs (treat as frag grens x2 wt, with fuse – 1 round to detonate, 10% of being a dud)

Dark Archive

Also did some write ups for some classic GW weapons. Mark V and Mark VII blasters. Let me know if you want them (probably be Prog 8 level weapons)

That's what I get for refreshing w/o checking the thread title.

I'd go ahead and change all the names just to be on the safe side. Not that I think Wotc will send out a take down notice, but best not to give them any reasoning. I'm looking forward to seeing what they've done with it, maybe 4e will work for it, Alternity didn't do too bad but then they kept it simple and short. The only thing that turns me off about it is that they went back to a boxset format and supposedly doing two of them. I'd rather they just did one book and called it good. Anyway I'm looking forward to seeing the next version and still willing to help with layout to cut down on page count and make it look more bookish.

Probably will be in WotC's 4th ed GW, so I'm gonna pass, at least on using the names Mark V, etc. Can't hurt to post what you have, though. Maybe I can use the stats and change names.

Yeah, I've been going through and changing the names of everything that was based directly on GW.

Thanks for your offer to help with the layout, dm4hire. I will finish up asap so you can get started. I'm hoping to have it finished by the end of the month. Still need to figure out what I need to do regarding OGL. I read the Pathfinder Compatability agreement, so I know what to do there, but not sure what I'm obligated to do to use OGL. Anyone know?

ERRATA: Mutant humans and pureblood humans (like the new names?) are now cooler.

Mutant humans get a bonus minor mutation (no MP cost, so no drawbacks to balance) at 1st, 5th, and 10th character level. They get a bonus major or minor mutation at 15th and 20th level. A considerable power boost, obviously.

Pureblood humans get "superior toughness", giving them 6 bonus hp at 1st level, and 2 bonus hp per level starting at 4th (basically Toughness X2; it doesn't stack with Toughness).

I think this puts them on more even ground with mutant animals (but I might boost them a smidge by giving more of them modest natural armor bonuses) and mutant plants, which have all the plant immunities, camoflauge in the right terrain, etc.
