5 new monsters per Pathfinder book... where are the minis?

Paizo needs someone to create real minis for all the critters they are creating. Who agrees?

Well there are the minis from Crocodile Games, which are damn cool ... but they are SO late behind schedule ...

Me want more minis !

Minis are always cool ... make sure to take a look at the Paper Mini line! So far we have Goblins and friends from Rise of the Runelords 1, and lots of goodies from the first two chapters of Legacy of Fire. And if you dig into the Crimson Throne threads, you'll find Immora's goodies for the first three of those Chapters, though I admit, I want more :)

But I agree, with all the new yummy mobs, I want minis of them :)

Plastic pre-painted minis would rock!

I will be doing the paper minis for the rest of the RotRL books. In fact, book one is done and book two is moving along. I just have to get them along to N'wah who does the final prep work.

I've really only had a chance to peruse the Rise of the Runelords bestiaries.. what are the coolest (or hardest to proxy or just plain deserving of a mini) critters seen so far? Is there art for them available on the blog or elsewhere on the net?

Your line of inquiry also makes me wonder wether Crocodile Games' license is exclusive, and if so - how long they can keep this radio silence until that license defaults.

I wonder how long it'll take until we see some Pathinder equivalents of Reapers' non-beholder Eye Beasts and non-mindflayer Bathalians.

Silver Crusade

If you want a regular mini-maker, then by all means get Reaper on board for Pathfinder. While Croc's minis are nice, just too much time passes in-between releases.

Reaper puts out what up to 10 releases every other week, while Croc puts out around 5 Pathfinder minis, what a quarter?? Even then they have a variety of items, from Dark Heaven Line to Warlord to Chronoscope. Now the pre-paint line has had it's bumps but that is due to not being in-house like 98% of their lines.

That kind of schedule kinda put me off from buying them. At first I was all for them, but the constant delays kinda left a bad taste in my mouth. I've yet to get the ogre releases & I've only gotten the wizard & paladin from the releases after that.

Whatever Pazio chooses for a mini line, please no random BS, if I want goblins I don't want to have to get 50 farmers just to get those goblins!! (yes I know about singles purchases, but why put out the product if you know it's gonna end up like that in the first place!!)

RM

Agree with the Croc synopsis too - they make damn fine miniatures, but waiting almost up to a year per wave is getting pretty grim... as Haldir and Bloodsbane have mentioned.

Reaper are doing some nice stuff that's coming regularly, but if you want some Linnorm King flavoured minis that are excellent then look no further than Tre Manor's Redbox Games

There's a bunch of norse hero types, dwarves, troll/goblins and dark vikings...

Ordered a bunch of late and been in contact with Tre, great guy and he's got some brilliant sculpts done and more on the way... for a norsephile like me its mana from valhalla, and the minis themselves have great detail, plenty of adventuring type touches - perfect for Pathfinders and Ulfen NPCS.

I think there is a unanimous agreement about what would be ideal and what we want, but a gap that cannot be practically overcome regarding what Paizo can provide. But sure, I want more minis, would prefer plastic pre-painted, will take paper, and would like for the pewters to move more quickly. But since my funds and my painter tarry behind, it's more of a future desire than it is an immediate demand.

I think the rate of minis being put out may be related to the rate of sales on the minis already out. They were a lot closer to "current" when they first started to come out, but if they don't sell well, you can't keep dumping cash into producing them.

Similar problem (*potentially*) with the WorldWorksGames (?) 3D layouts - very very cool, but I haven't bought it yet because I'm not *caught up* to Legacy of Fire.

So, Majuba, what you're saying is, the answer to this, as to so many other problems, is buy more Paizo products. I'm with you ideologically, I just need to catch up economically. ;)

Awesome to hear!

Now if Immora does more of the Crimson Throne goodies she's done (and I would be more than willing to purchase any further additions through the Paper Mini Line) I'll be in 7th Heaven :)

Get pathfinders paper minis, they're much cooler anyways.

Ok, having the iconics as minis is cool, but do we really need another male human fighter? Sales may improve if they released unique stuff you can't get anywhere else. Like the sinspawn.

Also, the line is tied to the APs and four of them are out, with the fanbase spread across them all, but only RotRL has any minis. Maybe having the AP BBEG available for each one would sell better. In the age of prepainted plastic, almost only painters buy pewter, so maybe not. Who knows?

Anyway, I have no idea what the numbers are. For all I know the minis could be selling like hotcakes. But I know I want to see some more unique stuff like the critters in the bestiaries made into minis, not goblins and ogres.

While the new creations would be great as minis, the ogres and goblins created for Pathfinder are equally unique. Having figures that represent that are an asset at the gaming table.

I disagree.

I like the look of the Golarion goblins, but the football heads aren't going to get me to add even more goblins to the tons I already have. If I was starting out, then maybe I would choose them over other.

The ogres on the other hand might have an interesting spin to them ecology-wise, but the minis are similar to the ogres of other companies.

Sinspawn are similar enough to zombies that a zombie miniature would suffice to represent it. Marsh giants look like hill giants, forest drakes like wyverns, and the doru like vargouille. It all comes down to taste. I personally like to have minis that as accurately represent the creature or character as possible, but it's always easy enough to find some ersatz figure when a proper one isn't available. At the end of the day I'm just grateful that I have those options now, and the Big Bads don't have to be represented on the map with extra dice. Nothing was more anticlimactic than, back in the day, having to let a d20 stand in for Strahd or Zuggtmoy or the Slave Lords.

