Male Elf Slayer Level 1

DM:
OK, I will move there and take a single shot then. On the map, I thought all that dark stuff were crevasses; which ones are walls?

Along the "Southern" path, Finrod moves to shoot but the shot bounces off of the drow's chainmail with little effect. Huergar follows close behind (but not able to shoot this round due to the double move necessary). Sunaj is not far behind, but also not able to move into spellslinging position.
Along the "Northern" path, Basil, Corvax, and Lyra take up defensive positions. and see that the first of the two mounted drow move behind the main corridor of rock. The southern Drow takes a bow from his quiver and shoots at Finrod, missing him by a wide margin.

There's no other sounds outside of the party's movement or the drow's yelling.

And, a new and improved battle map!

Anyone speaking undercommon:

Spoiler:
The drow are mainly cursing your mothers and families with various nastiness. More or less, these are battle cries.

Huergar:

Spoiler:
Retcon: You have up to 60 arrows, I'd recommend just taking 30 or so.[ooc]

Finrod:

Spoiler:
[ooc]Hope the new battle map markers help

Though he understands the drows' foul invectives, he resists being distracted. He continues to focus on his battle-song, changing its tone from one of determination and confidence to one of victory.

Male Elf Slayer Level 1

DM:
Very clear now, thanks!

Round 5

Finrod continues to target mounted drow 2 with ferocious concentration.
In first range band, with deadly aim, not point blank, with inspired courage.

Bow attack #1
1d20 + 17 - 3 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 17 - 3 + 1 = 28
Arrow damage #1
1d8 + 4 + 6 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + 4 + 6 + (5) = 16

Bow attack #2
1d20 + 12 - 3 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 12 - 3 + 1 = 18
Arrow damage #2
1d8 + 4 + 6 + 1d6 ⇒ (8) + 4 + 6 + (1) = 19

Liberty's Edge

M Dwarf Ftr8/Rog1

Huergar shoots two arrows at drow 2. (IC is down)

1d20 + 8 - 2 ⇒ (20) + 8 - 2 = 261d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 71d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (16) + 3 - 2 = 171d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7

I included -2 for exceeding the range of 70 feet. Whatever bonus he gets for Onyx's song is not included.

EDIT: critical threat for first shot adds 2d6+4 damage if confirmed: 1d20 + 8 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 8 - 2 = 212d6 + 4 ⇒ (1, 4) + 4 = 9

Heurgar, you get a +1 against charm and fear, +1 attack and damage from my Inspire Courage.

"If they want to shout stuff in a language I don't know, I'll show I'll take the fight to them! Hope my performer skills haven't gotten rusty..."

Kara runs at the crevasse, hoping she can make the jump to get to the otherside.

Invisible Castle is down, so I'm going to use paizo's rollers.

Acrobatics:1d20 + 18 ⇒ (2) + 18 = 20

Male Human Paladin of Iomedae1 (Warrior of the Shining Light) FC

Basil will move up to the crevasse still in defensive stance.

M Human Fighter 4

Corvax stands and charges toward the crevasse leaping past Basil and hopefully landing with a crash on the other side.

Invisible castle still down so random number generator it is.

Acrobatics 1d20-1 = 11 (I really hope its a 10 foot gap.)

Corvax:

Spoiler:
There was no mention of the armor when he did his preparations for combat, and since it's called, I would undertand it to not be worn yet. Is this correct, or is he wearing the armor?

M Human Fighter 4

DM Darkmeer:
Oops, I should have mentioned that them being attacked in the night and following a hostile enemy he would have had the armour on already in case of an ambush. But I'll call it next round if you want instead. And if he was not wearing armour the jump has a +5 modifier instead so result of 17

Corvax Schultheiss wrote:

Corvax:

Spoiler:
Actually, it works out better without the armor. Since it was a gaffe, I'll run with it being such right now. Honestly, you have a -4 penalty with the armor check penalty factored in when you make the jump, so I'm really very much pro-no armor right now. Call it when you get to the other side, that way it's fair to you. Remember Acrobatics (Jump) is Dex based now.
Here is my math with the armor on (so as to be fair): 0 ranks +1 Dexterity, -6 Armor, +1 due to Masterwork (magic does not reduce this penalty) = -4 total. Without the Armor, figuring a light load, +1 to the roll. Where is the +5 coming from?

Finrod and Huergar:

Spoiler:
Finrod, do you mind a 5-foot step to the south so that Huergar can get a better shot? Same for Huergar, do you mind the 5-foot step to the south? Both of you will be able to take the full attacks if you do so, it's just a better shot for both of you.

Male Elf Slayer Level 1

DM:
Sure, I can shift. It's not a problem.

