Lamsfel |
DM Shisumo:
Is it possible to identify any of the party as Pathfinders, since the local has already stated that Hilrune and I are.
The elf stands, proving to be unusually tall and slender, even for his race. Despite his height, his movements are sure and graceful as greets you with a small bow.
With a slight teasing tone, he says, "Goodwoman Martine, it pains me to hear that you are sorry to see us. We truly have attempted to be acceptable guests of your fine order." The twinkle in his eye belies any pain he might claim, however.
He turns to the party members accompanying the gnomish woman, "Please accept my assurance that we will do our best to not interrupt your studies, kinsman and friends. I am Lamsfel, and pleased to make your acquaintance."
With that, he waits, remaining standing.
Lamsfel |
"I agree with Ar'deth on this. It's good to see fellow pathfinders. If you don't mind my asking, are you returning from an assignment or heading to one?"
With a graceful sweeping gesture of his long arm toward the scrolls and tomes spread about on the table before him, Lamsfel replies, "In the midst of one, of sorts. I have an interest in the history of the area and we are taking the opportunity to see what the Abbey's library might yield on the subject. May I ask the same of you?"
Rufus Reeven |
Rufus has remained silent for most of the evening, studying the various members of the temple but saying little. When part of the group was lead to the library, he followed.
Seeing the two new people, he nods, saying "Greetings. I'm Rufus, hunter and tracker by trade. May your paths always run true."
Corath |
With a graceful sweeping gesture of his long arm toward the scrolls and tomes spread about on the table before him, Lamsfel replies, "In the midst of one, of sorts. I have an interest in the history of the area and we are taking the opportunity to see what the Abbey's library might yield on the subject. May I ask the same of you?"
"Just doing a friend a favor. The least I could do after his compliments for Prettykill."
Martine looks surprised. "You are Pathfinders as well?" she asks, blinking at the group.
Oh shards, orc-half showing...
Corath grimaces.
"Guess my secret's out, huh? I can't speak for the others, but I am."
Rufus Reeven |
Martine looks surprised. "You are Pathfinders as well?" she asks, blinking at the group.
"Yes, for my part at least, though this is my first real mission for them, if you don't consider the initiation test." Rufus goes silent for a few seconds, looking away as if remembering something, then continues, "So, what did you say brought you here?"

"Simple research. This is truly a fine library and its keepers are most kind." He bows slightly to Martine.
DM Shisumo |
Martine nods distractedly back to Lamsfel, looking over the assemblage with a a curious air. "I... suppose I will leave you to discuss your interests in privacy," she says slowly. "Corath, if you still want to see the animals, I will be in the stables when you're ready." She nods to no one in particular, then slips out.
Therin Ulric |
Therin will give a bit of a bow towards the other two. "Therin Ulric, at your service. We travel from the lodge in Magnimar on a journey of discovery to some ruins near here."
He will glance after Martine and nod to her before looking to Hilrune at his question. "It seems that not all is well in the abbey. Factions have formed and there is tension between them."
Corath |
Corath looks between the others and his companions, and realizes he may very well be out of his element. The half-orc using a different word for "talking" does not help, and neither does the fact he is in a room filled with trees he doesn't beleive were dead when they were turned into books.
"It was nice to meet both you, and I hope you have luck in your research. But I need to go make sure one of my other companions did not decide a horse looked like something good to eat."
He leaves the library and exits the abbey, letting out an audible sigh once he's outside. He slips into the stable and greets Martine, scratching PrettyKill under her chin and behind her eye ridges, talking softly as he does so.
"You didn't eat any of the other animals did you? Good girl!"
Once he has greeted PrettyKill to her satisfaction, he turns to Martine.
"I apologize for not saying I was a Pathfinder, but I feared you would have treated me differently, had you known my occupation. Many people cannot look far enough past my heritage to learn who I really am."
Lamsfel |
Hilrune
"If my small talents as a linguist can be of help , do not hesitate . " He then hesitates and continues 'As long as it does not take too much time of our research of course "
"My friend, I can continue our research if you are needed. I hate to think of this fine place torn apart from within by strife."
Turning back to the party, he sits on the edge of the table and continues, "Although... you say you will be searching some ruins in the area? What do you know of them? One of many areas of interest is the ancient - and sometimes, not so ancient - architecture in this area. If my blades would be of use to you, I would relish a chance to see theses ruins for myself. You can only get so much from a book, after all. I'm sure Hilrune is ready for some fresh air, as well. I'm afraid I get immersed and forget to eat if he doesn't remind me."

