Round 2: Summoner and Witch

Silver Crusade

This was a fun day for PF, as it was the second time my friends and I got to try out a playtest for a class, so this time we had more of an idea of what to do with it. I was running this game, and the game was held at levels 7-9, with our Summoner at Lv 8.

The Eidolon he was using was a biped based on Weapon combat, wielding an over sized Falchion as well as being a large sized creature (for melee right now, it's the only way to go, just constantly buffing size), which for the most part just played an auxiliary role in our party's melee group.

One fun thing to note was that when a party member died in combat, he just asked the summoner if he could run the Eidolon, which allowed him to continue participating in the battle. The "player swapped" control of the Eidolon helped again when my PCs actually rebelled against each other, a 2 on 2 battle breaking out as two gave themselves up to the horrors of the campaign world and accepted evil into themselves. Rather than getting angry, I just let them take up the role of DM and played the Eidolon myself, which was a lot of fun.

As a team, they almost work together too well, but they're still restricted enough (by size, spell list, ect) to be balanced against the wizard, cleric, and other favorites, especially the druid.

I think just a lack of smaller sized evos are the only problem we have, as for the Eidolon to remain melee competent, he has to increase in size, which is quite irritating.

I'm trying to get together an all playtest game sometime this week, I'll be posting more data once I get that!

Oh yeah, forgot a bit about combat.

On a standard round, the Eidolon would swing with a +16/+11 with all modifiers included, a bit less than the fighter of the group, and would do on average 38 damage a hit, a bit more than the fighter, but not by much. However our fighter had specialized in tripping, which was something that the feat load of an Eidolon can not handle, giving our group's melee a bit more versatility in combat. While the base numbers for Fighter v. Eddy were similar, the fighter had a far greater AC than the Eddy; 29 v. 22, which made our Eddy a class cannon, pretty much forcing the Diehard feat and a heavy reliance on Life link. With those two, it stood it's ground about the same as the fighter, but really only had one thing to do the entire round, which makes it seem a bit less appealing as a melee class. While the Eddy can go trip/grab/EAT PEOPLE style, it pulls away from it's melee enough that the fighter would have out damaged it, making it a fair trade off in this players estimation.

How were you getting a +16/+9? Logic dictates that the second attack, being 5 less than the first, would have either made it a +16/+11 or a +14/+9.
