Welcome Welcome Vinsane...

Yeah, this game went wildfire! I'm very happy for that as well! heh.

T'skrang from the same village would work, remember, all T'skrang from a single village are "related" since the eggs are cared for separately, not being cared for by a single mother or father.

Txoro, are you using paizo boards to run the game? would rpol.net be a better location?

Male Human

Txoro,

A quick question for ya..

Going through Character Creation, it says you can 8 ranks to distribute between the Starting Talents of your Discipline.

It also says you may choose one Talent Option freely.

Can we buy a rank in another Talent Option if we wish, to start with? Or do we just start with one Talent Option and that's it?

Can we go back and buy some of those other Talent Options when we advance?

Thanks!

I run several games on the Paizo boards. It lets me run everything in one location. Plus I don't know what RPOL.net is...

Thanks Txoro. I haven't fully settled on a character yet. I am debating between a Windling Thief, Obsidiman Ilusionist, or an Ork Beastmaster. I am happy playing any of the above, so if there is a preference for the group, please do let me know.

No, you're limited to ONE talent Option at each circle. (According to RAW)

(Although in the future I might allow 2.)

I have to research the second question, but I think the RAW answer is no.
(Although I might allow it, since for casters, the Spell Matrix is one of them)

Male Human

Thanks, I'll get back to work! I have started and got some stuff stated up. Jusr lettin' you know so that you don't think I'm holding up the game.

And actually, if you can pick up a talent option every circle, that's not bad at all. The PDFs are harder to flip through casually, and I didn't see that.

no prob, I realize everyone is doing the Christmas thing, so we'll probably really get the game moving after the holidays.

Let's get as much character development for the experienced people as we can, the more detailed the background...such as filling out the "Character Questionaire" the more bonuses I will assign, anything from extra silver, legend points, or possibly additional starting legend points or skill points. The more detailed a character is at the beginning I've found, the more likely the player is to stick around.

Also it give me more to work with character wise.

In misguided ambitions at least some of the players will all be from a newly opened Kaer, the other players will be met on the road.

Still haven't been able to swag my new book yet due to a combination of not being able to get to the office they are holding it at on Saturday and now a stinky cold which has me typing this from my bed. So I've been working off my 1Ed rules, and have been playing about with an Obsidiman Weaponsmith.

I suppose the clue is in the name but in 1st Ed I can't find anything about crafting armour (aside from the skill). By that I mean the Weaponsmith discipline has talents like 'Forge Blade', the karma ritual describes forging a poor blade then breaking it etc. Any suggestions on whether (and how) you could build an 'ARMOURsmith' instead?

If that's not feasible under the rules, I'll maybe try a Warrior instead. Haven't seen what AJ has come up with but I'll try and make it a bit different to that if I can.

Liberty's Edge

Txoro, after more thought this weekend, I've settled on a female Elf Swordmaster. Her specialty will be Bladesmen. Is that cool?

The new general rules give much more info on the craft/craft armor/craft weapon skills.

A weaponsmith can also use half magic to create weapons and armor. (and at 5th circle, you can craft living armor, such as living crytal armors and blood pebble. Which will be important for an Obsidiman, since you can't wear regular armor at all. Though you can use regular shields.)

Forge armor is an 8th Circle talent as well.

So all Weaponsmiths are also armorsmiths.

Sounds fine.

Lineup

Spoiler:
Grufflehead [Obsidiamn Weaponsmith]
Black Tom [T'skrang Elementalist]
AJCarrington (warrior type: dwarf or elf.)
Scranford [windling nethermancer]
Watcher [scout]
Kendrosmeren [Elf Swordmaster]
Prashat
Vinsane

Alright, nice we've moving right along now...

Just a quick note: I'm going to be a bit generous with Legend points, Second circle will come pretty quickly, hopefully 3rd and 4th circle as well, Since 4th circle is where the fun really starts with Threadweaving.

I will be working in "downtime" for training and advancement into the game as well.

Splendid - I think I have my PC then!

Planning on making it through the snow to get the book tomorrow. If I get the rough outline done and some idea of background while I still have forum access that will let you DMPC him if required, and I can fill in any blanks once I get connected again.

The Exchange

I've settled on an Ork Beastmaster. I'll start working on the character background. As for my familiarity with Earthdawn, I have all the early books (1st edition) and recently picked up the PDF for 3E. If someone can give me a brief run down of key changes between editions it would be helpful.

I played in a rocking campaign back in the day. Unfortunately, the 1st Edition rules completely fall apart at higher levels. Hopefully this is no longer an issue.

Thank you for the opportunity; I look forward to gaming with you all.

One of the main changes is that certain actions don't change steps, they provide a static bonus instead. So an aggressive atack I believe would only give a +3 instead of increasing the step by 3.

One of the bigger changes was the character generation.

I'm still going through the books myself.

Just testing how aliases work.

This is my Obsidiman Weaponsmith, Solonchak. I'm assuming backstories can go in the profile?

OK, should have my alias for the game set up now (handy picture in the list, too!)

Backstory now in my profile. If anyone wants to piggy back on part of it, I've left a hook in there for someone else, feel free.

