This is the discussion thread for A Few Brave Souls -- Last Baron PbP.

We have a few people still generating their characters. I'll give them more info shortly.

I still haven't got my copy of the PRPG rules yet and am working from the Beta.

Let's try the point buy system with 20 points (high fantasy).

I like characters with day jobs so take one extra skill in profession, craft, or knowledge (treated as a class skill) with one skill point per level. This represents your background and should add flavour to your character.

The Exchange RPG Superstar 2009 Top 8

Which of the existing characters had the 'racial hit die'?

RPG Superstar 2009 Top 16

So the concept I've got so far is a Rogue/Ranger spy type.

Tarren - As much as I want in on this, I'm going to pass. With RoD done, and another game on hiatus, I'm finding my gaming much more manageable, and since I'm running my own Legacy of Fire game, that's definitely a good thing. It's not running smoothly yet, with regular posting, so I'm doing what I can to really get it rolling.

Man, it's tough walking away, but I think my sanity, and the fairness to my playmates, demands it. Thanks anyway, and run 'em hard. I'll keep an eye on the thread, and would certainly like to be an alternate for when the inevitable casualties start piling up.

Male Human

Sir Manfred had 6 points in the racial hp. Looks like that rule didnt make it into the final ruleset. Should I take them off?

Female Half-Elf Rogue 3/ Urban Ranger 2

Here's Liandra Nightwind (Rogue3/Ranger2)(Mark)

Just setting a dot so I can follow you guys, too.

Scarab Sages

Male Human Expert 3/Cleric 3

Checking in - going to work on gaming related things this morning I think - so should get a character made here shortly.

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Rogue 6

I am born!

Or I was born. On the snowy slopes of Andoran in the late summer, around midnight while the sun was high in the sky.

Trained in the finer points of commerce, I strive to prove myself a gentleman and a scholar. But alas, it is not my destiny to rest easy by the fire with a book in one hand and a fine port in the other. For my love of country has compelled me to volunteer time and again to seek out those who hate freedom and bring them to justice.

Scarab Sages

Male Human Expert 3/Cleric 3

I wasn't sure about wealth. I gave myself 2400 gp and spent 1400 of it.

He ends up with a lot of skills 8 (base) +2 (intelligence) +1 (human) +1 (favored class) +1 (DM kindness) for a total of 13.

The Exchange

TD

Spoiler:
I would like to play in this adventure. I didn't put my name forward originally because you were going to just start with the old crew. But now that Mark and Kevin have been thrown a branch I'm not going to be so backward.

Dark Archive

Okay decided to go for a Gnome druid have the character ready ASAP

Female Half-Elf Rogue 3/ Urban Ranger 2

Are we going with standard starting gold (10,500)or a specific number. If other than standard I'll have to trim down on equipment (mainly scale back from +1 to masterwork)

For HP went with max 1st half +1 for 2nd -5th

Tell me about it. I was invited into a PbP this week but had to pass too. Decisions gotta be made, right?

Spoiler:
Well, you have played with me before. I'm being a bit selfish in letting only people who I've played with in first so I know they are reliable. The game will go faster that way, I hope. So, you're in.

The Exchange

Excellent.

It looks like the party is short a wizard or a cleric at the moment. Is that about right?

I'll put something together tomorrow.

Cheers

So what is starting gold? :)

I can't find the wealth by levels on the SRD? What is it expected to be?

The Exchange

P.399 PF Rulebook has the starting gold at 10,500 for fifth level.

RPG Superstar 2009 Top 16

Yep, that's what I went with.

heh - I was using the NPC starting wealth of 2400. 10,500 opens up a whole lot of possibilities.

Dark Archive

Huh never realised we didn't have a cleric might do one of them instead.

We do have a Paladin though, that and 10k will buy a lot of potions/wands.

Male Human

No Cleric? Isn't Hru coming with us?

The Exchange

Hru must be the one that hasn't chimed in yet. Then that leaves me with wizard.