Corvax and Lyra both make running jumps past Basil, who moves closer to the crevasse slowly, making sure nothing attacks him from the sides or front as he goes. They land at L20 and K20 repectively. Onyx's song continues to assist, with both Finrod and Huergar's arrows taking down the mounted drow, leaving the riding lizard sitting there with no orders.
The drow on the first riding lizard further continues to bet into a defensive position himself.

Next round! Map has been updated.

M Human Fighter 4

DM:
Oh I forgot the acrobatics change. The +5 came from my temporarily increased strength but as that doesn't actually apply to the check nevermind. I'll just spend next round calling the armour and generally preparing to attack.

As Corvax lands with a thud on the other side of the crevasse he realises with a start that he has forgotten to put his armour on today. Shaking his head slightly at his own idiocy he mutters the command word and with a rustle and a clank the armour wraps itself around his body.

Rolling to reduce her impact, Lyra uses the momentum to move toward the mounted drow.

Kara moves to square 23J

Male Elf Slayer Level 1

Round 6

Finrod double moves to (R,19), including a long jump across the crevasse.

Acrobatics check: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14

Liberty's Edge

M Dwarf Ftr8/Rog1

DM:
Huergar takes the recommended 5 foot step.

"Well, aren't they spry." Huergar takes his time figuring out a safe way across the crevasse. He has the skills and gear (such as rope and grapple hook) and companions on the other side to help him if necessary once combat is resolved.

Male Human Paladin of Iomedae1 (Warrior of the Shining Light) FC

Basil fumes silently on his side of the crevasse..having no way to cross the obstacle safely he is now effectively out off this fight unless it comes to him

Onyx continues singing his feisty tune ...

Knowing he is soon to be outflanked on all sides, the Drow lizard rider flees into the next room using the southern entrance as each the PC's approach. The remaining lizard follows the drow warrior, its lifeless drow rider twitching and jerking as the bipedal lizard runs into the southern entrance.

no map update necessary with this.

Male Elf Slayer Level 1

Round 7

Finrod runs up the wall to the platform and moves to (R,23). He pauses there and looks for the enemy.

Male Human Paladin of Iomedae1 (Warrior of the Shining Light) FC

Basil smacks his gauntlted hand against the side of his helmet.."Idiot" he mutters to himself as he reaches into his belt pouch.

Moving to the narrowest point in the crevasse he quaffs a potion immediately swelling up to the height of 12 feet and steps over the obstacle.

Drink potion of enlarge person...duration 10 rounds

Liberty's Edge

M Dwarf Ftr8/Rog1

Huergar takes his time, enjoying the tune sung by Onyx. "Hey, can any of you on the other side secure this rope?"

Take 10 on any relevant check to cross safely. I plan to have Huergar cross last after anyone else who still needs to cross. He'll secure the rope in such a way that he can recover any gear, such as a grappling hook, once he gets across.

Male Human Paladin of Iomedae1 (Warrior of the Shining Light) FC

"Aye sling it to me"

Onyx, do you intend to stay on the "west" side of the crevasse? Finrod, I'll need a perception check from you. Between Basil and Huergar, there's an easy way to cross, but it will take 3 rounds to get everything secured (putting Basil 4 rounds into his enlarge person).

Male Elf Slayer Level 1

Perception: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (13) + 16 = 29

I'll cross the crevase as well. Before I do so, I'll have my owl fly over and scout the other side for ambushers or rock traps.

"Thanks, Basil!"

Huergar slings the rope and doesn't waste any time securing his side, since he doesn't want to waste any more of Basil's magic than he has to. He lets Onyx cross first once everything is secure.

Male Human Paladin of Iomedae1 (Warrior of the Shining Light) FC

Basil swiftly secures the rope on the other side and waits for the dwarves to cross

I'm not too bothered by the fact that I'll lose half the potions duration I have the feeling that it's going to be a tight squeeze anyway at 12' tall

Finrod's searching in the darkness, so to speak, brings that they are expecting you down this corridor. Finrod sees at least three mounted drow, all wielding lances that will grant them reach enough to strike from afar, whilst, the others possibly set up flanking positions. They are looking as if they are solid with what they are doing, as if this is a drilled procedure.
Figured in three rounds, everyone can be in the V-W 25/26 range.

Upon hearing the description, Sunaj works to prevent their advantage, and for a moment his gestures seem strange, at the end of them, a blast of fire and light hits the end of the hall. Looking again, it seems that his talents wore through the typical Drow defenses, and there is yelling in the room. All of the lizards are down, and their prone riders are vulnerable at this point.

Sunaj?/All:

Spoiler:
DM working as Sunaj, obviously. I believe Radavel has moved on, please correct me if I'm wrong. Sunaj will likely leave after the next encounter. There will be a map update probably on Sunday. Suffice to say that the tunnels open into a larger map with a secondary chamber.

At this point 5 rounds have passed in Basil's Enlarged form.

Kara listens to the description, then whispers excitedly.
"I have an idea! Can anyone make me invisible?"