I find the difference between a sinspawn and a zombie to be vastly greater than the difference between a goblin and another goblin. The legs, the mouth and the hands, but your right it is a matter of taste.

The second part I quoted, I agree with 100%. That's why I say I believe they would sell more minis if they concentrated on BBEGs, instead of pumping out iconics and ogres.

I'm sure the monsters, new or re-imagined, sell fine. The iconics seem like a bit of an indulgence, both with Pathfinder minis and back with the D&D pre-painted. They're the only ones I haven't bought from the Pathfinder set, and while I do plan on getting them, the need to do that isn't going to arise any time soon (unless tomorrow's blog says something like it's the last day to get them). Rather than worry about what's being made, though, my bigger issue, like many others who have posted here, is when they're being released. If the problem in delays isn't sales but rather production, perhaps it's time to question whether or not Crocodile is the right company to make them.

Dark Archive

I get ya, but I have nothing to add on that subject.

Scarab Sages

The real answer is that we need Aston, Crystal, and Hugo to start pumping out more of the paper minis. I've been using the gobbo minis for RotRL and they have been great! They fit the setting, are cheaper to produce, and have great reuse... Need 30 goblins? Print up a couple more sheets! Paizo just needs to get 'em working on an AP each. Just my 2cp.

Gav, I'm with you in that I love the paper minis. I've gotten all the sets and I can't see a reason I won't continue to. But for me painting the minis is as much a hobby as gaming is. So I agree getting more paper minis out is great, but I'd also like to see something moving forward with the metal minis as well.

I can agree with that sentiment... I am completely a dillettante, but I like painting minis, too. At Paizocon I was compelled to pick up the Karzoug, Skinsaw Man, and Lamia minis. Too cool to pass up!

They may seem like an indulgence, but I am eagerly awaiting the release of all the iconics. I'm holding off buying any until the entire set is available. I don't want to get 4-5 iconics and then be told that the rest will not be released. As soon as all 12 are out there, though, I'm snapping them up.

I want the iconics, they just don't seem as valuable at the gaming table as other minis could be. But just as soon as I get caught up on the Pathfinder minis I already have I'll be ordering the iconics. In fact, I'll probably get Lem just as soon as he's available.

I'm interested in Lini (actually, her animal companion). If her figure comes with the cat, I'm swooping down on it.

I’ve used the Iconic minis as a way of wetting the whistle of new players at my FLGS. I run a set modular and use the prefabricated characters in the back of each modular and then let them use the miniatures for said character. As of now I cannot do that for everyone of them because I’m still waiting, but for the most part I’ve got plenty of people interested in Paizo because they got a taste of the modular and seen the quality minis that they are commissioning.

I would love to get even more miniatures that fit in with all the monsters from the games but I know that is quite a reach to get.

I'm patiently, as can be expected, waiting. I'm excited about the RPG so I can wait still. But the newly trained goblin ninjas will be released if I have to wait to long... Or if they begin eating the walls again, which ever happens first.

The only prepackaged minis I would support would be sets. Like an iconics set.. or a goblin set.. or whatever. We know what we're getting before we get it.

No randoms please.

Does the deal with Reaper mean that I was right to not buy any iconic minis?

Paizo Employee Chief Creative Officer, Publisher

I'm not sure what you mean, honestly. We will be completing the iconics and will re-release all of the existing sculpts over the course of several months (because we're all itching to do some new stuff, too!). In fact, Reaper will also be releasing NEW sculpts of both Valeros and Seoni, in the poses from the cover of the Core Rulebook. They're even going to do the red dragon from the cover, so you can re-create the cover scene! I am thinking about building the background dungeon walls out of some Hirst Arts tiles and making a cool little diorama.

The new Senoni and the dragon are still in sculpts, but Bobby Jackson finished the Valeros green at Gen Con, and Reaper had it on proud display in their booth. I couldn't resist stopping by several times during the convention to fawn over it, and I heard many oohs and ahs. It's one of the most three-dimensionally interesting sculpts I've seen in a long time, and it really had me itching to paint it.

Reaper Ron sat down with me and Lisa this afternoon to chart out the next several months of releases, and some of what's coming will absolutely blow your mind.

Everyone from the Paizo editorial staff and management to the Reaper folks and their freelance sculptors to our artists like Wayne Reynolds are just giddy with excitement at what is going to soon be coming down the pike!

This news has definitely had me giddy from the start and only gets more exciting as news trickles in.

With the news for the cover art I too want to make a diorama.

Can't wait for the schedule.

What is meant was that I have held off buying any of the Crocodile iconics out of fear that they would be discontinued before the entire set of 12 was released. That I would be stuck with maybe 7 iconics of a specific style (the Crocodile style, if you will).

Are you saying that Crocodile will still finish all 12 iconics?

I will certainly buy the Reaper iconics, as I am certain that Reaper can produce the whole set in a timely manner. I am also certain that the minis will have the Reaper style, which is different from the Crocodile style, and that any Crocodile minis will stand out sharply next to any Reaper minis.

Was I right to not buy any Crocodile iconics until all 12 were released?

From the Gencon photos it looks like Lisa had the Amiri miniature from Crocodile Games. And if I'm not mistakend they even have a few of the same sculptors working for them as does Reaper.

But I doubt that Crocodile Games would go back on what I would think was a contract for these miniatures, that and I don't think Paizo would tell us they were coming soon if they got cancelled.

EDIT: I would like to ask though how much longer we get to wait before we get more teasers?
