I hoped you would, but didn't want to assume...

The orc zombie reels from Roylenna's fire and Badru cuts it down. Then the goblin zombies swarm Badru and Ka'kara. The latter gets an AoO. There are four of them in all, and you can all take a shot at them.
...and make Perception checks to notice anything else stirring.
Rhianna Sanbury |
Seeing Artival's beam strike home while her own misses, Rhianna asks plaintively, "How do you do that?" She wtches his aiming technique and tries awkwardly to mimic it as she points toward one of the oncoming goblin zombies. "Kro ‘slou ra jeuza!"
Another disrupt undead: attack 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15, damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5.
Perception: 1d20 ⇒ 8.
Lyria Ghoulbane |
As the goblin zombies approach quickly, Lyria presents her holy symbol by raising it up into the air while singing a few words of prayer. The air around her seems to shimmer and move as a wave of red-colored energy emnates from her, moving at once in all directions. As the wave hits the undead, they seem to burst into flames, filling the cave with the stench of burnt rotten flesh and smoke. Turning to Rhianna, she says, grinning but looking tired: "That's how you do it".
Channel Energy for 10 damage to all undead at 30 ft radius. They do not get to add their channel resistance to their saves.
Looking around, Lyria quickly scans the area for more advancing undead.

Ka'kara finishes off the smoking remains of the goblin zombies.
AOO on goblin zombie: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15
damage: 2d8 + 7 ⇒ (1, 4) + 7 = 12
Raging attack on goblin zombie: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17
damage: 2d8 + 9 ⇒ (1, 5) + 9 = 15
Cleave another goblin zombie: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (5) + 11 = 16
damage: 2d8 + 9 ⇒ (1, 5) + 9 = 15
Roylenna's eyes go wide with amazement as the goblins burst into flames, "Wow! I am certainly glad you decided to join us Lyria." With a bemused smile, "Ka'kara might not get a chance to hit anything else if you keep that up." At the same time she touches the giantess' calf allowing her heavenly fire to race over her wounds and heal them.
Heavenly fire touch: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Damage: 1d4 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Another disrupt undead: attack 1d20 + 5, damage 1d6 + 1.
Perception: 1d20.
"I don't know, Rhianna, I just can," Artival says with a laugh. "The family always asked me the same question, and I couldn't explain it to them, either. It just happened one day, and I've been able to do some things ever since."

Lyria tried casting Light, to no effect. The darkness is impenetrable even to Darkvision, cutting your visual range in half.
Lyria, Ka'kara:
Under your combined assault the goblin zombies all perish. You are now at liberty to explore the rest of the cave.
Badru Akhensaranrae |
Lyria tried casting Light, to no effect. The darkness is impenetrable even to Darkvision, cutting your visual range in half.
Ah, I missed that.
Listening carefully for signs of approaching enemies, Badru takes his time looking around the cave. "Curse this vile darkness. Where does it emanate from?"
Lyria Ghoulbane |
Regaining her strength, Lyria moves among and examines the zombie corpses and tries to find out anything useful about them. Suddenly, she stops and listens to the sounds in the cave. She whispers to her group-mates: "I think I heard something moving deeper in the cave, and in any case, those are probably not the only other inhabitants in this cave. We should move along the cave walls so that we won't be surrounded by whatever else is out there".
Ka'kara Furyheart |
Ka'kara nods at Lyria's words, "Yes, I hear them shifting around out there. Probably waiting for us to leave the entrance and cut off our way of escape. Be wary of those ones that freeze you with their touch." Slapping her greatsword's blade repeatedly into her off-hand palm, "It'll be the last mistake they make."
Badru, she is still down 8 hit points.
BT, can I tell which direction the majority of the hissing is coming from?

That would be to the north.

Thanks for covering, Ka'kara, you've got her down better than I do sometimes.
Assuming that Ka'kara has shared the direction she thinks the sounds emanate from, Roylenna casts Dancing Lights and starts moving them back and forth north of the totems around 10 feet. With reduced vision, I don't expect to see much, but they should at least allow her to backlight anything approaching from that direction.
"Mahaffy, do your dwarven eyes detect any new visitors from the north?"
Working on the map, but you guys did great without it. Maybe we don't need it?
Ka'kara Furyheart |
Thanks for covering, Ka'kara, you've got her down better than I do sometimes.
Anytime, happy to hear I do her justice :)
Assuming that Ka'kara has shared the direction she thinks the sounds emanate from,
Yes, she absolutely shares that.
Pointing her blade to the north and Roylenna's dancing lights, "Let's take the fight to them so they won't have the chance to sneak up on us from behind."
Lyria Ghoulbane |
"Be careful. These zombies have no gems in their mouths, which means they were not animated by any regular spell, as much as such a spell could be called regular".
To Badru: "Unfortunately I cannot sense anything deeper in, although I do feel this place is truly evil in its essence. We should finish our work here and cleanse this place".

Ka'kara is for heading directly into the fray, so North. If I had any clue about how to do a map I would help but alas I am sadly lacking. I have set up maps using ttoprpg but a) would need a map to put into it and b) given instructions on how to post it. Not even sure that program would work for this.

I am planning to modify the map from last time, it's just been a crazy time at work. When I get home, more keyboard time is not particularly interesting. I'll see what I can do this evening.

Just let me know if it works out for you. If not, I'll try to put something together tomorrow.
Ka'kara Furyheart |
We are in a good defensive situation here. If we advance , we won't be able to defend our most fragile friends . Let them come to us .
I got the impression that they are not going to come to us Mahaffy. If you think you can get them to than be my guest. I would certainly prefer that but I think they have wised up to our tactics.
Black Tom |
This is your current positions. If you wish to move north or further into the cave, please state your positions and marching order. I want everybody onboard when trouble hits.
Badru would see a little further, but there is not much to see there anyway.
And of course Ainvar gets a hero point. Should probably be more, but need to keep them in check.
Black Tom |
OK, I get the general idea, but does that mean that Ka'kara too will be advancing along the wall?
Do you think you could put that together, Ainvar? I suggest that we put Ka'kara at MN5-6 and arrange you behind her.
That's when trouble hits. Roll for initiative, everyone.

Yeah, you need to rest before levelling, so I'll tally the xp if and when you get out alive.

Aye aye, cap'n. I don't have access to the map at the moment, but should have your changes available before end of day. I'm envisioning the three spellcasters lined up on the wall (in order: Rhianna, Artival, Roylenna) with Badru to their right and Mahaffy running rearguard. If you have something different in mind for your character, let me know here and I will adjust.
Initiative 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (13) + 3 = 16
Roylenna will put the Dancing Lights in position to light ahead of Ka'kara and about 10' from the wall she's advancing along. I believe (without the map) that would put them about 10' ahead and 10' to her right
Black Tom |
You all beat the initiative of the ghouls, so you are free to act. Unfortunately they keep out of sight (although you can her them shuffling, snickering and drooling), so if you want to attack them you'll have to ready actions.
Ka'kara is going to get an AoO as they come storming in. You can post your actions in any order.
Lyria Ghoulbane |
As the group huddles and moves slowly next to the cave's wall, Lyria stops for a moment. Looking at her friends, she says: "They're coming. I can feel them". Indeed, a few seconds afterwards, the sounds of undead creatures can be heard by everyone from somewhere in the complete darkness surrounding the small sphere of light coming from the party's sources. A feel of dread envelopes Lyria, and she pulls out her holy symbol, pressing it into her hand for comfort. As the ghouls draw nearer, she readies herself for the fight.
Lyria readies her action (Channel Positive Energy) until the ghouls move closer.
