As one of Loopy's players, though not the witch, I don't mind this call, or how it played out. I expect fluff to match the ability, and in this case it doesn't. For the spore example, I would expect the golem to be immune, and would be quite annoyed with it if the flavor didn't match. Though that just gave me an idea of the mold growing on the golem. That would be fun.
As for us knowing what it is, it was a creature made of ice with chains through it, being given commands through the chains by its snowbold handlers. My ranger tried taking the chains after the snowbolds were dead to see if he could animal handle it, since as far as he knew it was some kind of semi-trained beast.

Yeah, that was pretty awesome. If you'd rolled high enough or had watched the snowbolds without taking an action, you might have actually figured out the commands. That would have made another great beast to add to the group's already formidable menagerie. LOL

I encountered a similar problem when I played my Witch last week. My 17th level witch was facing bodaks guardians at the Wells of Darkness. At first, I was hesitant to use Evil Eye Hex given the fluff description, but decided to use it given that there was no statement that explicitly said "this is a mind-affecting effect."
At the time, I was debating whether to use Agony Hex, but ruled that out given that it requires a Fortitude saving throw and it doesn't affect objects (thus, undead would be immune to its effect).
Personally, I like the idea of having Evil Eye Hex affect any creature regardless of type.

Word. I don't care either way. I'd just like the words in the description of the ability to be less vague and I'd REALLY appreciate an official clarification before the next time we play. It seems like hexes will be the fallback for most witches and I want to play it the way it was intended.
