Thanks babe. :(

Seriously though....any ideas on what to tell the kids?

Fin went to Golarion to become the first in a new race of Rabbitfolk.

One more ghost

I'm so sorry to hear that, Moorluck and Solnes :( You have my sympathies.

A friend of mine had a leash-trained rabbit, and I can remember I got to take him for a walk one time. They're so cute.

Back when I had Flint, I would take him to walk on the boulivard, the girls loved him.

Guess "He ran away" is out. Since he was an inside bunny.

When the fish died, we told Caitlin they went on holiday. They've been on holiday for a year now...

They are cute. And Fin was prettier than most. He was a calico rex. And so fluffy and shiny.

You know Arden though, she doesn't forget a thing. She'd just keep asking for years when he was coming back. :/

Yeah I know, Caitlin's the same, which is why I really expected her to say more about it, but she's only asked 2 or 3 times since about when they're coming back.

Are you guys wanting advice? I can't tell.

If you've got any, I respect you enough to listen.

Wow. I'm so sorry for you & Arden (and Solnes and the others). As terrible as you feel right now, remember you were there for him at the end and he left knowing he was loved.

I didn't want to compound your sorrow, or what you're facing tomorrow, by weighing in.

For what it's worth, I'd say this is a significant enough loss to have a serious talk, on their level, about death. They may also find it comforting to have a funeral for Fin. When we were kids, we had a neighbor kid whose parents always made up a story about what happened to his animals, and when he got old enough to figure it out, he was always bringing that up.

I second the notion about the funeral. Allow them to be a part of it.

Thanks M. Sounds like good advice, Solnes and I will discuss how to explain it to them, since I wasn't exactly coddled as a kid I tend to be far to direct and sometimes harsh. But If she'll let me I want to bury him under the fairy by the front porch.

They kinda understand death. My grandmother died 3 years ago and Kellen was old enough to remember. But I don't think they understand it thouroughly. How would they?

But good advice. We'll just have to work out how to tell them.

Sure man, hope it helps. You guys hang in there. You may say you weren't coddled, but you're definitely the man for this job. A&@!&*!s wouldn't have held Fin as he passed, or be so concerned about how their children would be affected by it.

I'm thinking Kellen will stay home from school. And we will try the funeral, maybe it will help if they can say bye.

I think I will try to sleep some now. I have been feeling ucky. And we have a ucky day in the morning.

Good night guys.

RPG Superstar 2012

We had a memorial for Cutie Cheeks, our hamster, when he died. Our kids seemed to appreciate it.

And thank you.

There can be a purity to children's grief that is something to behold.

I'm trying to remember this line form the novel I just finished, where the main character has the realization that sadness is not the opposite of happiness, but a measure of it, and in it own way, a beautiful thing. (Not that I'm suggesting anything so complicated for children, for goodness' sake. Just couldn't help thinking of it.)

Goodnight: I'm praying for you guys.

Good night M. And thanks for the advice, for the prayers, for being a helluva good guy.

And with that I am worn out. Time to crawl into Solnes arms and hope for dreamland. Good night Fawtlers.

Nite all.

Moorluck & Solnes: I hope everything goes well for you guys.

Damn this has been a bad day all around.

Sorry to the Moore clan, I know you guys will find a way.

couldn't get to sleep earlier because of my roommates fighting. The alcoholic is drunk and trying to explain himself to a social drinker, and myself. Dave and myself come from alcoholic backgrounds and dislike that aspect.

well night all.

Morning all. Sorry to hear about your untimely loss Solnes and Moorluck. I would advise telling the kids the truth. Nothing grates on kids more later in life when a parent 'sheilds' them by lying. Allow them to say goodbye. My 2 CP

Anyway, off to start the day. I am very happy it is Friday though. See y'all in the PM.

*blink*

Scarab Sages

Solnes, Moorluck, sorry to hear about the loss of your little, fluffy family member. That always sucks.

Otherwise, I hope everyone has a great day.

We were honest with the kids, they took it well enough I suppose. Arden was the one that was hit hardest, she has asked if we can get another rabbit. We're going outside to hold his funeral in a bit.

RPG Superstar 2012

You did the right thing by telling your children. You probably already know this, but resist the temptation to go out and get another rabbit right away.

Liberty's Edge Contributor, RPG Superstar 2012

So long, everyone.

Somber morning Moorluck and Solnes. I know your rabbit will be missed by all, and here's hoping everyone is able to grieve and look to brighter tomorrows together.

Agreed. Or there may be another animal down the line that may be of interest (but if I can recall, doesn't one of your kids have severe allergies?).

Ha!

I think I may have snapped it overnight as I had a wet shirt collar. Unfortunately I drank something cold to take meds this morning and gimped the thermometer. Will have to check later.

As an added suggestion, you guys should buy arose bush or something and plant it next to Fin's grave. That's what I did when my cats died.

Silver Crusade

I'm a little stressed right now. My partner has come down with a nasty head cold (a lot of that has been going around), only he has to take a standardized test tomorrow for his teaching certification, and it is only offered once a year. Of all the times to get sick, it's when he has to be at his absolute best. :/

He's still the man in Guardians of the Galaxy.

Kellen is allergic to dogs...or certain breeds of dogs. We have a cat. But we will probably give in and get them another bunny. We aren't perfect and Arden wants one bad. Just not one that looks like Fin, and maybe a lil girl bunny.

We buried him under my Fairy Statue out side and marked his grave with a marble stone. Then we had bought flowers and the kids said bye. :(

It's good for kids to have closure when it comes to something like that. My first dog tht I had from the age of five until I turned 18 develped Leukimia and had to be put to sleep. I never got the chance to say goodbye and it still haunts me sometimes, even though I knew what happened to him. I'm glade your kids got to say goodbye to Fin.

Closure is a hard thing. My beagle-mix had been suffering since mid 2008, but was still functioning. I think she had some sort of a stroke when we took her to a different groomer to save on cost and she never came out the same. She eventually regressed by having canine dysfunction syndrome. In the past several months, it was getting harder for her to walk or stand at posture when eating or relieving herself. A part of me was hoping she would choose the time to pass away, but she was still eating and drinking as normal. It wasn't until the middle of last month when I decided I could cope with it. Recent pictures on my FB was on the morning before we went to the vet.

I believe the reason we have our american bulldog puppy was to prepare / replace the loss / void that I knew was going to be forthcoming. It made the bridging easier to handle.

RPG Superstar 2012

Solnes, sorry to tell you how to parent.

I'm going to take a break for a while. I'm not contributing much here.
