I hope the day finds you well, and, CH, you are over your illness.
That sucks. Sorry to hear that.
It's a good thing you're more "productive" with a lack of sick days. I'm sure your co-workers will think the same thing when they pick up your bug. *rassum frassum short-sighted corporate policies*
Indeed, my company has some screwed up time-off policies, and sick days in particular.
I get 5 sick days, and they are use 'em or lose 'em. So it encourages employees to call in sick 5 times. No more, no less. But when you come right down to it, that isn't enough for someone who actually is ill at some point during the year, so really it only rewards people who use them to play hookie 5 times a year and were otherwise healthy.
Of course, if I actually had the flu I would stretch it out for 6 days, get a doctors note, and call it Short Term Disability.
It's funny. We went from 10 sick days to sick days because there was too much "abuse" of the sick time policy.
Our short-term disability policy requires you to take vacation time first. Lovely, huh?
No, it's the same way here. I thought I was out of vacation, but apparently I'm up to 3 days. Sweet. It means I can keep the day off I have scheduled on Christmas Eve.

That reminds me: What are everyone's Christmas plans?
We'll be spending the holidays here. My in-laws live nearby, and my kids are begging me and my wife to have them come to our house, because it's so "booooring" at my in-laws house. We have a huge game day on New Year's Eve, board games and card games that we don't play too much during the year.

We'll probably be visiting my partner's family. My mother is flying out to spend Christmas with my brother and his family in Oregon, and my father has no plans to come up from Florida since he just did so for Thanksgiving, and I don't really have the time off to do any travelling. Should be very low-key.
For past New Years celebrations, we've had people over. We might consider doing that again.

Flying down on Xmas Eve to spend time with the in-laws. We'll see how it goes... although they are excited to play the Pandemic boardgame again so that's always fun.

We had horrid luck the first time we played Pandemic, with some really bad groupings of cities. Our game was over in 5 turns. I wasn't sure if anyone wanted to play it again. The second time went much better, though.

Yeah, Pandemic can really screw you over if the Epidemic cards are not shuffled well.

Haven't bought it yet, as I generally decide my game purchases way in advance, unless it's a great, unexpected sale. My next non-mini purchase: Gygax's Necroplis.
Speaking of minis, do you do the pre-paints or do you paint them yourself? I prefer them to be painted as I don't have the hand for them. Just wish they didn't cost so frakkin' much. I also despise the chase for the mini that you haven't satisified for a particular series and don't like paying kazillion dollars for the uber rares. Reminded me why I dropped out of M:TG back in the early 90's.

Good morning, everyone!
Urizen, I hope your woman's surgery goes well.
It went well, thanks for asking! Unlike two years ago when I had it, hers was completely routine. Probably took all of 90 minutes and a lot of time in recovery and in her room getting out of the groggy stage. Her mom should be with her right now while I working from an offsite location on a project (which doesn't seem to be working properly at the moment, so I'm waiting for ITS to do their magic...). Going to check on her later today and hopefully bring her home tomorrow.

Well, its official. Riley threw his first in public fit. My sweet baby is turning into a mean toddler. Broke his heart when I didn't get him that truck. Oh well, he will learn that he doesn't get things when he acts up.
The other two looked at him like he lost his mind, he is usually my angel, I have NEVER seen him act like that. Even I stood there staring at him for a minute or two. :\

Yep. The toddler phase...not so much fun. Between tantrums and toilet training....but then they learn how to do stuff like talk and all that, and having your kid tell you that they love you is pretty awesome. :)

It gets better but then they turn 13 and you have a whole other ball of wax to deal with. :/
My son is 15, and we get along pretty well. My biggest issue with him is getting him to motivate himself to do things. I do have to mediate a lot with him and my wife. She gets so angry with him, and he just dismisses it as, "oh, mom's being crazy again."
My daughter is 13, and she is a little too clever for her own good. I worry about how things will go when she gets older.

Mmmhmmm. I've said it before and I'll say it again... When someone dies who you never cared for while they were living, just walk away. When people vent their spleens about the person, it just makes the poster look bad, not the person they were talking about.
Edit: I think I first voiced that bit of advice on the Ted Kennedy thread, but there have been so many, really...

Urizen: Hope the surgery goes well. Chef Boyardee for breakfast?! I need to steal Futurama's idea and invent Bachelor Chow.
Funny thing you mention about Futurama. I share the same last name with one of the characters on the show and another character has my mother's maiden name. Eerie.

[Glad to hear it. I also hope the surgery works out for her.
That makes at least two of us. (Or three or more!) She also had problems with hormones and thyroids in the past. She she had hit puberty, something went awry and she simply stopped aging for 4 years. Had a surgery performed to get it kick started again. For her age, she looks rather useful where it looks like I'm cradle robbing. It reminds me of Dazed & Confused when Matthew McConaughey was still a nobody.
