I'm going to be running Pathfinder Society at my store in Philadelphia soon, and I was curious when we should expect the 2.1 rules update? I have quite a few players interested in playing oracles or cavaliers and I wasn't sure if they were legal immediately or if we had to wait for the 2.1 rules. We're running our first games this Saturday and wasn't sure if there was a chance the rules might be out before then, though I realize Paizo may want to wait until all six playtest classes have been released before opening the classes up for organized play.
Also, on a similar note, is the Bestiary going to make it into the 2.1 update? I have a lot of players who want to play kobolds or orcs or whathaveyou, and there's currently no mention of the Bestiary in the rules. Will we see monstrous PCs opened up for PFS play, or does that contradict the way Golarion works?
Thanks!

Yeah, I saw that other post, but it just said it was being pushed back a week, not when that would mean it would actually be available. So, there is no official firm release date then?
Thanks for your help!
he had said in the 2.0 erretta thread that he originally hoped to have it out by thanksgiving... So I would guess a week after that, give or take

I'm not a fan of firm dates when it comes to rules updates. "Soon" or "in a few weeks" is the best you're going to get.
As for the Bestiary--while parts of it will be in 2.1 as open, I will not be opening up any new races. Golarion is a humanocentric world and kobold fighters don't really fit the picture of the Pathfinder Society we're trying to establish. For at least the foreseeable future, standard core races from the Core Rulebook are going to be the only race choices.

Go ahead and use the oracle and cavalier for Society play. I can't think of anything off the top of my head that I'll need to adjust in 2.1 beyond simply saying, "yes, use them."
The only clarification I think would be needed would be regarding any updates to the classes. I assume it should be understood that when the final classes come out, a conversion may be necessary, though people like to have things spelled out in official rules. Along the same lines, if newer playtest elements (like more cavalier orders or additional oracle foci) are released, can players swap these out to get a chance to test them as well?

I do want to get pregens up at the same time as 2.1, though.

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but are the Summoner and Witch also available? I assume the Cauldron Hex isn't allowed (Free Brew Potion feat and +4 to Craft (Alchemy) checks)![](/WebObjects/Frameworks/Ajax.framework/WebServerResources/wait30.gif)

The summoner and witch will be legal when 2.1 goes live next week.
Ouch! So we can use Oracle and Cavalier now, but not the Summoner or Witch until next sometime next week?
A few GMs are flying down from Sydney to slot-zero some scenarios with a few GMs here in Melbourne for four days over this weekend, so we're all prepared to run them at local cons in January. We were really hoping to give the new classes a playtest too - it would really help us become familiar with the new classes before players hit us with them! It seems a shame not to be able to do so?

Minor note about the inclusion of the cavalier and oracle. In the
downloadable playtest document for these two classes it says "In
addition, these classes will be legal for use in Pathfinder
Organized Play with the release of the version 2.1 of the Guide to
Society Organized Play".
The most recent Guide to Pathfinder Society Organized Play which I
downloaded and printed several days ago is listed as version 2.1 with
a date of 9/15/09. This may seem like a silly question but in this
case are the versions 2.01 and 2.1 meant to be one in the same.
Otherwise from a numerical standpoint this is a bit confusing & I want
to make sure my playtest group is doing things by the book. Thanks.

No, 2.1 could also be written as 2.10 so that it shows it is different from 2.01, so when it goes live, 2.10 will be the only official guide.

Thanks for the kind words and the excitement. Hopefully the PDF will leave edit today or tomorrow but don't be terribly surprised if it doesn't come out of edit until Monday or so. Our editorial team is very busy and this is an extra project.
My wife has a PFS character she hasn't converted from 3.5 (she hasn't played it since). Can she convert it into one of the new classes? Or is the window for converting characters closed... I'll go look at the conversion doc.
