Well, since my previous attempt to find some players for a random In Nomine/Mutants and Masterminds game fizzled, I thought I'd see about players for some Scion instead. I'm looking for 4-6 players, hopefully all with access to at least Scion: Hero; otherwise, all I'm asking is that you be able to post at least once a day (unless you warn me otherwise, of course).
Any takers?

BTW, I don't have access to Hero:Scion.
So, how are you going to make a character? Do you have any experience at all with Scion and/or Exalted?
Sure I have all 3 books and it will be refreshing to try out a diffent sytem.
As long as you can post regularly, that’s good enough for me! Welcome aboard!
I have them all except the Companion.
Awesome. Let’s do this!
Will we know our parents?
Will everyone be from the same mythos?
Both of those are up to you guys, and I’m guessing “yes” and “no,” respectively.

I don't own the Companion, so I would have to vet stuff individually.
It does seem weird that the entire pantheon would be missing a magician. Let me think about that.
We still need some more players before we can get this show on the road, though...
From the brief descriptions in the Paizo catalog, this potentially sounds like a cool concept for a game.
I'll go to my local gaming store over the weekend and get the appropriate material. Like the others, it may take me a bit of time to make my first character in a new system.
Presuming the archetype is available (perhaps in the Ragnorak material?), I have a keen interest in playing a scion of Vidar, one of the minor gods of the Norse pantheon.
Oh, yes, it looks like I may be in luck. I just found this: http://wiki.white-wolf.com/whitewolf/index.php?title=Vidar.
Reading more of the White Wolf wiki on Scion, I see that they attribute their inspiration for the game to American Gods by Neil Gaiman, which I was actually going to recommend you read if you hadn't. His other book, Anansi Boys, is also quite entertaining and highly recommended.
To the other noobs, there is a good quick overview of Scion here, http://download.white-wolf.com/download/download.php?file_id=838.

Whoa. This game just went from looking as moribund as the IN/M&M game to possibly being ready to go. Catman, you still interested? JZ? If we have 4 players with the book (or some reasonable facsimile thereof), we can actually do this!
If you have a slot available, I have a Scion of Heimdall in mind that I'm interested in playing. I have all the books and could send you a character sheet if you would like to see it.
Here is a readers digest version of his concept.
Scotty is a determined and passionate conspiracy theorist geek (Mulder without the FBI connection) who's intuitive ability to connect vague and seemingly obscure events has led many to think of him as not just a great investigator, but a slightly unhinged, and potentially dangerous kook. But ever since his visitation, he now knows that its his connection to the Guardian of the Bifrost Bridge that is enabling him to see the plans of the titans as they unfold.
Let me know.
Xochipilli Tocal |
I'm still finalizing the character but this is what I got so far.
Raised in the slums of Mexico City by his grandmother.
His charm, intellect and soccer skills earned Tocal the Rhodes scholarship getting an M.D. from Oxford.
Played for the Oxford soccer team and offered Goalkeeper from Manchester United but refused and when back to the slums of Mexico City and started a free clinic.
Some grisly murders started taking place but the police didn't do anything about it.
Read up on forensic techniques and snuck into the morgue to conduct his own investigation, pinning the murders on a local Judge.
The judge had Tocal's clinic burnt to the ground and Tocal beaten and left for dead.
Edit: Tocal is really pretty pretty man, the Senoritas all love him.

@Shisumo Got an answer on the magic god question?
(Maybe Tsuki-yomi?)
I was actually rereading the pantheon when you posted that in order to make my decision. ;)
None of the gods listed really seem like the Magic type. Hachiman comes closest - I suspect he's got some tomes of spells around somewhere in his book collection - but even that is a kind of iffy connection. I can't see it being strong enough to justify the cheaper cost of association. On the other hand, a Scion of Hachiman won't have any real trouble with his/her dad about where the necessary Birthright came from; they won't get the mechanical advantage, but they'd avoid the role-playing complication.

K, cool.
Do you have to learn Magic from a god? Or can you have some other kind of Mentor?
In order to learn any Magic at all, you have to have a Boon (accessed through a Birthright - typically a Relic) that grants access to the Magic Purview. Currently, there are really only two powers in the World potent enough to grant Boons: the gods and the Titans. You can do the math from there, I think.
However, specific spells can be learned from a number of possible teachers, once the potential for magic itself is unlocked.