Good a time as any to see how the party reacts to her breath weapon...

Sunaj rasps "Certainly, Lyra. I'll be happy to oblige" as he casts invisibility on Kara.

Male Elf Slayer Level 1

Finrod passes on what he can see to his companions and fires at the first target.

#1 Longbow attack: 1d20 + 18 ⇒ (4) + 18 = 22
#1 Longbow damage: 1d8 + 5 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + 5 + (4) = 13

#2 Longbow attack: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (16) + 13 = 29
#2 Longbow damage: 1d8 + 5 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + 5 + (6) = 17

"Thank you Sunaj.", says a disembodied body, which then begins to chant softly.

Casting displacement and moving as close as possible to the drow(making sure to stay out of line-of-fire). The dispalcement is for when she is no longer invisible.

Male Human Paladin of Iomedae1 (Warrior of the Shining Light) FC

Basil waits to see what Kara will do, ready to charge to her assistance if she should require it.

Holding until the morning (I'll have the map up then), also to allow Onyx & Huergar a chance to post.

I've been ill for the past couple days. Please NPC me, thank you.

ALL:

Spoiler:
Sorry for delays. Expect another round of delays next week due to Christmas and my son having Surgery. Sunday's update should include the map, but for right now I'm over-pressed for time. Sorry about that to all.

Finrod's bow strikes it's target true both times, and the second arrow takes the drow down. The other drow, seeing what is happening, draw swords, and hunker down behind the smoldering corpses of their mounts for cover (yes, the mounts are large enough to grant some cover from Finrod's relentless attacks).

Onyx begins his hymn anew, while Huergar positions himself along the wall, seeming to lean on it for support, to stay out of the firing line, but ready to jump into the fray.

As Huergar listens to Onyx's hymn, he thinks of his father dying of the underdark plague, uninterested to the last in his son's efforts to engage his attention. The music is profound and soothing. He resolves that one day he will return to console his mother, and let her know that her son is still alive.

He watches his companions taking out the defenses in the tunnel, and he begins to believe that the drow here are already defeated. There is little he can do at the moment, so he conserves his energy as he watches and listens.

Round two off invisibility and displacement.

Moving closer, Kara hopes her companions can keep the drow distracted long enough for her plan to work...

When she can get both of them with it, Kara will let loose her breath weapon. Blizzard in a cave.. >:)

Round 7 of the enlarge..

Basil moves forward slightly hoping to keep the drows attention fixed on the 12 foot tall armoured figure closing in on them

Male Elf Slayer Level 1

Finrod sends a signal arrow, sounding like a keening owl, behind the cover the last drow is hiding behind.

1d20 + 17 ⇒ (7) + 17 = 24

Intimidate: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (8) + 12 = 20

Kara's tactic works, and she gets in perfect position to freeze the remaining drow where they stand rolled damage for you, you got all 4 of them. The remaining drow flee from the onslaught that you all have given them through the north entrance. The scream with fear when they see Huergar at the corner, and continue fleeing from the party.

anyone who wants to chase them can, although they are no longer a threat to you, or likely anyone else being that there are only 3 of them.

The room is simple, with a couple of higher perches, and evidence that the Vrock had made a handy lair in here, although there are few valuables. The oddest part of the room is a open doorway, up about 10 feet up a mild incline. The open doorway is freestanding, about 10 feet wide, with runes all over it, in a language nobody has seen before.

Detect magic finds 5 magic longswords, and all of the cloaks are magical, otherwise you have 5 suits of drow-made breastplates, some lizard barding, and 5 lances. Noticeably, the normal drow pattern of spiders is gone, replaced with a skull and hand motif. The door detects as magic, but even concentrating you're unsure of the school, perhaps Conjuration? Perhaps Transmutation?

All:

Spoiler:
I leave this in all of your able hands until next Sunday. Dealing with Insurance and getting my son ready for tomorrow. I'll be dealing with the healing of that and Christmas until the end of the week.

Liberty's Edge

M Dwarf Ftr8/Rog1

"Lyra, what did you say to them? They seemed in a hurry to leave."

Huergar limps into the room to have a look around. He examines the cloaks, hoping to find one he likes.

Male Elf Slayer Level 1

Finrod, suspicious on general principles, will make sure they have indeed fled and not doubled back; but he won't pursue with that odd doorway present.

Huergar wrote:

Kara pauses a moment before answering.

"Let's just say I explained what a blizzard was."

Looking over the breastplates, Kara tries to remember if the skull and hand holds some kind of religious significance.

Take 10 on Knowledge(Religion):18

Male Human Paladin of Iomedae1 (Warrior of the Shining Light) FC

Basil returns to normal size and walks forward to examine the door...

"So..where does this lead..the Abyss?"

Male Elf Slayer Level 1

Finrod rasps; "Did we not find a key to a planar doorway on someone? And a clue as to how to use it?"