Martine is grooming her hawk when Corath enters the stables; as he walks up, she tosses the bird into the air, and it flies out into the night. Which is odd, because it's really quite late for a hawk to be hunting. Martine greets the druid with a smile, and accepts his apology with a wave of her hand. "No, no, it's truly none of my business," she says easily. "It just caught me off-guard is all. I guess I'm so used to information being shared that I don't remember that not everyone wants to be a part of that. It's forgotten - please, let's talk about your new companion." She leads him over to one of the stables, where the goblin dog has made a kind of nest in the hay and is clicking its teeth softly to itself. "I think it's a female, actually," Martine murmurs, "but I'm not certain. She's got spur-scars, though, so I'm guessing she was a mount or something."
Corath |
"You would think goblins would at least treat the creatures named after them better. The goblin leading the ones that attacked us was riding her, and had her carrying heavy saddlebags too."
He moves closer and kneels, extending his hand for her to sniff.
"She is different from other dogs, yet I have no reason to see her as anything but a four legged friend. All she needs is good food, a bath, and a name."
Slowly, so he does not startle her, he extends a hand to scrath her gently behind the ears.
Fortitude:1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Ar'dreth |
Oops, guess I let the cat out of the bag. Not really sure why we were hiding it in the first place though, maybe I forgot something :)
As Corath and Martine head off to the stables, Ar'dreth looks at both Hilrune and Lamsfel. "Don't mind me brothers, I am here to study. Let me get out of your way." Ar'dreth then walks to a table furthest away, takes a seat and extracts his spellbook from his pack.
I'm going to make a perception check to see if any books around have arcane markings or contain spells. Perception 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24

The goblin dog eyes the druid suspiciously, hairless tail twitching, but show no reaction, positive or otherwise, to the ear-scratching. This close, the fetid smell of her breath reminds Corath that goblin dogs are carrion eaters, so "good food" might well have connotations he's not used to. The goblin dog's nose never stops twitching, and her attention seems to move continually from Corath to Martine and back again. For her part, the gnome watches with a mixture of curiosity and discomfort, standing just inside the stable doorway without really entering it.

The divine nature of the library foils your efforts to find arcane writings in it. However, Ar'dreth does notice that, among the other books and scrolls scattered across the table in front of Lamsfel are several books on religious sites in the Varisia back-country...

DM S & Hilrune:
Therin Ulric |
Therin isn't exactly the studious type, but he is interested in the new pathfinders. He takes up a seat without actually pulling up a book, keeping an eye on Ar'deth while just listening in to the others and trying to learn a bit more about them without chiming in too much on himself unless directly asked.
DM Shisumo |
Sorry for the silence the last couple days - couple long days at work, and I'm trying to fight off a cold as well. Both things seem to be looking up now, however.
Initiatives please. Also, Hilrune, can I have a Knowledge (planes) check? (Speaking of which, I think you've left off the class-level bonus to your check on your bardic knowledge rolls...)
DM Shisumo |
Corath's Perception:1d20+6
PrettyKill's Perception:1d20+6
PrettyKill has the scent ability, so she may smell it. Then again, this is an unfamiliar place...
EDIT: What are the chances we would both roll 12's!?
Attack roll: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20; damage 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6.
Corath suddenly feels a piercing, agonizing pain in his back as an arrow slams into him, driving deep. He spins to see Martine calmly nocking another arrow on the longbow she carries and raises it toward him once more.
Initiative. Also, Sense Motive check, please.
Therin Ulric |

I believe I still need a +1BaB to be able to draw as part of my movement, correct? Or is that a relic of 3.5? If I could, I would attack, but otherwise, the idea is to position Therin so it will probably have to provoke from him to get to one of the others.
Corath |
Sense Motive:1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Corath cries out in pain as the arrow slams through an opening in his armor. He places a hand over the wound so Nature's Healing can take place, green fire pushing the arrow out and burning the wound to stop the bleeding.
Cure Light Wounds:1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
"This is why I prefer animals over people, they at least will give a warning when they attack you from behind. PrettyKill, bite!"
PrettyKill runs at Martine, teeth flashing, and snaps at the small creature that hurt her friend.
Bite Attack1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Bite Damage1d8 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
DM Shisumo |
Rolling init for Hilrune, just so we know whether to wait for him: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 1 = 11.
Completely ignoring the man between it and its desired target, the thing leaps toward Lamsfel.
It does in fact provoke an AoO from Therin as it moves - feel free to roll it. Also, make me a Will save, please, DC 18.
DM Shisumo |
Even as Corath spins toward his attacker in rage, he notices the strange, glazed-over look her eyes have; it almost seems as though she is not entirely aware of her own actions, or that she is but a puppet on someone else's strings.
Do you still plan to have Prettykill attack her?
Hilrune Velfeldt |
Librarians
Knowledge planes 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
Hilrune begin to make fun of the creature
"First time I see a halfling orc . You should not have eaten so much of your mother's pastries , dearie. It's not good to find girls not that this is something you should concern yourself given your warts ..."
Bardic courage in action : +1/+1 for everyone after my initiative
DM Shisumo |
Corath, you will go next, but hang on because someone else is probably going to get involved next round as well...
DM Shisumo |
Sorry, the weekend went a bit crazy on me. If you need to ever roll for my character to keep from holding things up, feel free.
I would have if you hadn't posted this morning...

Rapiers are d6 weapons. So are short swords, for that matter.