Txoro, hope that's the sort of thing you wanted. Due to weather it looks like I'll still be online till tomorrow night (UK time) then away from first thing on Xmas eve.

Edit: However, same snow that is keeping me in town, means I *still* haven't been able to go and get my book so no actual stats yet I'm afraid.

Txoro, can we contact you via e-mail if we want to discuss character ideas with you?

This is Minalorién, Elf Swordmaster.

In the original gamer connection thread he posted his junk e-mail address: Die.DieSpamDie (at) gmail

Thanks for the reminder I should be working on my character!

Spoiler:
I don't think Obsidimen have children if I remember correctly, I think they're born from their liferocks. I'll have to re-read my stuff to refresh my memory. I know they go dormant if they remain underground for too long though, thus most Obsidimen either went to their liferocks or lived in Citadels during the scourge.

Well, would you adam and eve it? Guess I should have read my Denizens of Earthdawn properly! Some hasty changes required there I think...

Edit: OK, some swift editing done. His 'parents' are now the elders of the group.

Otherwise, seem OK?

I'm quite happy for you to stat him up as well seeing as I'm bookless and now the stats are done differently. I can see the resident board optimisers throwing their hands up in horror at such a 'suboptimal' combo of race and discipline but this sounds like a lot of fun and I'm really getting into the character - good call asking for a background and to complete the questionnaire.

Attributes-wise I'm thinking pretty much base Obsidiman STR, low DEX, decent to good TOU, slightly above average PER and good WILL, average CHA.

A book! I have a book!

Txoro, I should be able to stat up Solonchak myself now. I'll skim through it and try to put some numbers together later on.

Shall I post it in my profile or mail you?

Just post it in your profile. Huzzah! I got a nice fat paycheck yesterday from my freelance CAD work, so I ordered my Player's Companion AND Shards.

This will be my scout's name and avatar..

I have not updated the profile with his sheet and background, but I'm emailing Txoro the PDF character sheet to his spam e-mail now...

Oh! It was operator error! I had the user and domain name right, but didn't add the 'dot com' for some reason. When I glanced at it again it was obvious.

On it's way!

OK, profile updated with stats/talents/skills. I ended up doing it in more of a hurry than I should so have very likely made a mistake or two along the way. I'll make any adjustments that are pointed out when I get the chance.

As my plans are now entirely in the hands of the weather (3:30AM here and temperature already well below freezing, but with no snow in sight), if I don't post again for a couple of days it's because I'm away. Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays to you all - look forward to starting the game in earnest in the New Year

rhetorical question? me and I am sure to lose Dad/11,RPGr/2,WarGamer/8

Seems I am late to the game. I have an older edition of the rules and would love a reason to purchase the 3rd edition....can you give me one? :)

Short of reading the rules a while back, I am really a complete noob, but I would be happy to play whatever character type you need, if in fact you have any need.

I'll otherwise keep to sidelines with envy as give myself a refresher on the rules.

Let me know!

I will give you a reason to buy the rules! Welcome Aboard!

Wow, I've never had so many players in one game...Guess cuz it's the only game in town!

Even with 9 players, a single named horror can still decimate you...heh.

Amazon two day shipping -- I'll have the books on Monday! This is going to be great. Thanks for starting this!

EDIT: Bummer... Tuesday after work is when I will see the books. I have an earlier edition book to review so I'm good! Very much looking forward to this.

I'm glad I can run it and provide happiness to all! heh.

And a Merry Xmas...

Bumping this thread..

I have transferred my stats over to my profile. I took your advice and used mapmaking at as artisan skill and took melee attack as a skill to replace it.

However, I passed on Versatility at this time, keeping the talents I originally had. I want to see how the character "feels" and then I'll have an idea of what extra talent he needs to round him out through Versatility.

I'll be thinking of a background now!

Looks pretty good, your unconscious/death rating of 26/34 don't match the boxes is the only thing I see wrong at the mo.

How's everyone else coming along?

I am supposed to get my books today but I am not believing that at the moment when I look at the tracking information. They still have time to deliver.

I see being ready tomorrow at the soonest.

Happy New Year; I was away for the holidays. I'll have the character done by Wednesday.

No worries, I'm just happy to run the game, let's just make sure everyone is up to speed.

Happy New Year everyone.

Back to work (bah!) but very much looking forward to this. I did manage a few brief bursts online over the holidays but it's nice to be back to a good connection.

I assume my character is OK Txoro? I didn't take the book away with me but I'll be reading it over the next while to get up to speed with the changes in 3rd Ed.

So since we have so many people playing, some of you will be from Kaer Tsennan, which just opened when it was discovered by a Throalic Expedition, the rest of you will be part of the expedition that found it, and stayed to help out the Tsennans as they transitioned back to life outside the Kaer. This will allow those familiar with Earthdawn to have a little more knowledge of Barsaive, while those who are relatively new to the game, or have played only a few times, can be from Tsennan.

Just let me know what you decide in your write-up, and I'd like 3-5 to be from Tsennan.

Given the background I wrote, put me down as one of the kaer dwellers even though I've got a bit of previous ED experience.
