Umm, stupid question but anyone going to Gencon interested in picking up a PHB and sending it to me? ^_^

Finally found two players who are interested, but I can't afford the books to run. $5 dollars + shipping, ya I can handle that...

It would be $5 + Shipping + the cost of the other book you have to buy to get the $5 deal.

;-)

I would think that mos people going to GenCon that wanted a copy would have it by now.

Sovereign Court

I am stopping by the small booth adjacent to Goodmans that is offering 10 cents on the dollar for gently used 4e books. Reuse & recycle.

Ha...that's kind of funny.

Pretty good deal and a smart one by WotC.

I wonder if they might be targeting people who come by the booth with friends, or who might have friends back home who haven't tried the game yet.

Not to mention that if you are there picking up another book, it is an excellent deal to add an additional PHB to your table for reference, either for those that do not own their copy or as a general one for the table.

Can't you get the 4e PHB for $5 on eBay and used on Amazon?

Well Amazon is easy to check - $12 is the cheapest.

Um, Pax, if I remember the e-mail I received correctly, Goodman's is making that offer for 3e books, not 4e. Is it possible you're talking about something else?

Smart idea. Most of their core audience already owns the book, and they're well past their initial sales period. This is going to get the PH in the hands of a lot of folks (including skeptics) who ordinarily wouldn't have touched it.

It'll be interesting to see how well this promotion does for them, but I think it's very clever.

Especially, and please correct me if I'm wrong, they don't have a major 4E book to release at the Con?

This gives folks a reason to stop by.

I can't believe they're not going to have Geoffrey McKinney in their booth.

They usually have about 2-3 4e books every month. I guess one could say that no major book like a Player's Handbook 2 or a campaign setting is releasing at Gen Con.

It sounds like they are going to sell a limited amount of 2 products before the official release: Adventurer's Vault 2 and Dragon Annual. I imagine these will be among some of their better selling items but I really have no idea.

Probably the most anticipated WotC book, though, is not for 4e but a Dragonlance novel that decribes Raistlin's story between the Chronicle books and the Legends books. That will probably have many people flocking to their booth, particularly if they have book signing.

Yeah with Weis and Hickman on site they will surely be autographs. I wouldn't be surprised if they made an official announcement that Dragonlance is indeed their next campaign setting release for '10. They've been dancing around it for a while, but the clearly have the principles, and they are sneaking Draconians out in the Draconomicon. The writing is on the wall. (of course they are also coming out with psion's in PHB3... Darksun is an option.

But you are right they don't have a major core book out for gencon, the AV will be popular, but not a home run, and DMG 2 is next month.

i have always owned 3 or 4 PHBs, one for me to dm with, and some for the table at large. not all of my friends have had phbs.

i wish i was going, next year....next year.

Well I'm sure a few people are going to stop by the WotC booth anyway to pick up a book or two. So while they're doing that they could genously pick me up a PHB ^_^