A relic can only grant access to one boon?
To use Darkness 3 and Animal 3 you would have to have two Relic 3's?
The number of Purviews a relic can offer access to is determined by its rating: 1 Purview per dot. Sometimes Relics offer fewer Purviews than their rating, if they do other things like boost weapon stats or have unique special abilities, but in general, it's 1/dot for a Relic.

So, basically the game 'encourages' you to play a 'younger' version of your parent/god.
You pick the character, boons, abilities you want to play and then find the god that fits. If things do not fit, it costs more.
Do you have to have a relic?
Do you have to take boons?
I am wanting to take Magic and Tsukumo-Gami. If I can't find a God who has Magic then I need to change stuff.
Can you have two God parents?
(Like if one deceived/tricked the other into thinking they were someone else?)
I'm trying to clear things up (I'm a bit confused) because I've been into the Exalted rules lately and they seem 'almost' the same as the Scion rules.

If I had a Relic 4, that gave access to Darkness and Animal and I had a Legend of 3 I could take Darkness 2 and Animal 2.
Right?Shisumo |
Do you have to have a relic?
No, though without one, the only Purview you can access is your pantheon-specific one.
Do you have to take boons?
Also no, though that just leaves you with Epic Attributes.

I guess I'm not seeing the issue here - is the difference between current level x 4 and current level x 5 in experience costs really that big an issue for you?
Can you have two God parents?
(Like if one deceived/tricked the other into thinking they were someone else?)
You can, but only one of them can extend a Visitation to you and officially make you a Scion. You can't double up on godly connections, if that's what you're asking.
I'm trying to clear things up (I'm a bit confused) because I've been into the Exalted rules lately and they seem 'almost' the same as the Scion rules.
That's pretty much accurate, and I'm going to make it slightly worse because I'm gonna fiddle with the rules a bit to make them more similar still (I think Scion's soak rules are broken, so we're going to use Exalted's version instead). Don't sweat it and take your time - we're not gonna be ready to start for a bit yet, I'm pretty sure, because you're not the only newcomer to the game here...
If I had a Relic 4, that gave access to Darkness and Animal and I had a Legend of 3 I could take Darkness 2 and Animal 2.
Right?
That's correct, plus you'd have two more points of Relic to use to either have a special ability or two attached or give yourself a couple extra dice when using the relic or something similar.
fray |
I could get a Relic that grants me access to Magic purview even though my parent doesn't have it?
(Granting me Magic and Tsukumo-Gami)
I don't know the Exalted soak rules either... :)
The 4 or 5 point difference isn't a deal breaker. I'm just talking out loud here. :]
Is it worth having a Ability, that is not connected to a boon, be your max/specialty? I don't want to waste points.

I'd be up for the game if you had room.
Thanks. I will be checking the board a few times this week it seems. :)

Would love to get in on this, though I doubt I could honestly post once per day. Thursdays and weekends would be hard to get online. Also, sounds like I'm a little late to the game.
If youv'e got a waiting list though I'll go ahead and give you my resume so to speak.
Just recently started playing Scion this last weekend. Mostly went over character creation, though we did have a little introductory clift hanger scene just to get people familiar with the very basic rules (half our group had never played a WoD game). I've been spending most days sense looking at the book at our local book store, wishing I had the money to buy it. I've noticed our DM has some things wrong/does some stuff different. Not sure how intentional it is, but I've been reading the book as carefully as possible so I know where the two differences are.
If I played I would effectively have access to the book, as it's on hold for me at the local store, and I'll be buying it soon (got a birthday coming up, and might actualy get some cash). The book is Scion Hero by the way. I'd like to play a Scion of Baron Samedi (maybe spelled it right? The vodoo loa top hat guy), though depending on what's allowable out of the companion that might change. My other character is a scion of Kali, though I'd like to play something very different. Might try a scion of Uncle Sam if it's allowed (think a mix between the old gruff bastard on We Were Soldiers and Bill the Butcher from Gangs of Newyork).
Either way, I'll definately be keeping on eye on this game. I really dig the theme behind Scion and can't wait to start running my own game of it.

I almost forgot. What limits will you be setting, if I should get in? I have all the books and I have a few ideas going through my head, that and I don't want to copy a pantheon of someone else's character.
