Glad to hear you're going to give the rules a shot, and I hope it works out for you. I love what Paizo has done with the rules, and the only thing really holding me back from purchasing the rulebook is that my players aren't very interested in gonig back to 3.5.

Same here, frankly (though I do like 4e too).

ugh... that is a game I can't stand :P

cleric there is unrecognizable to the class I love to play...

It's a different game, and not to everyone's taste. Interestingly, there is a player in my group who would play nothing but clerics - at least in previous editions. I actually got him to play the paladin in 4e, which feels much more like a 3e cleric, and he was very happy. I've often wondered about the niche for clerics vis a vis paladins in the previous editions - both armoured holy warrior types. In 4e this delineation is now quite sharp. Again, not everyone likes it, but I personally prefer the cleric as holy spellcaster and healer who also doesn't just happen to be a melee monster too (though that can be arranged too with the right spell and feat selections) and the paladin as the holy warrior (and they took the alignment restriction away from paladins too, which also pleased me).

Keep 4e discussions in the 4e boards, please.

Cleric = Knight Templar = Holy Warrior

Paladin = Charlemagne's 12 Paladins = Diffeernt Type of Holy Knight

just different kind of holy warriors... also Paladin is only Lawful Good and ALL religions with different aligment deserve their holy warriors... meaning Clerics :)

this is not about 3.x or 4E... this has been a complain for a long tiem of many people :P

i prefer to keep top the original concept

It's the Board Police! [/snerk]

Isn't the bigger issue the fact that this existential gaming crisis conversation is taking place in the Customer Service section?

Don't get me wrong, I like it, but I tend to agree with those who say it's a fundamentally different game. I find myself missing a lot of the way 3e plays (which didn't happen with regard to 2e when I started playing 3e), and the changes Paizo made in PFRPG look very cool. Or, to put it another way, I don't prefer 4e to 3e any more than I prefer 4e to Vampire. Each game has a distinct feel and suits a slightly different playstyle.

This is the most oddly compelling thread I've followed on Paizo in ages!

I guess I should thank you! (and them!)

I dunno how or why 4e got into this thread.

I don't.

Otherwise the 4e boards would look a lot different.

So I say: Please don't talk nonsense.

Actually, I think the "dealbreaker" in the title was a little uncalled for. Damage is done, I suppose.

the cleric IS a dealbreaker for ME :P (incluthing the other reasons I said it pushed it down toward that side)

maybe it was uncalled for but it was 3:00 AM I was tired and disappointed, and not the best sociable person... and while yes the idea was to cancel my pre-order it was also to express why...

isn't it preferable that your customers tell you why instead of just leave? i thought it was a good policy to understand the why... so I just tell them... I put the dealbreaker in the title instead of the Cancel Pre-Order because I intended to explain the why :P not because I expected to began a discussion here...

Damage? hardly... my idea was not to dissuade others to my line of thinking, only to experss regrets on some (many) choices for the final product, while expression that I love their other lines that form Golarion...

that this has been worked in what some believe is an interesting discussion... well is not my fault... except for the fact that i decided to answer when they said soemthing instead of stubbornly keep myself quiet waiting for Cosmo or Allison to cancel the pre-order as was the 1st thought after 2 hour of analysis... well 1... the other was looking on my mail for where the #order was...

Actually, it is your thread, you can call it what you like.

But it seems plain to me that with the customer service forums at the top of all registered users pages, it was that title that made this thread a battleground.

Not a problem, I think you are entitled to your opinion, especially if it's feedback to Paizo.

It did seem to tip off a lot of similar threads though. Can't blame you for the zeitgeist.

And I fanned the fires a bit myself. ;)

And for as long as you've had these deep feelings for pie, never before today has it felt strong enough or brave enough.. to admit this..

Pie cares for you too. So very much.
