Price of a Parasol? :)

One of the characters in my game would like to own a parasol. While not common in medieval times or in Europe until the 17th Century, it was quite common in Ancient Greece and Rome, so I have no problem with one. But I need a price and I'm unsure how much it might be.

I have checked Aurora's as well as a number of other miscellaneous books I own looking for a price, so I'm looking for help here :)

Thanks in advance!

Paper, Silk?

If its a paper parasol, like in Japan, 5 gp
Silk parasol, 10 gp
A silk parasol with secret dart shooting compartments, 35 gp
A silk parasol with a secret gas or smoke compartment, 50 gp (Penguin: "Wha, Wha, Wha")
A silk parasol with hidden blade, 50 gp + cost of blade.

Just a suggestion, prices depend on the rarity of silk.

Thank you very much :) Those prices feel good, and I'll check on the notes I've got on silk to see if I need to up that cost.

I love these boards!

Sandstorm lists a parasol as costing 3 gp, and weighing 2 lbs...

The Parasol is in the equipment chapter of Sandstorm.

Edit: Never mind :)

That works nicely :) Using the Kaiser's Bazaar Books, I figured out a bunch of variant types of parasols (lacquered paper or cloth) and how much they cost if the player wants 'em painted. Several of the varieties wound up at 3gp or less, with the fancier materials going up the scale. And now I have a weight thanks to you!

In case others are interested, here's the list I made thanks to the aid of Paizonians and Kaiser :)

Double thickness paper, lacquered for wet weather (see type below for cost). Triple this price if parasol is painted as well.

Rag Paper
Cotton = 10gp
Linen = 5gp
Ramie = 6gp
Wool = 5gp

Other Paper
Manila = 15gp
Papyrus = 1gp 2sp 5cp
Rice Parchment = 1gp 2sp 5cp
Straw = 2gp 5sp
Parchment = 15gp
Vellum = 25gp

Lacquered cloth costs. Triple this price if parasol is painted as well.

Common Cloth
Canvas - Flax = 3gp
Canvas - Hemp = 3gp
Linen - Flax = 3gp
Linen - Hemp = 3gp
Linen - Kenaf = 3gp
Linen - Nettle = 3gp
Ramie = 5gp
Sisal = 2gp
Wool - Coarse = 3gp
Wool - Medium = 5gp
Wool - Fine = 10gp
Wool - Superfine = 20gp

Exotic/rare Cloth
Cotone(cotton) = 25gp
Exotic Wools - Alpaca Wool = 35gp
Exotic Wools - Llama Wool = 35gp
Exotic Wools - Mohair = 35gp
Exotic Wools - Felt = 5gp
Silk (hardware is of finer quality than the common parasols)
Silk - Fine = 55gp
Silk - Wild = 45gp
Samite (the hardware is much finer than normal)
Samite - Gold = 200gp
Samite - Silver = 100gp
Satin/velvet = 75gp

Special addition: A parasol with hidden blade: +50gp + cost of blade

And becasue someone brought it up...

Spoiler:

Parasol of the Cobbled Pot.
Aura: Moderate abjuration and weak enchantment
This parasol appears to be made from black silk. The handle is teak, carved in the form of a flightless bird.
Powers: The Parasol of the cobble pot has three separate effects. When opened, it protects the wielder as a continuous resist elementsell. As a full round action, it can be spun around in front of the character, providing effects equal to a shield spell. Finally once a day, while spinning it may cast hypnotic pattern as a free action.
CL: 6th Requires: Craft Wondrous Item, Hypnotic Pattern, Resist Elements, Shield; Cost 8600 GP

See, I can see something like that costing 3 gp... something more intricate, that folds.... should be a little more. :)

LOL! Yeah, I thought of the hide/leather angle, but left that for later figuring. The character in question is a delicate priestess of Shelyn, so I don't see her with a leather parasol :)

Thank you, just noticed typos that snuck past me. Blue Hermit needs editor, badly.

I would tack on Masterwork costs(+300 gp) for any oddly constructed weapon and/or consider it an Exotic Weapon.

I wouldn't apply both ... assuming it's an RP-oriented character and not a munchkin'ing geisha ninja with a concealed weapon.

A similar concept would be 'Bladed Bows & Crossbow Bayonets' in the Complete Scoundrel, but a poor example as I don't think either of those are Exotic or require Masterworking. Mind you they're not concealed/spring-loaded/air compressing either.

It is a priestess of Shelyn, she uses it to keep the sun form buring her delicate skin.

Concealing a weapon in the item would be the farthest thing from her mind.

Spoiler:
Why, yes. I am the player. Why do you ask? :P

Yea yea, but once you convert to Zon-Kuthon it's no holds barred... Leather parasol, Concealed weapon, Spiked armor, Chains, Whips... Eternal suffering, etc.

Well, you could fill it with love dust and then be the Marry Poppins of Golarion. :)

What, a lover's quarrel? I'm on it!

Yes, Aurora's Whole Realms Catalog, a Sears Roebuck shopping book from 2e Forgotten Realms. I was lucky enough to have a hard copy from when it first came out, and picked up a PDF just before the hammer fell on TSR/WoTC pdf products.

If you can find one of these at what you consider a decent price, it is a wondrous toy for gaming :)

Zon-Kuthon? Not bloody likely.

Kuthonites have no sense of fashion.

Fantastic! Thanks for the link and description, folks!

This is the kind of stuff that, for me, helped to greatly the the last generation of gaming (the 2E era), and seemed to be sorely missing from the 3E/3.5/current era...

Copy ordered on Amazon!

*SNIP*

That seems rather pricey at the low end, the cheaper non-folding parasols were just split bamboo with waterproof paper stuck on, yet it costs more than an Artisan's Outfit.

That gives me an idea ... how about making a parasol half the weight and price of a suit of clothing of the desired status (e.g. a Peasant's Parasol, bamboo & paper, 5 cp and 1 lb; an Artisan's Parasol, wood & waterproof cloth, 5 sp and 2 lbs; a Royal Parasol, silk and cloth of gold and fine woods, folding with metal hinges, 100gp and 7.5 lbs - price does not include the flunky to hold it over you).
