From EN World:
Release Date - March 21, 2009
4 Winds Fantasy Gaming announced today its intentions to publish tabletop fantasy roleplaying game books and supplements under the terms of the Open Gaming License (OGL) from Wizards of the Coast and the Pathfinder Compatibility License from Paizo.
“The Pathfinder Compatibility License is a great opportunity for us,” said 4 Winds Fantasy Gaming co-owner Robert Thomson. “The Pathfinder Roleplaying Game from Paizo is being published under the OGL, continuing the legacy of the 3.5 version of the world’s most popular roleplaying game in new and interesting ways. Our books will add options and new material to the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game and help that legacy continue to grow well into the future.”
4 Winds Fantasy Gaming co-owner Connie Thomson said, “The Pathfinder Compatibility License means we will be able to market our products created for use with the upcoming Pathfinder Roleplaying Game with the Pathfinder Compatibility logo on the covers, which will bring more visibility to our products, and give others playing the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game new options for their own games.”
“We are very grateful to Paizo for introducing the Pathfinder Compatibility License,” added Robert Thomson. “It allows us to create and publish material for the game we love.”
4 Winds Fantasy Gaming intends to publish their first product – The Book of Arcane Magic – in September 2009, with The Book of Divine Magic following in October. The current publishing schedule then calls for one book per month for the next several months.
Full PR can be found at the link above. 4 Winds Fantasy Gaming, from the homepage, looks like it'll be publishing magic and class focused supps at this time.

This is great news - have a question though - will the 4 Winds material be pure PFRPG system supplements or will they be steeped in the campaign world flavour too?
I dont believe they can really do much with the Campaign world thats Paizos intelucual property so its a no go I believe
As for the books how can you already have a preview for next month and the final does not come out until August?

Thanks for you interest!
The compatibility license and the community use license are separate licenses and publishers cannot use the community use license. Therefore, our material will be under the compatibility license only, and will have no connections to Paizo's campaign world.

Good question!
The previews we post will be based on the beta edition, and will NOT carry the Pathfinder compatibility logo anywhere on them. The previews will just be pure OGL only, and if we don't get the final rules early, our first couple of published products will be OGL only and not carry the compatibility logo either.

So will you be using OGL material or will you be using Beta material if you dont get the final rules early?
Wouldnt it make more sense to wait for Pathfinder since there is a glut of OGL material already out there covering the classes?

So will you be using OGL material or will you be using Beta material if you dont get the final rules early?
The simple answer is "Yes". Paizo is producing the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game under the Open Game License. That makes Pathfinder OGL material. If we don't get the final rules early, we are using the beta for our first few products. They won't carry the Pathfinder Compatibility logo, but even if they did they would still be OGL.

If we want our product out as soon as possible after Paizo releases the final Pathfinder Roleplaying Game core book in August, we have to have our book done now. If we do not get the final rules early and we wait until we do see them in August, we would then be lucky to have a single product written, produced, printed, distributed and released before the end of 2009, and probably not until early 2010. By releasing our products without the Pathfinder compatibility logo, but produced under the OGL and based on the beta, we can get several products out before the end of 2009.

In my opinion, you should learn a lesson from Paizo. Instead of doing it quick, do it right. If I buy 3rd party PfRPG stuff, I expect high quality like I have come to expect from Paizo, and I expect the book to mesh with PfRPG completely. I would rather wait a few months for a book I want than pass over a book that could have been great.
I'm not saying it won't be great, I'm just saying do it right and the sales will be there.

We believe our product will be quality material, and that just because it does not carry the Pathfinder Compatibility logo will not make it any more or less of a quality product. We aren't rushing a product out the door. We are simply not passing up five months of work just to have the Pathfinder Compatibility logo on the cover. Our plans were in the works before Paizo announced the Pathfinder Compatibility license, and the original intent was that it would just be released under the OGL, but based on the OGL Pathfinder rules. Paizo's announcement of the compatibility license is wonderful, and means our products won't just be OGL, but be able to carry that logo as well, after August 2009, but our current schedule is the same as it was before Paizo announced their compatibility license.
If we don't get to see the final rules until August, and we find that there is something that needs to be corrected and/or changed from the beta to the final as far as our product goes, we will do a free web enhancement for it (we are planning a free web enhancement for each product anyway). Of course, the product will be a perfectly fine OGL product either way. We are confident in what we are producing at 4 Winds Fantasy Gaming, and think that you will like what you see when it hits the shelves.

I'll take a look as well, do you currently have anything on the market, you'll have to forgive me, I'm just now starting to learn that 3rd party publishers can be better than sticking to one company :) Paizo of course were the ones who taught me that.
We do not yet have a product out. We are brand new. The Book of Arcane Magic to be released in September will be our first print product, though we may have a PDF or two - at least one of which will be a freebie - available before September.

I'll wait to see what the company has to offer, but honestly...a company that has yet to publish anything, trumpeting an intention to produce for a game system that isn't published. I dunno, got burned a bit on 3.0 products that were like that.
I'll peek at it though for sure, but not really ready to spend more on 3.5 stuff that isn't tailored towards Pathfinder. Here's to hoping you get the rules early to make it tie in that much better.

4 Winds Fantasy Gaming has posted the first preview for The Book of Arcane Magic: A Sourcebook for Bards, Sorcerers and Wizards, to be released as a Pathfinder Roleplaying Game compatible product in August 2009. This product features over 100 new arcane spells, new feats based on colleges of magic and bardic schools, new sorcerer bloodlines, new familiars and new magic items.
The first preview does not delve too deeply into what The Book of Arcane Magic holds, but is a fun 1st-level arcane spell for bards, sorcerers or wizards called cold feet. Accompanying artwork is by Kate Ashwin. You can see the preview at http://4windsfantasygaming.com/.
4 Winds Fantasy Gaming will post five previews - one from each chapter - over the next few weeks leading up to release of the book.

I heard about Arcane Magic on Atomic Array and bought a copy. I'm very much impressed. Suffice to say I will be very interested in the Divine Magic version even more as I play Rangers more often than not but as I am usually the GM I needed to get Arcane Magic and see if I would allow it to be used by my players. It passed the test. I may or may not use all the bloodlines but I really enjoyed that portion of the book. My only complaint is with the layout, more specifically the spells which I thinks should have been the last chapter, not the first. But that is a minor quibble and I really liked the Genie and Nightmarish bloodlines for sorcerers. Although for different reasons. I so want to make a villain for my players of the nightmare bloodline.

We're very happy that you are pleased with The Book of Arcane Magic, and thanks for letting us know you heard about it on Atomic Array!
The Book of Divine Magic is still on track for a late September release and hope that you'll find it just as interesting and useful. It'll have new spells & deities for your ranger, new suggestions for your ranger's animal companions, and magic items (including relics) that can be used by your ranger.
And coming in October is Paths of Power: A Sourcebook of Base and Prestige Classes. If you use prestige classes, you might enjoy the Crypt Stalker PrC, which is being designed as a specialized undead hunter PrC for Rangers.

MerrikCale wrote:That book sounds very interestingI don't want to give away too much yet, but we've got a couple of surprises in store in that book. Later in September we'll release a list of the classes (base & prestige) that will be in the book.
Upfront admission I worked in editing Arcane Magic
That said, in my 32 some years of gaming, I honestly can say I have never bought a book devoted only to spells, magic items, etc.
Technically I did not buy this one, I worked on it, but it finally has spells and other game support for fantasy gaming I would have been pleased to buy.

Yes, I am very much looking forward to the Divine book. The other sourcebook sounds like it will be worth checking out as well.