Male Halfling Transmuter5

Initial Draft of my halfling wizard, Knotty Ashe. Halfling again, must be a phase I'm going through.

Not sure Pathfinder has it right when a half-orc can be just as good a wizard as an elf. Somehow I liked the fact that they had a penalty to Int.

Will keep building him over the next few days. Tarren Dei, how long have we got before you want to start?

Cheers

I'm ready to go anytime but Hru still hasn't chimed in. If he isn't coming, then we open it up to the last on the waiting list.

Female Halfling Cleric 5

Eria all done minus gear and background (Not sure on starting gold)

Male Halfling Transmuter5

Mark - do you fancy making our halflings from the same community. Maybe cousins twice removed so to speak?

EDIT: Kevin, yes, I'm much better with races than names, sorry.

Dark Archive

Sure (I am assuming its me your asking?)

Male Halfling Transmuter5

See above

Cheers

Male Halfling Transmuter5

Knotty is mostly done, equipment, feats and the like. Just have to write up his spells and sort out a background.

I haven't spoilered Knotty's info because he is a pretty open individual. However he was some kind of SAS mage in a previous life. He should be able to keep up with the rogues.

There are a number of reasons your characters might have gotten hooked into this adventure. You might want to think about some of them now as you're polishing up your characters:

The side of right: You are committed to the cause of justice and see Andoran as a noble, if unfinished, project.
Loyal soldier: You are tapped for this secret mission by your superior officer.
You look the part: You can pass for a merchant or caravan guard pretty easily -- perhaps you are one.
Damn sneaky: You have valuable skills.
Damn greedy: You have valuable skills and know what they are worth.
Get out of jail free: You have valuable skills and are promised your freedom if you put them to good use.

You may, of course, choose more than one of the above. Why would a soldier send you on a secret mission?

Female Half-Elf Rogue 3/ Urban Ranger 2

Definitely damn sneaky!

Male Human Cavalier L1-- AC 18-(T10-F18) | hp 13/13| F4, R0, W2 | Init+0 | Percep +0 | Status: OK

Sir Manfred poses on Trouble, his cloak flowing in the breeze, and lifts his blazing shield.

m Half-orc Cleric/Barbarian 4/1

I guess I'll be using the PRD to convert.... still haven't recieved my book.....*grumble* But I plan to be in. Board cruising at a premium with school starting etc. sorry for the delay

OY!

Can I have CON point returned to me in working order? (find a dwarven financed Resto spell?)

Liberty's Edge

Male Human Rogue 6

I fight for Andoran! For freedom. For justice. Though the pay isn't always bad either.

I'm thinking someone in Andoran might take care of that in exchange for your services on this mission.

Dark Archive

So what gold do new starting characters get? (since as far as I know people with recurring characters are behind on the wealth by lvl curve)

The Exchange RPG Superstar 2009 Top 8

I'm not sure that people with recurring characters are behind on the wealth by level in this thread. (In the other one, that is certainly the case but they did leave a LOT of gold behind.) Most of the Kerrigan's Keep lot got a magic item that should have brought them close to on target.

Start with 10,500 gp.

Liandra looks good. She'll want to pick up something less conspicuous than form-fitting black leather to wear for the first part of the mission though ;-).

Galadar looks good. I think he still has some more money to spend?

I find Knotty's AC line too confusing. Could you make it clearer?

Has the middle aged Knotty taken aging effects into account? (–1 to Str, Dex, and Con; +1 to Int, Wis, and Cha). Looks like it.

Male Halfling Transmuter5

Sure

I can separate out the protective spells from the main AC.

I've finished off the spells and spellbook. The only query is whether you will let me take an extra spell at third so that he can usefully use all his slots, without doubling up too much. In reality at third level, he should have two spells in his book and three slots to fill. But I didn't think it was too far a stretch to have him learning one more before the adventure. Let me know if you are OK with that.

Cheers

EDIT: Changed, is that better?

Yes. Take an extra spell. You could have found one or traded for one during your adventures.
