I don't have a reason to get up, but I still can't sleep. Unrelated to current scenario as it has been occurring well prior to it.
Mairk - I hadn't posted yet because the missus wasn't home yet, but I'm half thinking I shouldn't. Knowing how well potential future employers can tap into employee prospects' history by scouring the web for services such as FB and whatnot, I think it would be a better idea to refrain from making any allusions there, right?
I can always let off steam here. :D
Oh yes, and good morning, FaWTLers! Today is the first day of my new life.
Good thinking. Yes, some employers do check Google, FB, etc.

EDIT ok Urizen

Just one of many reasons I'm something of a neo-Luddite when it comes to social networking sites. I'm sure if the wrong person at my main job knew I was playing D&D it would lead to an awkward conversation about me worshipping Satan somehow.

Do "chicksters" still exist?

Hi all.
Urizen - Sorry to hear about what happened. I really ought to be more careful myself, although if they decided they wanted to cut me, they could use chronic lateness as well. Basically if they want to get rid of me, they have a laundry list of reasons they could use... Do they have a lot of documented instances of warning you about internet use or anything? If not, you might still be eligible for unemployment (or even if they do, some companies simply haven't been fighting unemployment claims lately, so it's always worth a try). I know you'll get through this okay.

Not to be a pollyanna, but that might be why they fired him in this way. Unemp goes a bit in getting through a rough time.

That's disappointing to hear, as I think dwarves are great. If your friend is a real friend, he'll loan you the copy for a few weeks. First week, keep it under you pillow for easy night reading. Next week you'll keep it in the kitchen, next to the oven so you access it while cooking. The final week, keep it next to the toilet for quality meditation. Then return it and give your final opinion on the volume.

Well since I am GMing and he is playing I think it is safe to say I can borrow it. I have just noticed that a lot of the Paizo developers are not wow'd by dwarves and I think at first glance that this shows in the book. I much prefer the KQ take on Dwarves as sort of old eastern european money lenders. But hey thats just me.

I'm a big fan of the KQ dwarves, but not so much on the moneylending part as they are an androgenous race that noone knows much about and are DAMN harsh to outsiders. The part where someone got slapped in the face every time they pronounced the name of their people wrong(or something) REALLY got to me. Reminded me of some really old members of my family and some things they got touchy about in the family history.

I've always loved the traditional portrayals of dwarves. To me, dwarves are really just men, their earthy side emphasized. Where are you getting the KQ material on Dwarves? It's not OD?
Yes both what is in KQ and OD. I have only just touched the surface of Ironcrags though since once again I don't have a copy.
I love soemthings about Paizo dwarves. The quest for sky being one of them.

I seem to recall a chat were Mr Jacobs said that he almsot wished he did not have to include them. I may remmeber it wrong.
The book is very steriotypic of well the way dwarves have been made in D N D for the last several years and while I understand that, I always felt they did not get as rich of a culture as they deserved. With the minor yet interesting changes done for other races I was IDK wishing for more. But then again I have as of yet to read it all the way through so I may be in for a shock or two. Which would be welcome.

It's interesting to me when dwarves and elves both share the characteristic of "harsh to outsiders."
When I run I tend to give the Elves a "master race" complex. This tends to make the players 1 not want to play an elf but 2 respect them even if they are not out and out racists. Thats what a drow is for.

None, actually. I already thought of that. They will likely state that we signed an annual code of conduct on a yearly basis, blah blah blah. But there are no priors documented that I can be sure of. I'll be filing here shortly online once the missus is done doing her online course so I don't interrupt the shared bandwidth.

Of course, every company handles it differently, but I have heard of companies that don't fight unemployment claims unless they have something ironclad, because it can take company resources to respond to the claims, go to hearings, etc. I'm hoping that's your company. (I have also heard of companies that fight every claim tooth and nail, so I'm hoping that's not your employer.)

Yeah it is the annual Trappers Rendezvous and goes for the weekend. They get to do cold weather camping but it looks like it will warm up for them. They also get to trade with each other for "stuff" so who knows what we will end up with.
EDIT I hate my typos.

Urizen, I hope some good things develop as you pursue all options.
CrimJ, I think the Chief was really just expressing his own preferences. I guess I'd be surprised if that came into play professionally. How else has dissed dwarves?
Oh no I am sure it was just his personal beef with them. Thats well and fine, You can't love everythign about this game, youd go nuts. I think he was also just givign his dismay about how, well bland they tend to come off as. Heck even Peter Jackson's LotR didn't help. Lord knows those poor assed DnD movies did nothing to help. Just so far the Dwarf book looked mostly more of the same bland yeck that has been out before. I find that kinda sad. If you read closley to Tolkiens backgroudn for the dwarves it is far from bland. They all reincarnate or believe that they do. As such they are all named for famous ancestors. Closed and insular they come off as well Jews in pre WWII europe. Not liked much but tolerated in thier own communities and for services they can render, with no true home of thier own. But hey thats just me, and I do not post such on the actually books thread simply because I have as of yet to read it all and once again may just be mistaken about its depth of the subject. Also it is only so big :) it has to leave something for GM's to fill in.

Going to watch Ghostbusters with my kid. He saw it in a store a while back and insisted that we see it, so I requested it from Netflix. I only kinda liked it the first time around, so I've been putting off watching it. Sigh. But now the kid is coming down with the same cold I have so I need an excuse to keep him resting. :/

Well, it would be to their disadvantage as they also hold my first and second mortgage. If they ask why I cannot pay on them, I'll chastize them for asking a stupid question. :D I'm familiar with what they do have documented, but nothing to the nature that I have received previous warning. I have previous supervisory/managerial experience with the company.
I got unemployment out of the way, so it's time to brush up my resume skills. Ugh! :P
